We sailed to Hawaii from the South Pacific in 1991 and the Island welcomed us so much that we are still here today! We love to travel and explore new places preferably from a nice , home-like base. We used our travel experiences to create a welcoming home away from home for you.
We are woodworkers by trade and have included our expertise as well as our love for detail and beauty into our properties.
We love local food and cooking so our kitchen is well equipped.
We support sustainability- we have solar power ( with electric back up), we compost and recycle, we have herbs, nuts and fruit in out garden that we are happy to share with you.
We both meditate and Kerstin practices yoga. When we are on island we are happy to share our Yoga and meditation shala with our guests.
Kerstin Preyasi Exter purchased this cottage in 1998
We got word about this Macadamia orchard from friends who live next door while we were traveling. Since we loved layed-back North Kohala and had lived and fallen in love with Hawi Town already we made an offer sight unseen and proceeded to design and build our little piece of paradise that we now share with travelers.
We offer you a unique, beautiful, safe and welcoming place to relax. This is not just a vacation rental, this is a home!
I wanted to thank you again for a wonderful stay at the Hawi house - we enjoyed every aspect of it! The house really exceeded our expectations, it was super comfortable and felt like home right from the first day. I will definitely recommend it to friends and we will be back during our next trip to the island. I discovered so much more to see and do there - cant wait!
Thank you to our awesome hosts for a very peaceful and relaxing stay. What a beautiful space you have created.. It truly lacks nothing. Looking forward to staying here again soon! Mahalos and Aloha
What a great stay we had at your cottage. It was the most relaxing accommodation you can imagine. Location is excellent for enjoying the true beauty of Hawaii. Not only are there so many things to see and do in Kohala but just a very short drive to so many areas is easy from Hawi. Beaches, mountains, rain forest, Hamakua Coast, valleys, on and on. Your cottage is pristine with all the amenities required. Would absolutely stay with you again!!
We absolutely loved the Hawi Cottage! The setting is unique, private and amazing. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary there and we couldn't have picked a better place. We had some rain and some good winds while we were there which made the cottage seem even more cozy! I really can't say enough about our stay. Thank you so much! We would definitely stay here again!
This was our second time renting this beautiful cottage. We always find it clean and well appointed. There's a great big table for my vacation crafting (rubber stamp postcards and calligraphy practice) and Jim's computer. There's not only a French Press for coffee but also a stove top espresso machine. The on site waste receptacles allow one to keep the cottage fastidiously clean and therefore pestfree! The outdoor geckos are varied (we found 3 species) and one likes tiny bites of banana, please. The place is quiet and close to Hawi and its excellent everything (food, stores, real estate agent). There's laundry facilities, allowing one to pack less. Our dive equipment was easily maintained with the provided hose. The owners are available and responsive to any questions.
The home is comfortable, roomy, thoughtfully-designed and well-maintained. The property has lush landscaping and feels very private and quiet even though there are other homes nearby. The home is well-equipped with everything we might need to have a great stay. The owner and property manager were very easy to communicate with before and during our stay. The North Kohala region of the Big Island was a nice place to stay while we enjoyed beaches, hiking and exploring the area. Hawi is a friendly place. The zip line excursion was one of the highlights of our stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends.
