Kristi Funnell purchased this house in 2005
Of all the homes we have rented (probably 10 or so) this one had the most pictures and décor of any of them. It seemed very personal. The dining and living area are very full of furniture, really too much furniture for our family to get around.
We enjoyed this property very much, staying a week with our four grown children, three spouses and two grandchildren. The pak 'n play was like a play pen, very roomy for our 5 1/2 month old grandson. The bedroom with the trundle bed downstairs could use a new bed but otherwise all the beds, even the sofa bed were comfortable. Plenty of sheets, pillows and blankets as well as towels. The kitchen was well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, crock pot, coffee maker, mixer, food processor and more. The kitchen cabinets are very full, really too many glasses, so there is not much room for the items you bring.
We loved the backyard seating, gas grill and fire pit. There are several TVs and movies, should you enjoy that, but bring your own games. If you bring bikes, be aware that you do not have a garage to store them in. We locked our seven bikes to the big tree in the front yard, not ideal. We enjoyed biking and our daughter enjoyed six and seven mile runs along N Bayshore Dr and E Harbor Dr - beautiful! We also enjoyed the track just a few blocks away at Elk Rapids Middle School.
Don't miss Torch Lake, it's just a 20 minute drive to the public doc on Pub Dock Rd. At the dock, you'll find a grassy park with a playground for little ones and lots of shade to relax as well as pleasant bathrooms. We had great weather, so we visited twice during the week. We boated to Power Island one day and enjoyed some great hiking and swimming, well worth the trip. We walked down Dexter and Dam Rd to a little beach on the Bay to view a gorgeous sunset one evening. You'll also love Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen for dinner out, lots of variety and flavor! For an end of the week treat, we all walked to Cone Corral, great ice creams, shakes and flurries.
Thank you, Kristi, for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. It was a week we will remember for many years to come!
This home is absolutely gorgeous! The pictures looked great when I booked this home, but when I opened the door, all I could say was “wow.” It is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. It had everything we needed and then some. The bedrooms are all quite large, and the beds comfy. There are three full baths, two major sitting areas (one up, one down), but we mostly lounged on the decks or around the fire pit, where there are plenty of nice chairs. The appliances are modern and in excellent working order. We never even used the wet bar on the lower level, but it's handy and complete with a small fridge. The very large stainless steel gas grill was put to good use. Grocery store just one block from the home is a huge plus! Kristi (owner) and her son Jesse were a joy to deal with, making sure we had everything we needed for a fantastic family vacation. Again, the whole place is just lovely (Kristi apparently moonlights as an interior decorator).
The town of Elk Rapids has that small town charm, and the downtown “main street” area has some cute shops, as well as a street party with live music from 6-9 PM on (I think) Wednesday. There are plenty of access points for canoes/kayaks, a nice walkway around the interior harbor, and a park/beach on Grand Traverse Bay, just a mile or so from the home. We spent one day at the beach…there are picnic tables, bathrooms, tennis courts, and a play area for kids. Elk Lake is very large, crystal clear, and beautiful. My daughter (100 lbs soaking wet) carried her kayak from the home to a launch point about three blocks away...a side street that dead-ends at Elk Lake. Traverse City attractions are only about 20-30 minutes away, a little further for the heart of wine country but well worth it.
Absolutely have to agree with the other reviewers on here....this property is amazing! It's spotless, well appointed, spacious, and wonderfully decorated. It's convenient to a full service grocery store that suited all our needs as well as the town of Elk Rapids with their cute little shops and restaurants and a fabulous family friendly beach complete with a playground.
Kristi promptly responded to my inquiries and helped facilitate delivery of a crib for our granddaughter. She even provided a space saver high chair and play yard among the many amenities in the house. The one heads up I'd give to future renters is that this house is really more of an "adult/older children" type rental. The beautiful appointments of this house gave me minor panic attacks with a toddler on the loose...Totally my fault for not realizing/asking beforehand! Our 4 yr. old grandson declared this the "most beautiful house he's ever seen"....I'd have to agree with him. I would wholeheartedly recommend this property to my family/friends looking for a vacation rental in the area. Thanks Kristi for sharing your awesome property with us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Elk Rapids home during New Years week. If you appreciate a clean, well-appointed place halfway between Traverse City and Shanty Creek, this is it. Plenty of room to spread out for families and outfitted with everything you need to make your trip enjoyable. Pictures don't do it justice--comfortable, clean (I emphasize this again, because it's spotless, and other places we've stayed always seem to reveal unexpected surprises), homey. Kristi had the home decked out for the holidays and it was beautiful. Within walking distance of a great grocery store and restaurant (Pearls), and close to the charming town of Elk Rapids. Surrounded by water, we imagine this is a great stay during the summer too--hope to try it again and experience a different season at this wonderful home. Thanks again, Kristi, for sharing your excellent property and helping us kick off the new year right!
Amazing home. Very clean and has everything you need. We had a wonderful time and the area was beautiful. The beach nearby was perfect for a family. The only drawback was having to drive. It was a very short drive though. House was very roomy and accommodated us perfectly! Overall great experience!!!!
We were two families with three kids (2, 4, and 5) who were up in the area for a wedding. The house was spacious and a mile from a great beach. Everything in the listing was accurate and the owner was quick to answer any questions I had. It was a great price for the house. Definitely helped to have a great vacation!
