Hollywood, FL – The Hollywood Beach Broadwalk is Florida’s best seaside boardwalk, according to USA Today.

The nationally distributed daily released the results today of a Thanksgiving week poll asking readers to choose between the east coast’s Hollywood Beach Broadwalk and the west coast’s Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach as the seaside promenade that best captures the quintessential Florida beach experience.

“Dr. Beach,” a.k.a. Stephen Leatherman, professor and director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University, Miami, assisted USA Today’s editors in selecting the contenders. The rest was up to the voters.

“Hollywood Beach’s joggers, strollers and bicyclists can take a victory lap today,” said Jorge Camejo, Executive Director of the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency. “This validates what the locals already know – Hollywood’s Broadwalk offers the best beach experience in the Sunshine State and is a unique American treasure whose renown is steadily growing around the world.”

This national recognition comes on the heels of another high-profile honor for the historic boardwalk built by city founder Joseph Young in the 1920s and renovated in 2008. In October, the 2.5-mile Broadwalk was designated by the American Planning Association (APA) as one of the Top 10 Public Spaces In America for 2013, putting it in the company of such iconic public spaces as New York’s Grand Central Terminal and L.A.’s Grand Park.

The pictures are older. Room looked wien but was clean

  • 2 of 5

Great location. Close to boardwalk and beach but the hotel was dirty. The floors in the hallways looked like they hadn't been swept in a month. 3 items bought in the little grocery store and all 3 were old and stale

Hollywood Condo

  • 4 of 5

This unit is nicely appointed and newly remodeled. Everything is decent quality and new. It's a tad small but it worked fine for me. I was there for almost two weeks. The location is great, right on the broadwalk (that's what they call it), right on the beach, and the pool looks nice. The only negative directly attributable to the unit itself is the TV reception stinks, using an HD antenna.

The hotel itself is undergoing a transition from hotel to condo building, and the transition is proceeding at a snail's pace. The hotel was built in 1926 and I think they still have the original carpet in the halls. At some point there was a full scale mall on the bottom two floors, long since abandoned. There are some new businesses located there, but most of it remains looking like they just walked away. The lobby, mall and halls are very dingy. If they put in some decent lighting, dress up the boarded up closed businesses, and painted everything, you wouldn't feel like you were in a depressed building. The building IS clean and safe, just dingy as hell. Overall, you can't beat the location. I would go back.

Hollywood Beach is a Great Location***

  • 4 of 5

Hotel is dated, built in the 1920s, and you could picture it in it's heyday. It could use a facelift or so, but it's on Hollywood Beach, right out the back door, and you're on the boardwalk. Great location, lots of food choices, and the beach is terrific. Bus 4 takes you up to Young's Circle for the supermarket and Walgreen's and....Starbucks. :)

BUILDING UNDER FIRE WATCH SINCE JUNE 2016

  • 1 of 5

WARNING

BUILDING UNDER FIRE WATCH

Notice to all occupants: Per order of the Fire Marshall, as defined in NFPA1 and NFPA 101 (AHJ), this building is under MANDATORY 24 HOUR FIRE WATCH because one or more of the required safety features are not operational.

THIS NOTICE SHALL NOT BE REMOVED EXCEPT BY ORDER OF THE FIRE MARSHALL

Violations:

NFPA 1, Ch. 10.1

NFPA 1, Ch 10.4

NFPA 1, Ch 10.1

NFPA 101, Ch 9.6.2.6

DATE: JUNE 23, 2016

June folks – JUNE....it was December and Kristen did not even bother to notify me or give me any indication that the building was a fire waiting to happen! That is totally unacceptable to me – I have two children and there was no way I was going to sleep in a building under fire watch because it's fire system was non-operational. We wound up going to where my parents had booked their stay in Hallendale Beach instead of risking our lives here.

That was just the beginning - between the mold/mildew smell and the building be run-down beyond anything one could imagine, even when you consider its age - I simply don't have enough characters allowed to detail out everything that was just disgusting with the building. The unit was okay, though the bed was horribly uncomfortable with flat pillows and linens that have seen better days. We didn't stay, but did stop by a few times to check things out and noted the water was turned off, for the full day, three times that we knew of. If you are considering this, OR ANY UNIT in this building, think again, find something else.

Not only did Kristen not notify me of the fire watch and risk of fire the building posed - we 'checked out' on January 1 and still have not received our deposit back, nor has Kristen offered a refund for the stay that we didn't stay.

Good bang for your buck

  • 4 of 5

Room was nice, clean, decorated good. Everything in working order. No complaints. The actual hotel itself is older, hotel pool older (hence 4 stars). Nice beach. The room provided w/ beach chairs & umbrella & cooler, which was nice.

Thank you for an enjoyable stay

Great hotel, nice owner who cares

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location and hotel. this room was very comfortable. owner really takes care of her rooms there. that is condominium building, not really a hotel, therefor every room is owned by different owner, so they all different. dont get confused by mixed reviews. in my opinion this location is the best in the USA, right on boradwalk without cars and big crowds of teenagers like in Miami. we will be back for sure. thank you Kristina.
