We had an amazing time in Hawaii. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for relaxation, comfort, and very close proximity to the beach. As two families, with four kids, travelling together we found the house spacious and comfortable. We had everything we needed, including lots of beach towels and cooking supplies. We did not lack in any way. The beach, just down the private road, was spectacular! Great for sunbathing and bodyboarding. The pool at the house was a hit for the kids. It was the perfect size! The owners were very accommodating and made sure we had a great stay. We would recommend booking this property for your next stay on Oahu!
We visit Hawaii every couple of years and usually stay in Kailua. It's our favorite part of the Island. We have rented several houses from VRBO and this was by far one of the nicest! Not only is the house beautiful (pictures do not do it justice) but Bob and Liz were great to work with and Liz was so nice and made her self available if we needed something. It comfortably accommodated the 6 of us including an 18 month old.
Thanks again Bob for your generosity and hospitability & Thank you Liz for everything.
This was a return visit for us--a month long stay to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have rented through VRBO worldwide and have never had a more lavishly indulgent and relaxing visit than in the Kailua home of Maddy and Bob. We use the term "home" advisedly, because if you have rented before you can quickly discern the difference between a "rental" home and an "owner" home. Kailua is 25 minutes across the mountains and a world away from Waikiki. This home induces relaxation from the moment you enter. And it is outfitted not just for comfort but for cooking (and the wine fridge is close at hand). Spacious, Interior Design tasteful, totally in harmony with the environment, but with A/C available throughout--a real rarity in a Hawaii rental. And the pool--not just accommodating but constantly seductive. Off the second floor master is an extraordinary, long, luxurious lanai cooled by the trade winds, overlooking a beautifully landscaped back yard--a perfect lazy afternoon reading retreat where we spent many, many hours. Only steps to the beach to walk or boogie board. After previewing the pre-dawn light from the capacious master bath, take a stroll down the private lane, and go through the gate and the short beach path to enjoy a walk on the beach continually ranked as one of the top beaches on earth--the dawn cloud formations are magical, the sweep of the view from the beach to the Pali Mountains transportive. Quaint Kailua town is close by, with totally indulgent "grinds" at such eateries as Crepes No Ka Oi, Uahi Grill, and Cactus (Google them). Just close by for Friday music sets is Pinky's Puu Puus, where we enjoyed sets by Shawn Barnett, who has acted and sung several times on Hawaii Five-O. The Farmer's Market downtown on Thursdays brings in a wide variety of local eats in food shop tents from Waimanalo Lemonade to Sushi Sliders, as well as entertainment--a good chance to actually feel local. There is easy access by major roads to all other parts of the island. The home owners, Maddy and Bob, simply could not be more gracious and helpful, and their personable "on the ground" person, Liz, nearby in Kailua, is always there if you have any question or need. Like most travelers, we vote with our feet. We have been to this stellar property twice, and, if we are lucky, will return again.
My husband & I were planning on celebrating our 40th anniversary in Hawaii, which happens to be right before Christmas. We've been to Hawaii numerous times & absolutely love it. Our son & his family had never been to Hawaii so they decided to meet us there to celebrate our anniversary and the holidays. There was a total of 6 of us staying in the house. Our grandchildren (18 & 11) loved the pool & just about lived in it when we were at the house. The layout of the house was perfect for us & the kitchen was fantastic & got lots of use. Working with Bob from the time we first contacted him to inquire about renting his home until we checked out was a pleasure. He was extremely helpful & maintained contact with us throughout the process, which was close to a year. Prior to our arrival our grandson asked if there was a BluRay player at the house. When we contacted Bob to ask him about it he said there wasn't one, however, we could buy one & he'd repay us. It turned out not to be an issue because we were so busy the entire time. Bob did tell me that he was having some put in after we left. Once we were in the house, Liz came by to meet us and provided info on a variety of things, including some great places to eat. We actually had our anniversary dinner at one of the restaurants she recommended. The beach was beautiful & most of the time it was like we had our own private beach. There's plenty of things at the house for the pool & beach so you don't need to bring a thing. Best vacation experience we've had & we've traveled to many places in the U.S., Europe & the Caribbean. Mahalo Bob for sharing your beautiful home with us. Also to Liz for her help & recommendations.
Taking some time to reflect back on 2014, and this exceptional vacation rental in Kailua was one of the highlights of our year.
From the very start of our search for a home to stay in we were impressed with the communication from the owners. Bob was always prompt and very accommodating, but what always stood out for us was his kindness and sense of humour. This was driven home when a few days in to our stay Hurricane Iselle was headed toward the Hawaiian Islands and warnings were issued for all of the islands. Bob made contact with us every single day leading up to what turned out to be a non-event for Oahu. His kindness and concern for our well being helped us through a few nervous moments - we particularily appreciated his calming words and enjoyed his sense of humour. He continued to be in contact with us even after the threat passed - we truly, truly appreciated hearing from him. Because of him, we knew what to do if something might have happened - he was more a friend through it all rather than a property manager/owner.
Then there is the house - spectacular! It was as described on the listing information, only so much better! We have stayed in other vacation rentals, and they have been very nice, but they were vacation rentals. This was like renting a home. We were able to use everything that was in the house - what impressed us was the wide variety of things to use. We were able to prepare our meals like we were in our own home. We spent many enjoyable hours in the beautiful back yard, barbecuing pool side.
The location of the property - ahhh, beautiful! It was located on a private lane, steps from the beach. And I would have to say, perhaps the nicest beach we visited while we were there. The sand - silken and soft - I can still feel it in my toes when I close my eyes. Close to ammenities, an excellent, excellent spot for sure!
I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Oahu. Great owners, great home, outstanding location...this had everything we had been looking for and then some. Thanks so much to Bob for all of the Aloha!
My family of 4 and relatives (for a total of 8) stayed at this Kailua house rental for Christmas and New Year's. The house exceeded our expectations. The master suite and bathroom - felt like I was at a 5 star hotel. The upscale kitchen was outstanding and heavily used. The salt water pool and 3D TV's amenities are better than any hotel in Oahu would provide. We hosted dinners for 16 people with ease - plenty of housewares and the grill was in excellent condition. The close proximity of the beach from the house was the icing on the cake. I've stayed at another house rental on Kailua (also 100 yards from beach), but Bob's property was superior to it in every category.
The neighbors that live on this street always displayed the aloha spirit to us.
Bob's communication from start to finish was awesome and his house instructions was very clear. There was more than enough supplies (towels, beach towels, toilet paper, etc..) for our stay and Bob let us use everything available in his kitchen panty.
He and Liz answered all my questions quickly and were more than willing to help me on any issues we encountered.
All the relatives that came by for dinners were in awe of the house and wished they could stay there as well.
I would not hesitate to rent this property again when I vacation in Oahu.
Kailua is the garden spot of Oahu. You will love it as much as we do, and we think that it is paradise.
