Location was great, away from the nightlife but close enough to walk to everything in Mission Beach. As for the property itself, it is an old motel rehabbed into apartments. Most if not all are short term rentals therefore the crowd is transient. One couple chain smoked in the 'smoking' area throughout our entire stay. The hot tub has a sign that asks those having diarrhea within the past 2 weeks not to use it. There is a parking spot which is a huge plus. The apartment itself was average. The furnace made a high pitched noise so we had to turn it off. The shower water pressure was subpar. There were plenty of towels to use, which was nice but the laundry is communal for the complex (not in the unit), and costs money. Kitchen is adequate for a short term stay. The duvet / comforter on the bed smelled like it had not been washed recently. All in all, okay place to sleep but if you are looking for more quality, I would suggest elsewhere.

Owner's Response: Firstly this guest messed up his booking. He called 3 days prior to his arrival to let me know he needs to check in a day early. We accommodated him. Then a day later he called to say he's coming in the next day so we again scrambled to accommodate him. After being in the property a couple days he called again to let me know he was leaving early & wanted a refund. I was not able to rebook it on such short notice so I couldn't refund him. Secondly California is a drought state so low flow toilets & showers are required by law. Additionally the signage about those with "active diarrhea" not being aloud to use the spa is also a required sign for all pools & spas in California as required by law. Yes it was a hotel in the 50's but was converted impeccably and the old hotel is one of the photos in the ad so it should not of been a surprise. Most all units in Mission Beach in general are put up for short term rentals during spring break & summer months. So they are all VRBO guests such as yourself. Lastly I have no control if guests choose to smoke in the designated area but our unit isn't even on the same floor. I'm pretty sure this is petty payback for not providing a refund.

Beautiful view in a relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

Very clean, very cozy place to spend a week away from it all. You can watch the sunrise from the living room. The only negative is the wall heater. If it turns on it's constantly banging and when it's off there is a constant high pitched noise emanating from it. The views outweigh the noises though.

Excellent location!!

  • 5 of 5

Great little condo in a fantastic location - a few steps one way to the Pacific, a few steps the other way to the Bay. It's really only a half-block in either direction, with public beaches all around. Really nice view from the living room. Clean, well appointed, and comfortable for 3; no problem with the locks; pictures are accurate. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub on quiet evenings. We were there in January and the night temps dipped into the upper 40's a couple of times. My *only* complaint is that the heater, should you actually need to use it, is quite loud. Like, jack-hammer loud. We quickly learned to turn on the heat when we came home at night to warm up the unit, and then turn it off before going to sleep. It held the warmth overnight without a problem. A simple work around for a relatively small problem in an otherwise great unit. I would definitely recommend this property.

Good pick for location and well-appointed little condo

  • 4 of 5

Picking a vacation rental can be a bit overwhelming especially when you don't know Mission Beach from Dog Beach. We lucked out that this condo was in a nice spot where we could walk to a great ocean beach and watch boats coming in on the inlet from our living room window, but still quiet at night. The place had everything we needed -- nice kitchen (though we didn't cook once), good bed, comfy sofas to flop. The only thing that would make it even better would be a couple of old bikes. Other units had them, but we had to walk about a mile to rent them on the boardwalk. We appreciated the parking space, since we knew we didn't have to look for one when we got home at night. All and all, a really nice week.

Nice condo with a great view and walking distance to the beach

  • 4 of 5

Overall the experience was very nice. I think the condo was smaller than what I originally visioned, but worked for our family of four. It was clean and true to the description. The two couches pullout to form beds for the kids, which was fine. The bed in the main room could probably use a new mattress. It's the equivalent of a full bed and is definitely tight quarters. I think for a family of four the place is a little on the small side, but no doubt beats staying in a hotel room especially given the walking distance from Mission Beach. The neighbors were literally moving out during the night one evening and were a little noisy. I'm guessing that won't be a problem for anyone else though. I tried to get in touch with the owner to get a later checkout but couldn't get in contact after trying for a couple of days and never heard from him until we left. I didn't want to impose, so we ended up leaving at the 11:00 checkout time just in case. Would have been nice to have a little more time on our final day though. Overall I thought it was a decent condo.
