Yes, it's a retro1970-built, ranch-style house BUT with lots of updates, windows, the sunlight always lighting and warming this southwesternly-exposed home (passive solar) in the winter. Such a comfortable, easy home to be in. Walls are opened up to show off the view, no small rooms, new furniture, new fixtures and kitchen appliances, tiled walk-in shower. A tear-drop shaped rock-stamped patio added near the full-house-length deck, makes outside living at Cloud 9 in the mountains an energy experience you won't forget.
What can families do outside on Cloud 9 Farm?
HOT TUB with a view on the deck! Hike the trails to our highest peak: “Buzzard’s Roost”, feed the chickens and cows, enjoy a picnic at Peterson Pond, swim or paddle boat, and watch for birds, wild turkeys and deer, pick in the garden or munch on blueberries in the summer. And, if you want, help with farm chores, too. It's like going back in time to a simpler way of life. No traffic noise, no street lights, no power lines, no neighbors. Quiet.
Wi-Fi, Large Screen TV with DISH network, puzzles and games (board and video), professional size air hockey table, enjoy the views out every room, one step in. Great light for reading your tablet. Plus a library full of books from gardening to wellness. Air conditioned.
By staying on Cloud 9 Farm you are supporting the conservation stewardship of the land and animals. Tours of our 'best management practices' available. On-site farm products for sale in season: chicken, beef, honey from our pollinator hives on the farm, blueberries, raspberries and vegetables in season, natural skin care products, too. Hair Salon opportunity in proprietor’s home on the property.

Janet here, your hostess, and conservation farmer owner/manager (with lots of help) of one little valley of Fairview, North Carolina. Our sing-along slogan is 'Beds, Berries, Trees, Beef and Honey Bees and don't forget the chickens' which says it all about what you can find on Cloud 9 Farm. These are my many interests and passions which I invite you to share with me as you step back in time for a visit to a simpler way of life on Cloud 9 Farm.
Janet Peterson purchased this house in 2004
I DIDN'T buy this property, it is my family home to share with you. We refurbished the mountain top, retirement Cloud 9 Relaxation Home for families up to 6 and built Heavenly Hideaway, a cozy cabin, for couples, too. Both have hot tubs on an open deck under the stars. Just 8 miles from I-40, you can be at the Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and the waterfalls of Dupont State Forest in 15 minutes. Quiet and private.
Where does the owner live? Florida? Texas? California? Are you kidding me? I live on this beautiful property, too.
Asheville is just 15 minutes away for a soiree into town...a delectable meal or a great, day-excursion, especially to the Biltmore Estate, but vacation renters find that they never really have to leave the farm because there is enough to do right here; hiking, enjoying the valley pond area, picking blueberries in July, or just sitting on the huge deck (or in the hot-tub) over-looking the mountains and relaxing. The layout of Cloud 9 is very outside-friendly with sliding glass doors in every room to open with natural light and get that fresh mountain air. Views, views, views! Come see for yourself!

Thank you for sharing your space for a wonderful weekend and family gathering to celebrate birthdays and enjoy being together! All the best.
My friends and I spent 5 nights at Cloud 9 and weren't ready to come home. Janet and Jeff are wonderful hosts, anticipating everything we might need and sharing their life on the farm overlooking the mountains. We were greeted with fresh eggs and picked blueberries for breakfast. A highlight was having coffee, dinner or a glass of wine on the back deck overlooking the property and the mountains.
Janet even played croquet and bocce ball with us on their new courts. We were also able to spend lots of time in Asheville and appreciated all of the information provided about things to do.
Such an amazing place! Thank you for placing this little bit of heaven in the perfect spot. We hiked up to Buzzard’s Roost our first morning. It was absolutely breathtaking. We traveled down to Lake Lure and took the pontoon boat tour around the lake and made the hike up Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Falls. Both were incredible. We picked the perfect day because you could see forever. On Friday, we had a mostly rainy day and tried to find indoor activities so we visited a Salt Cave in Asheville and walked around Biltmore village. We drove the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to Cherokee stopping along the way at Graveyard Fields to hike to the waterfalls. Cherokee was a cute town with a lot of Indian arts and crafts. Wish we had scheduled it around one of the shows there & more time to walk around the village. Spent a lot of down timed walking around the farm checking out the blueberry patch and taking the paddle boat out on the pond. All the little touches around here truly make it a home away from home. We spent almost an entire day at the Biltmore. Beautiful and definitely worth the trip. Our last full day we drove to Dupont State Park on Janet's recommendation to see several of the waterfalls there. A lot of walking but the waterfalls did not dissapoint. Janet surprised us by taking us to see the main house, Cloud 9...beautiful. We got to see the chickens, collect eggs hold some new babies and feed them. This has truly been a blessing to have found Cloud 9. It’s been a great way to spend a 30th Anniversary. Even though we had busy days, it was always nice to come “home” to a beautiful, quiet place we knew would be peaceful. Just leaning over the porch railing makes you feel like you are in another world. Being on "the farm" made it feel more like when I was a child growing up on a farm. Not only enjoyed the views but also enjoyed having the opportunity to talk to Janet and Jeff. They made us feel at home. We will definitely make a return trip but won't wait 30 years! Thank you Janet and Jeff for creating a wonderful place.
There were six of us ranging from 17 to 83 in age, and we all enjoyed the place. The young ones enjoyed the bicyles, hiking trail, canoe and paddleboat. It was a place like no other that we have ever been and the description does not even begin to really describe all the amenities there!! We all went to the Biltmore House for a day and then just rested and relaxed the other days there. It was just great to get away from the noises of life's "busyness" and we hope to return there again to see the beauty of another season. Janet and Jeff were great hostess/host and took care of our every need. We will especially remember the fresh eggs delivered to "our" mailbox out back. It was a wonderful get away experience for all. Thank you for sharing your home.

We recently enjoyed a week at the Heavenly Hideaway and would highly recommend it to others seeking a quiet time for two in a lovely place. The rustic appearance was perfect for the wooded setting, but the cabin had excellent amenities (including a very good TV and Wi-Fi system). Everything was provided and we only needed
to bring our food. There is an Ingles store in the nearby town of Fairview that is a good source for groceries. Janet had provided menus from the local Asheville restaurants, as well as numerous maps of the area which were extremely helpful. The cabin's closeness to all the many activities and restaurants in the Asheville area was a real plus. We were only a few miles from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, where we enjoy hiking, and also to
Asheville. There were hiking trails on the property as well as a longer trail to Buzzards Roost that is lined with Laurel and rhododendrons. It is worth pointing out that this is a working farm with cattle, chickens (who really appreciate kitchen scraps) and a very large blueberry field. We were lucky to get to spend some time with the proprietors Janet and Jeff and to find out about the history of the farm and their plans for the future. Although we didn't stay in the Cloud 9 house, we would recommend it for families with children who have not had any exposure to farm life.
We definitely will be back again, hopefully when the blueberries are in season, and would highly recommend this
vacation to anyone looking for lots of local activities or just taking it easy.
This house was perfect for our family reunion. Multiple couples stayed in the home which provided multiple comfortable gathering spots - including multiple large rooms and a deck with a spectacular view. Janet is exceptionally pleasant and accommodating. The house was neat and clean. Asheville is easily accessible; but the property is very private and peaceful. A great place to get away from it all and spend some good time with family and friends!
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay @ Heavenly Hideaway! Getting away for three days was “Heavenly!” We made the hike to Buzzards’ Roost AND up to the flag at Chimney Rock, visited Grove Park Inn and the Folk Art Center! Loved the fresh eggs! Thank-you, Janet for the warm welcome and hospitality! Our girls sure had a great idea in sending us here for some R&R.
