About Richard and Katie Troyer

Richard has been a log home builder for 27 years. Richard and Katie have both seen their partners go through cancer and pass away. Then God so graciously brought us together in 2005. Richard had 11 children and Katie had 9 which gives us the grand total of 20. One passed on in 2000 so we cherish the others though most of them are now married and do not live at home. 48 grandchildren.

We enjoy all the natural beauty around us. We greatly appreciate what ' Our loving Father in Heaven' has created for our enjoyment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Mr.Troyer & Family; Just want to say thank You for a wonderful stay at your "Waters Edge" Cabin; We loved all the exquisite decor of each room. We had an invigorating walk around the lake, but the highlight of the trip was the zip line experience. Your cabin is so inviting and it allowed plenty of room for 3 generation to interact.

Thank You again for a very enjoyable weekend. Mr. & Mrs Buck our Kids & GrandKids Too!

A Five star Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

From Reservation to vacations last day Richard and Katie were the perfect Hosts. Our annual family vacation could not have been better.

Our brood of 15 found the accommodations beyond our expectations, amenities made our lives easier. The surrounding environment peaceful and would you believe N Michigan and no mosquitoes (not guaranteed). All was a safe wonderful respite from our daily lives. Thank You again for providing this wonderful place for a peaceful place where one can reconnect with nature. Roland Leveque

Owner's Response: Thank you for joining us Roland/ It was good to have you here and enjoying the nature and family time together. How wonderful to have family. Yes, you are right, this year we have been blessed with less mosquitoes which we are very thankful for . We also put an airconditioner in since there were a few weeks of much warmer temperatures. However, those days are already past. Usually we do not need an airconditioner. Log homes do well in that, and a fan is often all I use. May you have many more happy years together as a family and extended family.

Our Family Paradise

  • 5 of 5

As our week began July 15th, we gathered our troops of 7 active grandchildren and 5 adults and shared a week on the grounds of Richard and Katie in their beautiful log home. Our daughter took to the loft with her 4 active children where we took the main bedroom and had all the amenities one would ask and our son and 3 children headed to the bunkhouse and downstairs area where our fun all began. It was a week filled with everlasting joy as we shared days swimming, boating, fishing and using the fire ring provided for our nightly treats of chocolate. We used the zip line and swing provided to add pleasure to our daily fun and explored the grounds around the cabin as we took hikes, played baseball, watched turtles and played in the sand. The pleasures were endless as the privacy of our private lake provided the beautiful sunrises as those beautiful sunsets. We awoke each morning to the coffee being brewed and the feet coming down the stairs from that upper loft. It was a week full of joy and memories and a place we would sincerely consider coming back. We thank both Richard and Katie for their endless hospitality and would highly recommend this private and peaceful place to share a week together.

With much regards, the Colasanti, Willis and Hubbard Families from Denver, Chicago and St. Louis.

Owner's Response: Thanks friends for having joined us at the peaceful, private, home around the lake. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and made many memories---I think you did a wonderful job as grandparents and parents to make memories that will last for a lifetime! It takes effort on your parts and energy to direct the children to play together and to teach them the beauty of outdoors. It is so much more than sitting and watching TV. You have an impact on each of the future generations by spending that time with them. Thanks again for joining us.

Fun Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful time at Water's Edge! The owners are just wonderful...very accommodating and friendly. Our 3 children, their spouses, and 2 grandsons were all able to come, and everyone had a great time. It took a day or two to get used to no internet or tv. LOL! Everyone enjoyed fishing, the 2 canoes, the paddle boat, the row boat, the slide on the drifting raft, the zip line, the swing going into the water, the 2 firepits, the volleyball, the games, and the beautiful home. It was so nice to have 4 bedrooms...plus the 'bunk room' in the basement. We had more than enough room! We paid for the rental, and our kids were in charge of the food/meals. The kitchen was perfect for all of meal preparation. We also brought our bicycles and were able to ride on the paved bike trail between Cadillac and Tustin (you have to drive a few miles to get to it, but it was a beautiful ride). One night, we went into Cadillac for a meal, which is only a 15-20 minute drive. There were a ton of restaurants to choose from. We also ventured to a small town about 7 minutes away for ice cream on our last evening at the cabin. All of our kids said they would return in a heartbeat...which we might actually do! Thank you, Richard and Katie, for your wonderful hospitality!

Owner's Response: Thanks Jill for joining us . We loved having you with us for the week . We rent out by the week in the summer months but shorter times in the winter months. I think that was a wonderful idea to have the the children each plan and get the meals going. Grandparents are special and I noticed did a good job entertaining the grandchildren. A beautiful time to connect and without a tv and doing activities together does make a lot of memories for the future. Thanks again for joining us.

Awesome family retreat

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful artistic house. a mystic private lake and a quiet and peaceful setting made for a wonderful retreat. We loved the convenience of the house, beauty of the setting and hospitality of our hosts. From the youngest kid to the oldest person, all found something to enjoy be they outdoor exploration on a canoe, the Zip line, the vegetable garden, the lumber yard or just sitting on the porch or in front of the warm fire. Thank you so much Katie and Richard for sharing your home and hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay for our family reunion.

Owner's Response: We really enjoyed having your group from India to Arizona and of course Michigan with us. Your group was very interesting and I know we all enjoy seeing the guests enjoying the various activities around here. The new addition of the swing going over part of the water has won a lot of activity also. Thanks so much for joining us and sharing some of your precious time visiting with us.

Water's Edge is a slice of heaven here on earth!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at Water's Edge for 4 nights. It was amazing. Looking at the pictures we thought it was going to be a great place to have a get away, but it was so much more. The cabin is like no other home we have seen. The workmanship is spectacular. It was so wonderful to be in such beautiful surroundings, both inside and out. The area is quiet, peaceful and lovely to explore. We were even able to do some ice fishing. We were so blessed to be able to have some time to talk with the owners, who are wonderful hosts and have hearts as big as the cabin. :) Thank you so much for building such a beautiful place to allow us to come and be reminded that there is so much to do that doesn't include TV, internet, etc. We haven't talked so much, laughed so much and smiled so much in a very long time. Water's Edge - a blessing wrapped in Tustin, MI. With love, Kim

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review Kim. We enjoyed having you with us at the home. It's wonderful to hear that you could relax and enjoy your stay and refreshed to get back into your regular duties. The home is set up by itself in nature, and we enjoy the quiet surroundings. God has been good to us and we want to share it with others.

Water's Edge.....is Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We went to the The Water's Edge just this past weekend, which was the last weekend in Jan. We went skiing for the day at Caberfae on Friday then headed to the cabin (a short drive). My boys were a little worried about no T.V. and no internet.....let's just say they didn't miss it one min! And, one day into it they were asking when we could come back! Just amazing craftsmanship in this home! Amazing! Every detail thought about! Clean, warm, and friendly place to relax. Had fun putting on our cross country skis on and enjoying the nature and quietness. The downstairs was perfect for the boys! How nice to share such a blessing with everyone. I hope that this place will be available to rent for many years to come, as I can see us wanting to make this a regular tradition! Thank you so much for everything!

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having you with us at the Water's Edge Home. I have heard many say the same thing about the TV. One who was a TV aholic, as he said, testified that while he was here , he never missed it but spent his time taking pictures - geese coming off the lake etc. I hope this is an opportunity for everyone that is together to make some very fond memories and bonding together. Hope to see you again. Thanks again for being with us.
