I have lived in the Brainerd area for 47 years. I can offer you several ideas of nice places to eat and exciting things to do in the Brainerd Lakes area.
I pride myself on assisting my guests on planning a memorable stay at my lake home. I know a lot about Brainerd Lakes area and I am happy to make suggestions about fun and exciting things to do. Anywhere from having a float plane pick you up at the end of the dock for a bird eye view of the lakes. Or assisting you with a professional fishing guide or helping line up a fishing boat, speed boat or jet ski. If your a biker there are amazing bike trails near by. If you just want to go for a nature walk the Pillsbury State Forest is only a few blocks away. There is also a horseback riding stable within 5 minutes. And for the kids, the pig races are a hoot to see at The Bears Den in Leader, MN.
The comment that I most often get from my guests are that the pictures do not do the home justice and that they appreciate all the extras that are included in the home to make their stay more enjoyable.
Speaking for our group of 5 semi-professional golfers...we so enjoyed our stay at this beautiful resort sporting lodge. While reminiscing each evening about our various Eagles and Birdies. We also reveled in watching your eagles and birdies at the lake house!
We look forward to staying here again as a respite from the oppressive heat of Houston and the oppression of our lovely wives.
All the best from the golf pros from Texas!
The house was great - nice and big. We were a group of 12 women in our 30's, meeting for a reunion over Labor Day. Everybody has moved across the country by now, so we decided to meet for a weekend up north. There was plenty of room in the kitchen area for everybody to hang out and socialize while we made food together. The place is also pretty close to lots to do - within 20 minutes of a variety of choices (breweries, riding stable, town). It was a cooler weekend, so we didn't all go swimming, but note that it's weedy close to the dock (just as you'd expect though, most MN lakes have conservation ordinances preventing people from making beaches). It was nice though - the water was refreshing. Plus, we didn't run out of hot water even though we had that many women!
I suppose the one knock I've got about it is the rental process. Sherry is very sweet, and helpful with lots of ideas to do around town or on the lake, but there were clearly some trust issues there. She just kept asking what we were going to be doing the whole time, and insisted on coming by to check us in even after I told her once we got there that it was a straightforward place, it looked great, no questions. She ended up coming to the house on Saturday afternoon (well into our stay) and the check in process was her showing me the stuff that's already clearly written on the contract, check-in document, and notes around the house. It came across as nosy, and it was a disruption to our vacation, so I'm sour about that. I assume she just wants to make sure people are having fun, but she inserted herself too strongly into our private time. She asked why we were getting together, what we were celebrating, what we were planning on doing.. a bunch of times. I assume she wasn't satisfied by my answers. She kept asking, which is where that snoopy feeling came from. It was like she wanted every detail, like she was trying to approve our plans or something strange.
To end on a good note though, we all had a great time. We stuck around the house for the most part, made our own food, and really got a chance to relax and have fun by the lake. The open format of the kitchen/dining/living area was really nice. One night we went over to Zorbaz, which is the perfect raucous townie bar/restaurant you could ask for. Food, lots of space, impressive selection of local and MN beer on tap. Overall we enjoyed ourselves on our stay!
We stayed several days at this lovely home. Wish we could have stayed longer. Just five of us (family) so we had lots of space. Sherry was very accommodating. Would love to come back again. Thanks! NR
Our group of 8 stayed at Sherry's beautiful lake home for four nights. The home is beautifully decorated and was furnished with everything we needed. The fire pit was one of our favorite places. We also enjoyed swimming off the dock. Sherry's suggestions for places to go for dinner and food to try were spot on. The home is in close proximity to many restaurants, bars, and breweries. Sherry is wonderful and easy to get a hold of. We will definitely go back!
We had a fantastic trip staying at this spacious cabin on Gull Lake. The cabin was great for our family with kids, and two additional couples who came to enjoy it for the weekend with us. The view from the deck was amazing. We liked the location and proximity to restaurants on the lake. Sherry was extremely helpful and always available for questions. It was also really nice that tp, Kleenex, paper towels and soaps were provided and there was plenty to get us through the week! At other properties we often have to provide our own or so little is provided we end up doing a shopping trip right away. They even thought to provide extra sets of keys, something we've never seen in another vrbo cabin!
I would have given 5 stars but felt the property by the fire-pit and lakeshore where a little neglected, but I was the only one who seemed to care!
There were 8 of us that stayed here in June. Sherry was very helpful and helped us with all our needs. The house was stunning and there is a lot of room. The fishing was good and we enjoyed ourselves.
I stayed here with a group of 6 other women in early June of 2015. Sherry was very helpful and accomodating of our needs. The property is spectacular and in a beautiful and quiet location. We couldn't have been happier with the house or location. We enjoyed our morning coffee down by the lake, eating and relaxing out on the deck overlooking the lake, and taking in all the area has to offer. Sherry had great suggestions for restaurants that didn't disappoint. It was the perfect getaway spot for some teachers needing a little R and R after a busy school year!
