Sorbonne Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Bedrooms 2, Bathrooms 2, Sleeps 6

This is a beautiful, dramatic apartment in the Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement) on the Left Bank of Paris. It is located high above the Boulevard Saint Germain by Rue Saint Jacques and is just a short stoll from the Notre Dame Cathedral. It is opposite the Cluny museum of the middle ages and near to the famous Sorbonne University. This area abounds with shops, restaurants, and Cafes. The Place Saint Michel, the Sorbonne, the Left Bank of the Seine, the Ile Saint Louis, the Ile de la Cite, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Saint Germain des Pres district are all within an easy stroll. The Cluny-La Sorbonne metro is just next to the building and the RER C line to Charles de Gaulle airport is a block away.

Located on the 7th floor (with elevator) of a beautiful building right at the corner of the Blvd. St. Germain and the rue St. Jacques, this apartment has two portable A/C units that can be used in the bedrooms or moved around as needed. It is high above the street activity, has triple light exposure and views over Paris. It is fully renovated with unusually striking design and has an interesting collection of large framed efin de sieclei French art pieces on the walls. The large living room and dining area have beautiful hardwood floors and wonderful light, getting the sun for most of the day. The double-glazed windows minimize the city sounds. The living room has a modern comfortable Queen size sofa bed, two easy chairs, a small writing desk with chair, and coffee table. The dining area is furnished with a wood dining table with chairs. There is also cable TV, Stereo hi-fi, DVD player, DSL Internet access with Wi-Fi, and full domestic equipment (hair dryer, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board, etc.).

The modern designer kitchen is all new and is fully tiled with refrigerator, combination oven/microwave/grill, four gas burners, sink, dishwasher, clothes washer/dryer, and plenty of cupboard space.

The main bedroom has a Queen size bed, built in bookshelves, an en suite shower, and a separate toilet w/basin. This bedroom also has a portable air conditioning unit that can help cool the apartment during the hotter months.

The second bedroom has a split king size bed that can be separated to make two single beds. This bedroom also has a second portable air conditioning unit that can help cool the apartment. There is also an extra single folding futon mattress in this apartment.

There is an additional separate fully tiled bathroom with a tub w/shower, basin, and toilet.

Note: over 10,000 euros have been spent recently to repair and upgrade the hot water and plumbing systems in this apartment.

Great location for keeping high school girls charmed by Paris

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was completely as advertised on the website. Two grandparents with two high school senior girls had hairdryers, WiFi, completely furnished kitchen, and great views out of the sixth story windows. This is the perfect location for walking to many historic sites and shopping. Couldn't ask for a better location with the Metro just outside our door. Loved the wonderful coffee/pastry shops just steps away for the many coffee breaks we enjoyed on the sidewalks. Constant activities around this area appealed to our senior girls.

Communication with the owner to make plans for rental, as well as airport pickup and return by chauffeur, was so easy. The perfectly timed meeting by the site manager at ourdoor to welcome us with keys and informative walk through of the apartment couldn't have been better! The only complaint from this grandmother was the stained rug in the bedroom. Otherwise, this was the perfect home-away!

family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here five nights and were quite happy. It was not fancy but it was clean and nice to have two bathrooms. My husband and I shared the main bed which is full sized mattress....normally we have a king, but we were tired enough each night to not have the smaller bed be an issue. Two of my daughters slept on the twins, and one slept on the fold out couch. The shower was a typical european shower where its so small you can barely lift your elbows up to shampoo, but it was clean with nice hot water and good water pressure. The location was great. Less than ten minutes to Notre Dame. We walked everywhere except for the Basillica Sacre Couer when we got a taxi.

The six flights of stairs was not a problem and I am overweight and 53 years old. I felt good that I could hustle up half way before resting! We really just did it twice a day and did not spend much time in the apartment.

The washing machine/dryer combo takes several hours and is for very small loads only.

Would recommend staying here for a clean, no-frills experience.

5 for 5 nights in the Latin Quarter

  • 4 of 5

First and foremost I will say that all the people involved with this property, the managers and our drivers ,were wonderful, helpful and quick to answer our questions and help with the property. The property is very well situated just a couple of blocks from a lovely outdoor market, a great Patisserie, fromager, good wine stores and many many grocers. AND of course just two blocks from Notre Dame, the Pantheon, blocks from the Luxembourg Gardens and steps from Metro and RER. All very helpful for negotiating this delightful neighborhood and City.

The building is old as you would expect in Paris and on the tip-top floor. The interior of the main building is well protected by a keyed double-door entry and the neighborhood is safe. Funky old elevator was a bit scary and can only fit 3 people quite tight or one person with luggage!! But it's a long way to the top floor so you soon get used to it! The apartment itself is lovely and well-kept though not as clean as I would have preferred. The floors throughout the unit were not well cleaned but the bathrooms were clean and the unit dusted and windows clean. The beds were comfortable enough. We were there as a family with our three daughters and in the second bedroom the managers were kind enough to set up a palette-style bed on the floor for our third daughter. However our daughter preferred to sleep on the fold-out couch which was comfortably made-up with many pillows and down comforter. There is a lot of noise from Blvd St. Germaine and from the "master" bedroom there is a school just outside the window which starts at 8:54 on the dot!!! But you are living in a city and that's city life. When the windows were closed the noise was greatly reduced.

We had one problem, we had NO hot water upon our arrival which was taken care of by the evening. The water heater leaked the entire time we were there which is something we had to deal with everyday by emptying a small pan. If we were gone all day or during the evening it would become full and be a nuisance but not enough to ruin our trip. The building water was shut off once for a few hours without notice! None of these things caused us undo stress though.

Overall we were in Paris to enjoy Paris which we did. We slept in the St. Germain and sometimes had an afternoon wine/cheese party to rehash our day before heading out again. I think the location of this unit makes it especially nice and I would recommend staying here.

Fabulous Location, Wonderful Stay

  • 4 of 5

After travelling with our three kids (8, 12, 13) for over three weeks, we would have just been happy to stay in a place for longer than one night. However, this was just over the top fabulous. The location was excellent, and we could walk to almost everything. Metro stop right in front of our door. Fabulous food to be had. Excellent shopping ladies! Paris at our fingertips. Flat was clean, modern and completely Parisian. So much so the kids opted to do the climb versus the lift every time we left and returned. Our hosts were super accommodating, and extremely hands-on and helpful. We would recommend this to anyone visiting this beautiful city...We were completely de-stressed and relaxed by the end of our stay - WIFI reception excellent!

Wonderful apartment

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay in this apartment. The apartment is beautiful, comfortable, bright, nicely decorated, and well appointed. We were a couple with our twenty-something daughter and her boyfriend. The lay-out suited our needs exactly. The bedrooms were well separated, and each couple had its own private bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen, while small, worked out well. The location was great and the building was very good. The welcome person was extremely helpful and gave us a warm reception. The reservation process was easy. I would rent it again any time.
