About Karen Heywood
This has been our family vacation house since the 1960's, lovingly maintained and enjoyed by three generations. We are three sisters (two in MA one in NYC) jointly owning and operating the property as an all-season rental, using it ourselves with our families whenever we can. We'll be sharing great memories, providing family fun year-round and looking forward to many adventures still to come.
Karen Heywood purchased this Chalet in 1964
Why Karen Heywood chose North Conway Village
This is the best spot in the North Conway/Carroll County area with easy access to all the action for which it is known but without any sense of traffic or crowds. Family members can go separate ways and meet up at the chalet later, or just stay home and enjoy great natural beauty right outside the door walking in the woods and along the brook. The chalet is uniquely located at the end of a dead-end unpaved road. You can enjoy your pine-scented mornings on a sun-dappled deck listening only to the trees and the babbling brook, and yet at night there are fabulous restaurants, bars, movies and plenty of music and theatre events to entertain you. Serious thrill-seekers will be challenged with the climbing, riding, skiing, mountain-biking and kayaking in the area, but leaf-peepers, readers, golfers, shoppers and birders are equally happy in the same town. And it's only 2 1/2 hours from Boston by car, so weekends are an easy escape.
What makes this Chalet unique
The living room, dining room and kitchen are upstairs on an open floor plan with a wood beamed cathedral ceiling high overhead and sliding glass windows all around. There is a wood-burning fireplace in the living room with built-in couches and retro Danish Modern chairs to settle in and enjoy the fire, TV , DVD or wireless internet. A queen bedroom and full bath are also upstairs and a spiral staircase leads down to the family room, two additional bedrooms (one queen, one with bunk beds and a twin) and another full bath. There is lots of room for everyone, storage is ample, and the house is well-equipped for entertaining.

Walked into town everyday- great location!
Glad you enjoyed yourselves!
Great location, affordable, CLEAN!!
We just returned from a great Thanksgiving weekend away at this lovely property. Yes the furniture is a bit dated...however, it is well maintained and CLEAN!! The location is perfect, at the very end of a dead end street, walking distance (about 10 minutes) to town. The house is well stocked with dishes, towels, blankets, sheets...etc. If there are any words of warning, it would be to watch out for your shoes on arrival...there are plenty of pine trees, so the ground is covered in sap. You will get globs on the bottom of your shoes. If you do, however, the owners keep a large bottle of hand sanitizer (for this reason) that will help in removing the sap off of clothes and shoes. It was not enough of a bother to deter us from returning. Already looking for availablity to ski!!
So glad you had fun! The sap situation has never been a problem in 50 years, but certainly is an annoyance now. The locals have reported that it is due to the abnormally warm Fall they had this year. Come back anytime!
The picture of serenity!
I loved this place! The house was adorable and the brook outside was a definite added bonus. The location is quiet and peaceful and yet you're within walking distance to the main shopping area for North Conway. We had such a great time. Thank you Karen for letting us stay at your little piece of paradise :)
So glad you had fun and thanks for taking care of our little house.
Lovely little cabin that met our needs. Conveniently located in North Conway yet the feel was secluded. Enchanting brook behind the house was a bit difficult to get to due to the steepness of the terrain behind the cabin. Just need to be watchful of small children. Everyone enjoyed their stay. Accommodations were charming and very comfortable. Would like to have been able to stay longer!
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Come back again anytime.
Peaceful setting in perfect location
We had a great time & would rent it again. Plenty of space for all. Great communication from owner. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
We found the cottage to be very dated.
The place was very clean. The kitchen had everything that we needed. The pots & pans were in every cupboard. Someone needs to reorganize the cupboards and remove a lot of unnecessary stuff. The place was roomy but the furniture is low which makes it difficult to get up and very uncomfortable.
When we arrived the place smelt very musty. I realize that it is in the forest surrounded by trees but it was necessary to wash all our clothes including our sweaters and jackets when we arrived home. The place is in a great location and close to everything.
Unfortunately it has not been upgraded in a very long time.
The house is in the woods near the base of Mt. Cranmore yet walking distance to town.
