I enjoy anything to do with outdoors
The Owner purchased this estate in 1977
I have spent countless hours over the last 30+ years enjoying outdoor activities around South Branch. Fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, canoeing, Kayaking and skiing are my passion.
This is a one of a kind location. If you enjoy being away from crowds and out in the wilderness this is a perfect spot. But if you prefer both quiet and also some social activities, the house is close to the Timbers Steak House, Long Lake Bar, Wicker Hills Golf Course, Rifle River State Park, and Huron National Forest.
Wonderful house and property - had absolutely everything one would need for a great vacation - even to frosty mugs in the freezer!! We took the kayaks out and discovered a giant buck (with full rack) drinking out of the lake. The resident loon family came around often and were a delight to listen to. The owners were easy to communicate with and made our first time renting from "non-family" smooth and comfortable. If you desire more beach area, you can travel a short distance to Lake Huron - the town of Oscoda has a delightful beach area that welcomes dogs. Also -- make sure you have dinner at Wiltses Brew Pub in Oscoda ... best homemade root beer EVER!
This is the fourth year our family of 5 has been to "the yellow house" as my kids like to call it. It has been the perfect getaway for our family and that is why we keep coming back. The kids have a small beach to play and can comfortably walk into the water to swim. The kids can also catch all the small fish they want and I can catch some nice bass and pike right off the dock too. Included in the rental is the pontoon boat and all the toys you could want...kayaks, canoes, rowboat, paddleboards. We bring up a tube so we can pull the kids around the lake too. This year is the first year we even saw someone else out on the lake. The lake is not huge but it does the trick and you do not have to worry about others interrupting your family fun. We also brought up a 4-wheeler this year which made it easier to explore the trails and was another fun activity for us to do. There are also plenty of games and movies when the weather brings you inside. No cell phone service but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The bugs can also be bad at times. Thanks to Mike and Tiffany for sharing their place.
Fun place - not too many places where you can be on a lake and not see anyone on the water. We had some great days of catch n release bass fishing. Floated the AuSable (only 15 minutes north - 3 hour float not one cabin). Sandy beaches on Lake Huron another day (about 40-45 minutes). Also had lots of BDB's (Back Deck Beers) on huge back deck. Saw a bald eagle perched on a tree overlooking the lake one day - (nice way to start the morning). Lake is clear (very few weeds) - fun for swimming and relaxing. The kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Board were a bonus. Interior of cabin is comfortable with a big kitchen and living room. Another bonus if coming from Detroit area is the drive is easy - a little less then 3 hours. I will be back.
We had friends from Ireland visiting and wanted them to experience "Up North" Michigan. This was the perfect place. They loved it. With the private lake to swim, boat, kayak and fish and the woods to explore (visit the little house in the woods... it's special). Thier six year old son fell in love with the place and "Up North". The beach, dock, pontoon boat and property were all well maintained. The house is spacious and well equipted with more than enough room for the five or us and the dog. The views from the deck are spectacular. Being Irish.... we enjoyed visiting the local Pub and having a pint or two. Now when we Facetime (in Ireland) with them their son says "when are we going UP North again". We tell him very soon.
myself and 9 buddies stayed a long weekend, highly recommend this place to enjoy nature, convenience with classic north woods rustic retreat yet comfort. Beautiful setting, trails, privacy, nature, fire pit, lake, lodge, thoroughly enjoyed and recommended
The house and lake were both absolutely AMAZING! We brought with us three couples and three dogs and I can honestly say that everyone had a blast. The house is very clean and comfortable and it was not long before we were right at home. The first three days of our trip were gorgeous weather, the second 3 days were a little less pleasant with rain and clouds. However, we found plenty to do with Foosball tournaments, cards and the Olymipcs :) Great place to hike, bike, kayak, jog, read, and relax. The pontoon was great for floating around the lake and the kayaks were great for exploring. We managed to find a way to the second "smaller" lake on the kayaks and saw a couple of beaver lodges! Mike and Tiffany were great with questions before hand, we had a small issue with a toilet while we were there and the "handy man" was there in not much more than minutes to fix it. The security deposit was returned the day after we returned home. During your stay I would highly recommend the Long Lake Tavern (in long lake, only 10 minutes or so away)...GREAT pizza!! Overall I would give a 9.95 out of ten. The ONLY Reason it does not have a perfect 10 is because a little bit bigger lake would be perfect. Don't let that deter you though, I would only say that in a "if it were a perfect word" statement. It will not deter me from returning again, I really do see this as a place we could come year after year after year!! Thanks camp Chiado :)
Fishing, kayaking, hiking private trails to private log cabin in the woods.
