About Kerstin Preyasi Exter

We sailed to Hawaii from the South Pacific in 1991 and the Island welcomed us so much that we are still here today! We love to travel and explore new places preferably from a nice , home-like base. We used our travel experiences to create a welcoming home away from home for you.

We are woodworkers by trade and have included our expertise as well as our love for detail and beauty into our properties.

We love local food and cooking so our kitchen is well equipped.

We support sustainability- we have solar power ( with electric back up), we compost and recycle, we have herbs, nuts and fruit in out garden that we are happy to share with you.

We both meditate and Kerstin practices yoga. When we are on island we are happy to share our Yoga and meditation shala with our guests.

Kerstin Preyasi Exter purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Kerstin Preyasi Exter chose Kohala Coast

We got word about this Macadamia orchard from friends who live next door while we were traveling. Since we loved layed-back North Kohala and had lived and fallen in love with Hawi Town already we made an offer sight unseen and proceeded to design and build our little piece of paradise that we now share with travelers.

What makes this cottage unique

We offer you a unique, beautiful, safe and welcoming place to relax. This is not just a vacation rental, this is a home!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to thank you again for a wonderful stay at the Hawi house - we enjoyed every aspect of it! The house really exceeded our expectations, it was super comfortable and felt like home right from the first day. I will definitely recommend it to friends and we will be back during our next trip to the island. I discovered so much more to see and do there - cant wait!

Nice, comfortable home in good area of the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

The home is comfortable, roomy, thoughtfully-designed and well-maintained. The property has lush landscaping and feels very private and quiet even though there are other homes nearby. The home is well-equipped with everything we might need to have a great stay. The owner and property manager were very easy to communicate with before and during our stay. The North Kohala region of the Big Island was a nice place to stay while we enjoyed beaches, hiking and exploring the area. Hawi is a friendly place. The zip line excursion was one of the highlights of our stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends.

Alles in allem, sehr zu empfehlen

  • 4 of 5

Peaceful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The property is on a busy street however it is set far enough back so that you will not even notice. This street takes you to Hawi town, a short distance away. Do take your car tho, it is not a walkable street with minimal shoulder and cars traveling quickly. But back to the property! We found it a restful haven, felt pampered by all the amenities and soothed by the setting and decor. The hosts were unfailingly gracious and responsive.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for staying with us! It was a pleasure to meet you and have you here. Just to clarify for future guests: The term "busy road" is relative as Hawi has only a population of 600. However, there are no sidewalks or curb space on Hawi Road and it is a steep hill up from town ( 1 mile) so we do not recommend our guests walk on that road.We are down a long drive and it is quiet and peaceful back at the cottage.

Beautiful Hawaii experience!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Hawi. The unit was very nicely decorated and furnished with everything we needed. A great way to experience Hawaii. This part of the big island is so beautiful and tropical. We found the properties where the owner is on-site or local really makes a difference. A 5 star experience!!!

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Hawai Cottage was perfect for our trip to The Big Island. The Cottage is very clean, and they have everything you need including beach supplies and a full kitchen.

We spent 3 days at the Mauna Lani, another day in Volcano and then onto the cottage. hawi is a sleepy, cute artist community. We loved the coffee shop, and had some great sushi in town too. Keristin the host, is great - very welcoming, accommodating & flexible.

My husband and I stayed here from Seattle for our 20th wedding anniversary and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. Quiet, private, clean, comfortable - a beautiful piece of paradise. We love Hawi and will definitely stay here again. The rental was even better than expected! Thanks Kerstin!
