This charming lake house, nestled in a bend of Lake Austin, sits 500 feet across from a breathtaking hillside nature preserve (Balcones Canyonlands Preserve) and 2 blocks from the fabulous Lake Austin Spa Resort. Two guest rooms, one sleeps up to four and the other five. Screened sleeping porch/living area. Full kitchen and two full bathrooms (one upstairs, one down).
The waterfront is loaded with a private dock, deck, boat slip/electric lift and plenty of lounging areas. There are kayaks, perfect for getting out with your friends and family or just taking on nature by yourself. Seitz Camp is an excellent way to unwind and regroup. And when you’ve floated, grilled and played to your heart's content, cool off in the outdoor shower. The patio has a fireplace with plenty of firewood and comfy seating, perfect for the starry Texan moonlit nights.
The downstairs indoor area is dedicated to fun. With an indoor fireplace, a wet bar, ping-pong table and a separate play room for the kids, everyone is sure to be entertained.
For Nature Lovers needing a dose of the great outdoors, the Seitz Camp offers plenty both on and off the water.
Landlubbers: Steiner Ranch, our neighborhood, offers eighteen miles of trails that roll through the hillside offering a new view of the winding river at every turn. Mature oaks and other native trees and plants color the rolling hills while songbirds serenade you.
Birdwatchers: If you don't feel like leaving the nest, train your binoculars or our telescope on the banks of the Travis County preserve which sits just across the Colorado River (or Lake Austin as this portion of the river is called). Herons, egrets, hawks and turkey vultures abound, as well as the occasional Golden-Cheeked Warbler or Black-Capped Vireo.
Paddlers: Grab a boat and head out in search of the old hunting camp on the preserve or the creeks across the river. Take your camera and binoculars and soak in Mother Nature's intoxicating beauty.
Fishermen: Catfish, largemouth bass and sunfish are the predominant species you will find on the end of your hook.
Boaters: Launch your boat 20 feet away at the neighborhood park's private T-Dock and head down river for burgers, beer and a band at Ski Shores or further down to the dam for Tex Mex at the Hula Hut. We have a covered electric lift to keep your boat safe during your stay. Lake Austin runs 19 miles dam to dam with plenty to explore in between.
Golfers: Drive. Slice. Hook 'Em. That's the motto of the University of Texas Golf Club 5 miles down the road, a 7,412 yard Bechtol Russell-designed championship course nestled between Lake Austin and Lake Travis. Falconhead is the closest public course, a PGA Tour-designed 18-hole course open to all.
Couch Potatoes: Hit the hammock. That's all you have to do.
Prefer bing pampered? Have no fear, for Lake Austin Spa is very near. One of the finest luxury destination spas in the country is within walking distance. Enjoy a day of pampering (use of their facilities come with a Day Spa treatment) without breaking the bank, then come "home" to the Camp for the night.
I fell in love at first sight with this house on a Mother's Day visit to the Lake Austin Spa and came home that night with not only a massage, but a weekend home! We enjoyed the house until moving to New York in 2009, and have been fortunate enough to keep it by sharing it with others. My family returns as often as possible, and it's been the meeting place for me and my Austin friends every chance we get.
Kristin White purchased this house in 2006
As Steiner Ranch and Austin continue to boom and grow, this house on this narrow section of the Colorado River (aka Lake Austin) holds its charm and makes you feel like you're a world apart, like Old Funky Fabulous Austin, a step back in time. But now everything you need is right at your fingertips (grocery, bars, restaurants). The nature preserve across the river, so close you feel you could touch it, provides an unspoiled 180 degree view of trees and water and the occasional waterfall. Especially now that Lake Travis is so low, Lake Austin is a refuge from the heat and grind of the city. We're just 5 miles south of the Mansfield Dam so the water is clear and cool. I love my albums, books and mags there. I love doing a day at the spa then coming home to beer and bbq or TexMex. It is the perfect getaway from New York for me and my family, and i love nothing more than to share it :)
* Close to Lake Austin Spa.
* Great for renting a boat for the weekend and cruising as we can launch next door or have it delivered by water and keep it on our lift.
* We can't see ANY development from our deck or dock. Feels like you're in another time and place.
* Low key and easy. Great for a small group.
* Manager lives on-site (in a separate house up the hill) and can wrangle problems or answers questions if need be.
The property was beautiful & the perfect spot on the lake. The downstairs would've been a great place for kids but it was only adults on our trip. The driveway was very hard to get in & out of but mostly because of the way the neighbors parked but plenty of room for all 4 vehicles we had there. Our only complaint is by turning the air up to 80 when you ck out makes it pretty miserable & a long time to cool off in the summer months.
The vacation rental was able to accommodate a large group comfortably and had all the amenities needed to stay on the lake for the entire time. The private boat dock was fantastic for outdoor entertainment and the neighbors were very friendly on the rare occasion that they were on their own dock. The full function kitchen was a great convenience and everything in the house was in great working order. I definitely recommend this rental for a long vacation!
This place was the best! It had everything I could have wanted. It also had things that I forgot. Games, kayaks, bbq pit, fire pit, first aid kit, coolers, fishing poles, grill utensil, ice maker in the fridge, record player and an amazing collection of records, and to top it all off the neighbors are far from the house!. I will definitely try to rent this during the summer.
We loved the house. Everything was clean and as advertised. and hanging out on the dock was the highlight of our trip. Hope to be returning soon with the family!
The location is wonderful, it's right on the water. The house is well used, and looks like it, with some parts in need of cleaning and repair (carpet stains and hole, texture coming off bathroom wall and shower regular not working well, oven is gross...). There are several great outdoor areas for when the weather is nice including a large screened-in porch with an elevated bed on one end with dining table on the other and rocking chairs in the middle, which would be very usable in the spring and summer. There is a nice outside patio on the ground level with cushioned furniture and a stone fireplace/grill. The elevated deck over the water is the best place to hang out! We did not use the TV or turntable, even though there was a large album collection. There is a large taxidermic longhorn on the dining area wall that was a bit of a shock. The master bedroom is beautiful with comfortable beds and light coming through the windows. You look out onto the screened-in porch and also have a view of the water from this bedroom. The beds are comfortable. We were there in the winter so we did not take advantage of the outdoor areas other than the deck over the water, which are the best parts of this house.
