This is a completely restored 1890s vintage historic home originally built by Bozeman pioneer Christopher Waterman. The home has wood floors, oriental carpets, 9-10 foot ceilings, and horse hair plaster throughout. It has been been completely restored and remodeled over the past few years. The home is outfitted with Montana made Mission style furniture. There is a hot tub and unique outdoor concrete dining area.
The home was located on Main Street in Bozeman until the 1960s when it was rescued from destruction by Ann and Roger Stradley who bought it and moved it several blocks to its current location. We purchased it in 2003 and remodeled the whole place, new kitchen, two new baths, and refinished all the original wood floors.
The home was once owned by the justice of the peace and several hundred Montanans were married in what is now the living room.
Home has exquisite views of the Bridger Mountains, the Gallatin Range, and the Spanish Peaks.
The Waterman House is conveniently located just a few minutes walk from MSU campus and all the experiences of downtown Bozeman.
**If you need additional space, the M Carriage house, adjacent to this property is available. See vrbo rental #346216 for more details on the M Carriage House**
You must be 25 years or older to rent this home.

My wife and I a part time residents of Bozeman, and love the place. The town and people are rare and fine folk. I am a retired econ prof from SC, and I work part time at an environmental think tank in Montana. We have family ties in Montana and have lived and loved the place for a long time.
We have listed a few of our favorites on the map, and included a complete visitors guide (food, attractions, activities, walking tours, day adventures, shopping, etc.) in the house.
Valerie purchased this house in 2003
Bozeman is a classic American place with unique quality of life. The people, the mountains, the climate, make Bozeman one of the finest places on earth.
Our home is just a couple blocks and easy walk from MSU campus, several nice large city parks, downtown Bozeman, and any number of great restaurants and food stores. We have listed a few of our favorites on the map, and included a complete visitors guide (food, attractions, activities, walking tours, day adventures, shopping, etc.) in the house.
Thank you so much for all the hospitality. We enjoyed Montana and your beautiful home! Our adventure was full of hiking, fly fishing, shopping and Yellowstone. We all look forward to another visit! Thanks again!
We have stayed in many VRBO properties and this one is by far the best equipped and the most comfortable place we have stayed. This place truly felt like home and we had plenty of room for the family to spread out. Ted and Nancy live close by and are very nice people to deal with, I will definitely be back.
We had an amazing family vacation! The house was perfect for the 6 of us (all adults now) and convenient to the airport, skiing at Bridger Bowl, downtown restaurants and Yellowstone. It is a lovely home, well cared for and stocked with everything we needed. Loved the hot tub after skiing (and the warm robes provided!) Planning on making this an annual trip now especially since we have dear friends living in Bozeman!
We had a very nice time at the Waterman house. It was a great house with all the amenities that we needed. The kitchen was wonderful to cook in and the dining room table was perfect for the 8 of us with room to spare. Everyone enjoyed their beds and bedding. The bathrooms were updated and the upstairs walkin shower was awesome. We all had fun in the hot tub and it was large enough for 7 adults. We thought that the history of the house was interesting and we liked reading about it. When we arrived in Bozeman, it was 57 degrees so the young people loved sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs. All in all, great house, great location, and great weekend!!!! I would definitely recommend this house to friends! Thank you to Bobbi and Valerie!
I rented this home for 11 family members traveling to Bozeman for my daughter's graduation from MSU. Since we live only hours away from Bozeman, I had driven by this home while visiting my daughter. The house was much larger than I had expected from the online photos and seeing it from the outside. There was ample space for each family member, including three children. There is a futon but the two older children chose to sleep on the floor in their sleeping bags. We brought a playpen for the baby. The kitchen had almost everything we needed to prepare for a small graduation party we held in the backyard. The historic home is beautiful with comfortable beds and nice bedding. Being an old home, the plumbing and floors can be a bit noisy but this also adds to its character and charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Waterman House.
Possibly the best place to stay in all of Bozeman. Beautiful, comfortable, historic house in a great neighborhood. 3 bedrooms 1 bath upstairs, 1 bedroom 1 bath downstairs. Walking distance to the Bozeman Food Coop and Montana State University. Bobby, the owner, is very cordial. My children loved the front porch with rocking chairs and the back yard. A great jumping off point for exploring Yellowstone National Park, downtown Bozeman, the Gallatin National Forest, and more.
My now husband and I lived in this house for almost two years, and fell in love with the house, the owner and each other here. There are plenty of places to say in Bozeman, but there's something magical about staying in a home where early settlers were married, and where new generations continue to make lasting memories. I don't know if casual "modern-historic" is too much of an oxymoron, but it's really the only way to describe the Waterman house. It's posh, but you don't have to leave your boots at the door. My husband, two dogs and came to Bozeman and never left.
There is a Carriage House adjacent to the property available for additional guests. For more details see the Bozeman listing for M Carriage House (VRBO #346216).
