Seasmoke Cottage is the private guest cottage on a 4 acre oceanfront property which also includes the owners' year-round residence. The cottage is located at the narrowest point of the Newbury Neck Peninsula in Surry, Maine. A short walk down a woodland path leads to a shoreline seating area to enjoy sunset views of Morgan Bay, explore tidal pools, and watch seals, osprey, and eagles vie for their fish dinners. A short walk in the opposite direction leads to the Carrying Place Beach, a "warm" water (Maine standards!) swimming beach, or to Perry's Lobster Shack, an area landmark frequented by locals, tourists, and boaters. Newbury Neck Peninsula is ideal for sailing, kayaking, biking, hiking, and long walks with views of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. The "Neck" is situated at the center of some of most scenic places in Maine including Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, the Blue Hill Peninsula, and Downeast Maine. And despite its coastal tranquility, it's only 20 minutes away from shops and restaurants.
Seasmoke Cottage is a comfortable and centrally-located place to head home after long days exploring this part of Maine. Nestled in a wooded setting midway between Morgan and Union River Bays, it faces a clay tennis court used exclusively by the guests. The cottage has its own parking, and guests approach the cottage via a private lighted path.
Its spacious deck, with table, umbrella, dining and lounge chairs, is a sunny place for dining, relaxing, or watching your family play tennis.
The cottage is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and fully equipped. The living room is comfortably furnished and includes a gas fireplace, especially nice on cool fall evenings. The bookshelves are filled with a broad selection of summer reading, games, and puzzles, including children's toys and books. The satellite TV includes HBO.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed dressed in crisp sheets and elegant bedding. Upstairs, two semi-private "rooms", separated by an enclosed stairwell, feature a queen bed on one side and two twins on the other.
The single bathroom downstairs features a tiled walk-in shower and on-demand hot water.
The kitchen is fully equipped for any meal you might want to make. It has a new Atlantic black granite countertops (2016), ceramic cooktop electric range with self-cleaning oven, a refrigerator with ice-maker, microwave, Keurig coffeemaker, Bosch dishwasher (2016), and plenty of pots and pans, bakeware, cutlery, and dishes and glassware.
There is a washer and dryer, but in case you don't want to spend your time doing laundry, there are plenty of extra sheets and towels, including beach towels.
Paper products, laundry and dishwashing detergents, and staple food items like flour, sugar, spices, vinegars, and oils are provided. There is even charcoal for the grill. If needed, there is a pack-n-play crib with sheets, a high chair, and a baby gate for the stairs.
Seasmoke Cottage is thoughtfully equipped and well-prepared to make your time here easy and enjoyable.
We loved Seasmoke Cottage! It is located in a beautiful area of Maine and not too far from Bar Harbor. The cottage is in a perfectly quiet wooded setting and very private even though it is located on the owner's property. A short walk through a charming path through the woods led us to the shore where there are beautiful views of the bay and gorgeous sunsets, and the stars in the sky at night are amazing! It is beautifully decorated with a lot of care, and very warm and cozy. I am not the type of person to stay home and relax on vacation when I could be out sightseeing in the area, but I thoroughly enjoyed being stuck in the cottage on one severely rainy day, reading, relaxing, doing a jigsaw puzzle, and even baked some chocolate chip cookies. MaryAnne and Mark were always available if any problem arose and immediately attended to the problem at hand. If we ever come back to that area I would definitely stay there again.
Seasmoke was the perfect cottage for our Maine family vacation. It was perfectly clean and had everything needed to cook family meals. The very short walk to watch the tide come in was so nice! Mary Anne and Mark were wonderful and did everything to make us feel at home. Thank you and looking forward to coming back next year!
My family and , as well as my Mother thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Smoke Cottage. Such a perfect place to stay and experience Maine. The cottage is centrally located to cute towns and Acadia National Park
The owners thought of everything to make our stay that much more enjoyable for us. My girls loved the upstairs and all the games and play things they had for the kids. The little path to the bay was so serene and the chairs they provided let us enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful view. We got to see porpoise and seals during a beautiful Maine sunset - it was perfect! I am missing Maine and Sea Smoke Cottage so much! Can't wait to come back someday!
This is a wonderful holiday home. You should stay here. They way the house is organised, equipped and prepared for your stay is really great. The tennis court is top class. The location is very private and quiet and, above all, beautiful. You feel you are in real Maine. You will only wish you booked for longer. OK, the wifi was, as we say in England, "pants", but the very pleasant hosts will have sorted that small, final detail by now, I am sure. Very much in the category of "Memories for life"! Do it now or miss the chance.
Our family loved waking up every morning and walking to the ocean to watch the seals, dolphins and other ocean life. The walk through the woods was stunning and we loved watching the sunsets from the chairs at the end of the path. We enjoyed the tennis court, it was an unexpected plus to our vacation. There is a nearby beach we would visit daily and an authentic lobster shack right next to the beach that everyone loved. Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain were a little more than a 1/2 hour drive but well worth going to. We went almost every day. Would recommend the whale watch and walk to Bar Island. Only wish we could have stayed longer....
