It's like being in your own private National Park. Experience Joshua Tree desert first hand without neighbors. You're surrounded by thousands of acres of wilderness. Hop on large boulders, explore miles of trails, observe active desert wildlife. IF YOU WANT DESERT ADVENTURE... THIS IS IT!!! It's an amazing, exclusive one of a kind property. Glamp away.

The home is 100% solar powered, off the grid and with tasty well water. Discover movie props, Rock City and Coyote Hole.

It's only 2 miles from the town of Joshua Tree and 3 miles from the Western entrance to the National Park.

The house is comfortable and has everything you need. The WIFI is good and there's great cell service. Enjoy the wood burning hot tub, fire pit, and wood burning stove. Browse the eclectic library in the media den. The house is styled Mid Century Kitch.

Great for families, romantic getaways, friends' reunions, holidays, artists, rock scramblers, hikers, and those who want to get away from it all. It's very special for those who have a deep spiritual connection to nature.

Why Matthew Patrick chose Joshua Tree

When I took a trip out to Joshua Tree Monument (now called Joshua Tree National Park), I fell in love with its, unusual beauty. It wasn't far from Los Angeles, and yet it felt like another world. I wanted to have land as much like the Park as I could. So I purchased a 2.5 acre piece in 1992. I camped on it often. My favorite thing was (and still is) to sleep outside under the stars.

As time went on, I bought the parcels around me. Personally the size and scope of it still blows me away. To walk the perimeter can take a day.

Strangely, or not so strangely, people tell me they become connected to the rocks in a primitive way. It helps them put life in perspective and is good for body and soul. I feel that way too. JTP has been a great retreat for myself and friends. Now, in 2012 I open it to you.

Every picture was taken on the property... guaranteed. You will take amazing photos too.

What makes this house unique

Joshua Tree is a spiritual center and High Desert Vacation Mecca. Joshua Tree Paradise is on a priceless 100 acre piece of property that is adjacent to the park.

There are many enjoyable and at times odd adventures to be had. Listen to live music at Pappy and Harriets. Go antiquing, and to the swap meet, where amazing stuff turns up.

If you're a rock climber, you already know Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most famous and amazing places to climb in the world.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much Matthew. Your beautiful slice of paradise is also my favorite place which is why I keep coming back so long as you'll have me. I'm no artist, just a stress filled guy who needs his "me" time. JTP is the perfect place. I find it calming and spiritual and it literally transforms me if only for a few days. I have checked out your other websites and the blogs and so on. Very fascinating! Those funny videos were great. What an amazing talent you have. Great work! And not to mention academy nominated for your short film.... PRICELESS!

Thanks so much for everything Matthew... I greatly appreciate you being so kind.

Unique, remote and extremely relaxing break!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay immensely, especially the perfectly peaceful and private location, that is still very convenient for the park itself. There is plenty to wander around and explore on the property alone, and the house itself is a delightfully cozy little getaway with all the luxuries you could need for an awesome escape into the desert. Thank you very much for letting us stay in your wonderful home.

Relax at Home Amongst a Wonderland of Rocks

  • 5 of 5

A month after staying at Joshua Tree Paradise, the wonderful memories endure.

This was a very comfortable, peaceful retreat that provided a great escape inside and outside the home; it lives up to the descriptions that you read online and delightfully exceeds expectations. The trails outside of the home provided a unique landscape to explore, and our three boys (age 9-14) loved scampering up this playground of boulders. It was amazing seeing them pick out paths climbing hundreds of feet above us determined to get to the pinnacles amongst the giant jumbles of rocks. At night, we hung out and roasted s'mores around the fire pit as the boys explored within earshot, laid on the plentiful beds outside (easily furnished with cushions from inside the home) and gazed into the Milky Way. It was just as nice to be able to have family meals in the home (with a guest-friendly kitchen), played games in the evening (from the bountiful selection), and got as good a night's rest as we have had on vacation. The relaxed but very tasteful style of the home made it easy to settle in for all of us. Although getting to Paradise may feel off the grid, we really had all the amenities we needed in this solar-powered home (including good WiFi).

The warm, dry climate was certainly a perfect escape from the Pacific Northwest. The relatively short drive to the entrance of Joshua Tree National Park is a bonus. Having been to many great parks and places in and beyond the United States, Joshua Tree was nonetheless very distinctive and surprising and beautiful - truly unlike anywhere we have been before. We were able to select several good destinations in the park, especially during the beautiful light of the late afternoon as the sun made its way to the horizon. Watching the climbers with their gear was thrilling and fun as well. We could have stayed much longer, and we would easily consider staying at our base camp/home again if we returned to visit Joshua Tree.

The owner, Matthew, provided a perfect balance of virtual hospitality with the right amount of outstanding communication, information and reasonable instructions to provide confidence well before our arrival while also allowing freedom to explore and be very comfortable as guests. This experience will likely remain our standard for what VRBO and a good owner can do to facilitate the joy of travel.

Magical Ranch

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely magical stay! The boulders and natural desert landscape are incredible and should be experienced by everyone. We spent most of our time outside hiking and exploring, eating meals outside and lots of time under the stars. The home was very comfortable and included everything we needed with a great view from every window!

Now I understand why people book this property multiple times. Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous ranch with us!!

This is a unique natural opportunity to enjoy Joshua Tree and the desert.

Joshua Tree Paradise is an isolated, simple but complete house just outside of Joshua Tree NP. It is "off the grid" using solar power and well water (has internet access but not cable or landline). The setting is the dramatic rocks and boulders of the park area, and the house is clean, has basic amenities, and is very quiet. The appliances are adequate but not fancy, the beds comfortable, and the equipment and dishes include the necessities. (There is a new celestron telescope we didnt try.) Access is via a sandy off road trail but easily driven by a regular car with some care. There is enough privacy for two couples but they have to be very comfortable with each other. TV for DVD is provided, but stargazing and quiet meditation are highly recommended. The location is convenient to both the NTL park and the town of Joshua Tree. The setting is magical. We loved staying here.

Great place to stay

Awesome place with an interesting history and very close to park entrance. Definitely recommend this place. Road getting to the house is a little rough but it just adds to the appeal in my opinion.
