Lodge, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
I grew up in the country yet worked in the city and was looking for a place that offered me the feeling of being out and away from the hustle and bustle. I also wanted some of the things that I had whike living in the country-chickens, horses and dogs. This place is good for all.
Sue purchased this Lodge in 1982

Great location and beautiful property
We stayed for a month and took our labradoodle with us. It was a perfect location to visit the Bay Area with a dog. The large property was fenced, and less than a mile from the Joaquin Miller Park, where I could walk her off lead for miles. There are great views from the lot, and a well maintained large, heated pool and hot tub- not bad! Sue and Randy were wonderful hosts.
A beautiful oasis: Absolutely marvelous spot to unwind
After a devastating house fire in March 2012 we were lucky enough to find a haven in Randy and Sue’s magnificent homestead. The house is a wonderful spacious mixture of Architectural Digest meets the Ponderosa, fully furnished and outfitted with everything you’d need and the magnificent grounds and pool and patio make this a very special place to unwind. We spent over a year here while our house was rebuilt savoring the quiet, visits from deer and wild turkeys, and zoning out on the unbelievable view. It’s hard to believe that you are in Oakland, just minutes away from great restaurants, movies, theatre and all that the Bay Area has to offer. Randy and Sue, two of the friendliest people on earth, go out of their way to make you comfortable and at home! This is a unique and wonderful place! You won't regret your stay here and like us I'll bet you wish you could come back! And don't forget that your dog will love it too!
Our family stayed at the Oakland house for 5 weeks at the end of summer. The surroundings are spectacular, the house is comfortable and roomy with a quiet sophistication. The bonus of having a pool and outdoor fireplace put our stay over the top. We felt like we were out in the country down our private drive with huge old growth trees all around us and a view out the dining room windows of rolling hills with not another house in sight. All this and a Safeway just 5 minutes away as well as the extremely charming village of Montclair less than a ten minute drive away. We discovered all sorts of wonderful restaurants in neighboring areas and there were plenty of grocery stores, bakeries and vegetable markets to stock our kitchen. The other tenants on the property were super friendly and everyone was respectful of others privacy. So nice to have someone to borrow sugar from when I was baking a lemon pie with the fruit off of the bountiful trees outside. We even received a plate full of chocolate covered strawberries from our neighbors daughter.
My only complaint about our stay would be there were lapses in communication with our email correspondence and many questions went unanswered. Other than that, it was idyllic. It is certainly heads and tails above other properties you could rent for the same price in the area.
Heaven on earth!
OMG! I could not believe it when I arrived. Pictures do not do it justice! It is ncredible! Quiet "Zen" like feel throughout, views from every window. If you are looking for a tranquil setting with incredible views this is it. Wildlife abounds. Pool and hot tub have night lights that light up the oak trees and there is a pool house with stero for music . There is a waterfall which provides that provides "white" noise as you relax in the hot tub.
I have stayed at upscale resorts that were not as nice as this place-can't wait to come back!
Heavenly Escape in Oakland
Heavenly classic home and location, down a quiet lane and away from all road noise.. We spent a week here while I was recuperating from surgery. Unforgettable the way the sunlight filled the rooms, the gorgeous views, the furnishings and the design itself were outstanding. Flower-filled gardens and huge trees with old wisteria draped across the front of the house and loaded with blooms. Tiled floors, beautifully decorated with many travel mementos, potted blooming orchids, huge living room and dining room. Cozy den (could be third bedroom) with book-laden shelves, recliners and love seat, satellite TV. Superbly comfortable beds, beautiful spacious luxurious bathrooms, fully furnished with all the cooking utensils you could imagine. Pictures on VRBO don't do it justice. .The home looked out over hundreds of acres of open space with Mount Diablo looming in the distance. Saw deer, birds, squirrels and a backyard with redwood trees. All this about 12 minutes from downtown Oakland. and maybe 20-30 minutes from the frenzy of San Francisco. Would love to be here in the summer when the pool and jacuzzi would be very inviting. (Just writing this makes me want to go back!!!)
I am glad to see that people feel the same way about the property as I do. It brings peace to the soul-it is a VERY special place!!!
