Adorable Honeymoon Cottage by the Lake

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4

This vintage summer cottage is across the road from the lake bluff, and offers a quiet getaway for newlyweds or young families with one or 2 small children. The deck provides a place to grill your dinner as you sip a cool chardonnay from the nearby winery as you watch your children playing on the swingset. The small but serviceable kitchen has everything one would need, including coffeemaker and microwave, pie plate and rolling pin! The DOUBLE beds are comfortable, and linens are provided. The beach access is just a short walk away. (one quarter mile) and features a creek which will delight the little ones. Glenn is situated between South Haven and Saugatuck, making it ideal for shopping excursions, wine tasting, brewery hopping, or for renting a boat or wave-runner. Great restaurants are within 10-15 minutes in 3 directions. This is a cottage for those who want to get away from it all, but want to be within reach of all the action.

Check out our history: The Kerr family has been vacationing on Fabun Road since the early 1900's when my great grandmother, Henrietta, came from Chicago to spend summers here, playing organ for the local girl's camp. She subsequently bought the property next door to the camp. To get here every summer, she had to take a boat across the big Lake, land in South Haven, where she would get on a horse drawn hay wagon with her trunk full of her summer clothes, and once she got to the cottage, she stayed for the whole summer. Her house still stands at Fabun Road. My father spent summers here as a boy, and so did I. We didn't have a phone in the old days, or a TV, or even running water! We played Monopoly or Sorry, and card games, and built fires on the beach. When we kids would get bored, my mom would just send us out for a walk in the woods. It helped me learn how to enjoy my own company, and be creative. I think every child should spend summers on Fabun Road!

About Patricia Kerr

Longtime Glenn summer resident, I decided to live here year round. The lake is the big draw--swimming in the summer, beach wlaks in the fall and s[pring, and big ice on the big lake in the winter. I love it here!

Patricia Kerr purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Patricia Kerr chose Glenn

My folks bought this property as a place to put extra guests in the summer. As they got a little older, they wanted to downsize, but I couldn't bear the though of sellingthe property to anyone else, so I bought it!

What makes this cottage unique

This little adorable cottage is perfect for young families. It's cozy and affordable and provides a peaceful setting where kids (and parents) can get away from the constant din of electronic media. A wonderful opportunity to teach children about the joys of entertaining yourself.

Guestbook comments from the owner

So much of this place reminds me of spending summer weeks at my Grandparents farm--especially the kitchen. The frontroom was a great place to sit and read, and I enjoyed hearing the lake. My favorite thing was spending every morning at the dining room table, writing and working by the window. I'm so stress free right now!

Quaint, and perfectly located!

  • 5 of 5

What a sweet little cottage! We had a wonderful vacation...close to lots of fun things to do. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and just adorable! So enjoyed our getaway, and will probably be back! Patricia, the owner was so nice...stopped by to make sure we had what we needed.

Good customer service, I would recommend the Gingerbread Cottage to honeymooners, older couples, or young families with 1 or 2 small children.

Charming and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Gingerbread Cottage for 3 nights, and we had an excellent time! It is a good choice for honeymooners or a couples weekend. The property is right across the street from Lake Michigan, and the beach is a 5 minute walk from the cottage. Keep in mind that this particular beach is not soft sand; it is more rocky- bring water shoes if you plan to spend a lot of time there (and bug spray!). Everything was very clean and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with cookware and silverware, and there were many blankets and a heater for the one chilly night we had. The location is perfect for people wanting to experience the area- it is a 10 minute drive to South Haven (where there is a Meijer) and 15 minutes to multiple wineries and Saugatuck. There is a corner store with groceries, liquor, and souvenirs which is less than 5 minutes driving from the cottage. Patricia is lovely and accommodating, and promptly answered any questions we had. We hope to return someday! Thanks so much!

Small, but pretty, quiet and convenient

  • 4 of 5

This is the perfect cottage for a couple on a quick getaway, possibly with a small child, as it just consists of a comfortable living room with a small bedroom and kitchen off the living room (bathroom with a stall shower is off the kitchen). The cottage is very comfortable and sits on a very nice piece of property shared by two other cottages. It is within a 1/2 mile easy walk to the small public beach down their very quiet road.

We were lucky enough to be there for the Labor Day pancake breakfast at the firehouse (which was actually very good). And don't forget to put an order in for the great ribs at the corner store in the small town of Glenn.

Saugatuck and other destinations are only a short drive away.

The owner is very nice and accommodating.

Peaceful, relaxing, perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My children and I have come two years in a row to the Gingerbread Cottage. They love it and so do I! The cottage is clean and simple with everything you would need. The location is outstanding. The beach and spectacular sunsets are a five minute walk away, or just a 30 second drive. The setting is incredibly peaceful. Morning coffee on the deck listening to the waves is a great way to start the day. Patricia is (the owner) to be friendly and very helpful, just like the other people in Glenn that we met. This cottage is a perfect getaway, but also a great place for kids to make memories and enjoy a slower pace! We plan to return!

Glenn Beach

The Gingerbread Cottage is located in Glenn, Michigan--The Pancake Town! Glenn is situated on Lake Michigan between Saugatuck, to the north, and South Haven to the south. Glenn offers a well stocked convenience store--they also make a mean pizza--a nice restaurant, and an adorable old-time hardware store. This charming 'honeymoon' cottage has a deck to enjoy as you sip wine from the local vineyard. The cottage sits back from a quiet country road that parallels beautiful Lake Michigan. Take a short walk to the corner, and then down a grassy slope to find a lovely sandy beach. The area is full of opportunities for antiquing, boat rides, fine dining, window shopping, quaint country roads, and farmers markets that feature all the fresh local produce. Within a 10 minute drive, you can also enjoy pie and ice cream at Earl's, or Crane's Orchards, or the Dutch Farm Market, which features the best homemade doughnut I've ever tasted.

Other Activities: Berry picking, fresh water swimming, boating, fishing, star-gazing, winery tours, farmer's markets, quiet walks along the beach, antique shopping, flea markets, sunsets to die for!

Golf: There are at least 3 golf courses nearby: Hawkshead, which has a great resturant as well--10 minute drive. To the north, a 15 minute drive will get you to the golf course in Saugatuck, and going south about 15 minutes will take you to the South Haven public golf course.
