This Castle is one of my Personal Residents, and by far my favorite. It is the perfect place to meet with your family, or close friends. All the wood floors, cabinets, moldings, etc. were handmade and milled on sight, from wood taken from trees of this Forest!. With the four seasons the Forest is constantly ever changing its beauty. The Castle is secluded and private. It is my Place for peace and tranquility...
Wonderful place to Fish, Hike, Mushroom hunt, Rock Hunt, Star gaze, relax, BBQ out, or just be lazy. There is endless opportunities to entertain Yourself, Family, and Friends.
Thanks for letting us stay at The Castle, Mitch. It was a great place for a family reunion.
Wow, what a place. We had five families with ample kids stay at "The Castle" over a 3-day weekend. Needless to say, the place was amazing. The other reviewers aren't lying: The place really is a castle nestled away on your only little private retreat. The kids have fun playing in the yard, riding the boat with the grown-ups and fishing in the lake (which could use some extra fish!). The bonfire place was great and the house was amazing. With a bit of an eclectic taste, the owner seems to have a flair for the dramatic, but the detail to attention and amazing master bath (you'll just have to wait and see!) made the house a fun place to stay. While not cheap, we thought it was well worth the money for a get-away less than 1.5 hours away from St. Louis. Book it, you won't regret it!
It was very pretty and had a lot of "unique" artwork. The kitchen was fantastic and had some additional spices that we did not bring. We slept very well in the beds and the girls loved the "secret" room. We had a great time pampering ourselves with massages, sauna and jacuzzi tub. It was very relaxing. We would have loved to swim but the bees/hornets were guarding the beach and the girls didn't want to swim using the boat. But all in all this was a great trip to add to our collection.
They listed this property for up to 21 visitors. However there was only beds for 12, including the sofa sleeper. The rest of our guest either slept on a sofa (4) or the floor if they didn't bring other arraignments. Our group was fine with this as we are used to roughing it but this would have been helpful to know before booking. Also as we booked for more than 16 people, we found that we had to pay additional for the additional people to attend but technically they didn't get a bed and some did't get a chair at the table. It seems this could either be made a little clearer in the ad. Such as; this location has accommodations for 16 people but up to 21 can stay on the property for an additional charge.
All in all everyone of us had great time that we will cherish!!
Incredible space for friend and family get together! Very beautiful space and gracious host!
So this is our third time staying at the castle. The first two were with my wife's kids and their kids. This time was with my sisters, their kids and their kid's kids. Everything in this house is the type of thing you say, I want that in my house. Gourmet kitchen, check. Massage chair, check. Stocked lake with a boat, check. Amazing telescope which I took the most awesome picture of the moon I've ever seen, check. We seriously did everything in this house and then some. My niece led us in yoga on top of the castle. (I just love writing that sentence!) We fished, swam in the lake, took a midnight boat cruise to look at the stars. (Which are amazing by the way. You are in one of the darker areas in the Midwest and on a clear night can see the Milky Way) We ate way too much, played badmitton and Can Jam and tons of games. Made Smores around the fire, took a hike on the hiking trails, seriously there is so much to do here. Both families love this place and will be going back as long as they'll have us. Looking forward to our next amazing vacation at the castle. Bob Guehne & Nancy Brown, AKA Nabob.
If The Castle had fallen right out of heaven, it could not have landed in a more beautiful spot. In the morning the lake was like glass and birds were singing everywhere. Everything was just as it should be – fun, relaxing and a boundless adventure for our entire family ages three to 77. The boat was the big draw for young and old alike and whether riding or diving off the boat or swimming along the beach, we couldn’t keep kids out of the water. We also fed the cats and the birds and we saw deer, hawks and lots of small animals on walks all through the “40 acre woods” with Winnie the Pooh. We had a bonfire in the fire pit for roasting wieners and making S’mores and while we couldn’t get the observatory to work, the night sky had a spectacular star show by just looking up.
The Castle itself was another great experience. Given the multiple use, it was exceedingly clean. The women especially appreciated the well equipped kitchen which had every type of pan you could imagine and matching place settings of beautiful dishes and “weighted” flatware – not the Goodwill mismatch that rentals sometimes use. There was plenty of room for anyone who felt like joining us in the kitchen. The beds were super comfortable (but most of us needed a boost to get into them) and the bedding was light but always the right temperature. The game room and the piano got used regularly. On the second night we all gathered in the Lounge Room for a PowerPoint Presentation that spotlighted our own “King of the Castle” (a very surprised Grandpa) so the children and even some of the adults got to know more about him. On the last night we had a slide show made up of pictures we had taken on our Cellphone Scavenger Hunt and activities that included personalizing our Castle mugs and preparing eggs for their Humpty Dumpty Day drop off the tower. Four of the 14 actually survived!
Both Mitch and Debbie were super accommodating and helpful in every way. They asked what else they could do for us and I jokingly asked them to get rid of the rain that was predicted for every day we were there – and guess what? It didn’t rain once! That’s what I call going the extra mile. Thank you doesn’t seem enough for memories that will last a lifetime.
We had a great family gathering . The younger kids loved the beach area and taking alittle ride on the pontoon boat . They caught a couple of fish and enjoyed cooking smores at the outdoor fire area. The kitchen was great for cooking big meals and serving areas great. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans etc. The house is beautiful in every way . We plan to come back !
