Very quiet getaway.
We arrived in the afternoon after our flight into Green Bay. Very secluded and quiet, back porch is just steps away from Lake Michigan. This is an older quaint cabin that could easily sleep 9 folks. Might get a bit crowded in the bathroom. Plan to pick up bathroom spray, there are three operable windows but no vent for the bath. The views are amazing especially sunrise. Sun comes up early and set late compared to NC. The entire peninsula is very buggy, be sure to purchase bug spray. We used citronella candles at night. Nights can be very cool, so we purchased wood from next to the Shell station about a quarter mile south. The guy that operates the firewood sales will even deliver to the cabin. We had to use the two furnaces a couple of mornings but the rest of the time we didn't need it. There is a good fireplace for you to use when it is cool and works very well. If you're flying in from Green Bay, I would recommend buying your groceries from Woodman's grocery in Green Bay, good prices and amazing selection of meats, breads and cheese. The closest grocery store from the cabin is about 20 miles, you can get some things at the local Shell store but it is limited. The cabin is fully equipped with anything you need for cooking and has several spices in the cabinet. napkins, paper towels, toilet paper and coffee filters are provided. There are a number of books to read about the UP, some of them are very good. Be sure to go to the Friday fish fries along the peninsula. Fresh lake perch, walleye and whitefish. If you haven't tried walleye, you are in for a treat. The best restaurant for that that we found is about 20 miles south to Applejack's, looks like a run down bar but it far from that, get there early and understand they are on Central time, so they are an hour earlier. If you are looking for a quiet secluded getaway this is it. We loved it.
Spectacular Cottage on the lake.
Wonderful cottage, spectacular views!!! This cottage is perfect for couples & families. We traveled with our son & his family and my grandkids were never bored (ages 3, 6, & 8). They really enjoyed the ducks in the lake, and playing in the sand along the lake. We loved the large patio, even in the rain the kids were still able to be outside. It was wonderful to sit and enjoy the sunrise each morning on the patio, and to listen to the waves at night! We traveled to Escanaba, and to the Pictured Rocks boat tour in Munising. When I make travel plans I always look for cottages or cabins to rent, and we travel a lot, I have to say that this cottage is by far the very best we have ever been lucky enough to stay at and enjoy! It's completely furnished, so you will not need to bring anything but your clothes and your sense of adventure! We hope to rent this again in 2017 when we return to the Escanaba area!
Great location for our destination of fishing in Cedar River. Fishing was fantastic. Good accommodations for the 5 of us. Enjoyed the cool nights around a campfire watching a full moon rise over Lake Michigan. It doesn't get any better than that except for enjoying the company of my sons and grand son.
What a Great Place.
We stayed from 13-20 July, 2014. Before writing anything let me say the cabin was spotless. Even though it says pet friendly, there was not a hair or smell anywhere. We met 2 of the gals that clean between guests and they mentioned the 2 collies and family that rented just before us and how much hair was left behind. The cleaning gals did a wonderful job.
This is a great place to stay. The location is quiet and peaceful. The views are wonderful. It is fairly quick drive to anything you need to buy or if you want to eat . We hope to rent again in the near future. We did not have one issue during the visit.
We strive to make our property an enjoyable place to stay and know how important it is for many families to include their furry members on vacation. We welcome all of those well behaved furry members and hope that all of our guests enjoy the piece of heaven we know as the Upper Peninsula. We want all of our guests to enjoy their time at Marina Point Cottage and to have the piece of mind that everyone will have a fresh and clean place to stay.
Great porch looking out to the lake.
Out stay in Cedar River Michigan
We loved our stay at this cottage. It is right on the lake and have a big window that looks right out on the bay. So the peaceful water view is very relaxing. The Marina is right next door and makes for a lovely walk or canoe trip. The yard is big and so there is lots of privacy. When the front and back doors are open there is a wonderful breeze that comes through the cottage. There is only one bathroom but very large and can accommodate multiple activities, we were 8 people but we made it work. The kitchen is nicely equipped with all sorts of pots and pans. The beds were comfortable. We were able to get Verizon wireless on our phones and create a wifi hotspot for the family (there is a tower across the street by the convenience store). There is a lovely little restaurant that has been there since I was a kid, that servers great food - I suggest the broasted chicken or the fish on Fridays. The convenience store is pretty well stocked should you need or forget any thing. My brother took us on some ATV trails that were simply fantastic. And the fishing in the nearby Cedar River is great. If you find this cottage available for your vacation, I suggest you grab it for a lovely holiday in the Upper Penisula of Michigan.
The Upper Peninsula is a wonderful wilderness waiting to be explored. Over 300 waterfalls, lighthouses, National Lakeshore, state parks, three Great Lakes, museums, shopping, dining, and more. There are many fishing opportunities on the Great Lakes or inland rivers, lakes, and streams with many charter fishing options. Types of boating ranges from dinner cruises on Lake Superior to sailing, canoeing, kayaking, all sizes of fishing vessels, pontoon boats, cabin cruisers, and more. Take in a bike ride on one of the trails for cruising bikes or mountain bikes. Or hike through the forest or walk through one of hundreds of parks. Both Escanaba and Menominee have concerts in bandshells along the lake. If you've seen the TV show My Life is a Zoo on the Nat Geo channel, you can visit that zoo in nearby Wallace. You might even have a chance to hold and feed a monkey or other animal. Many of the towns boast unique gift shops and many types of restaurants. Take in a play, concert, art gallery, museum, or festival. Farmers markets can be found in many of the nearby towns. Also, available are several pick your own farms for strawberries and other produce and fruit.
