About the property

Abigail House has 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, patio, bbq/grill, screened front porch,

Abigail House is located in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Getaway for a full week and use Abigail House as your home base as you explore Niagara Region, or come just for the weekend and take in a performance at the Shaw Festival or simply unwind in the serene gardens for a few days.

Abigail House has a large back garden that has a private outdoor patio with a bbq/grill. This park like setting is perfect for early morning coffee or a relaxing evening! Why go out to eat every night when you can relax and enjoy the privacy of the backyard, then enjoy a long evening stroll around the town. This location offers the best opportunity to just park the car during your stay and then stroll or bike everywhere! Walk to Queen St and get groceries, goodies and beverage of choice!

Abigail has a turn of the century feel and has large bedrooms and a functional kitchen with a separate pantry. The main floor has a bedroom with a Queen Bed, the 3 piece bathroom, kitchen, pantry, dining room with large harvest table and a living and sitting room.

The screened in front porch is a favourite for those early risers with their first cup of coffee and getting caught up on the news. But my favourite time is twilight when the sun is just setting and the screen in porch lets me people watch with my glass of wine and the screens don't let the mosquitoes in!

Upstairs are the spacious bedrooms and another bathroom. Wooden floors are throughout the house. Each bedroom has a closet and luggage rack. Also full length mirrors. We have an ironing board and iron too!

The basement has the laundry facilities, washer, dryer and laundry tub. We have an ironing board and iron too!

About Janet

We purchased Abigail House over fifteen years ago as a vacation home for our family. We were captivated by the convenient location and old-world charm of this lovely cottage and have carefully updated it to preserve that cozy, welcoming feel.

As our children grew up, we spent many wonderful summers relaxing in the beautiful gardens, hosting family gatherings and celebrations and delighting in all that Niagara has to offer. Now, we feel the time has come to open our vacation home to guests, so that other families and visitors can enjoy the same wonderful experiences and happy memories that our family has cherished over the years.

Why Janet chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

Abigail House is the ideal home base for exploring the beauty and unique attractions of the Niagara region. Shopping, fine dining, the Shaw Festival Theatre (and a grocery store!) are all just a 2 minute walk from the house. You’ll feel the world slow down as you leave traffic jams behind and stroll along our flower-filled street into the quaint and historic downtown. If you’re in the mood for even more relaxation, treat yourself to an afternoon of pampered bliss at one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s many spas.

When you’re feeling more ambitious, plan a tour Niagara’s world-famous wineries and colourful farmers markets, where delicious local food, wine and entertainment are always on offer. Niagara Falls is also a short drive away, with its breathtaking views, family adventures and exciting nightlife. Don’t forget to book a Whirlpool Jet Boat tour of the rapids – it’s a thrilling experience!

Golf lovers can enjoy a round on North America’s oldest golf course, right on the banks of Lake Ontario. And history buffs will love the fact that Abigail House is a historically significant century-old schoolhouse. From here you can explore Fort George and the military museum or take a nostalgic carriage ride into picturesque Old Town. There’s so much to do in the Niagara Region that you’ll be back again before you know it!

Abigail House offers something for everyone. Available for short or long-term stays, you’re welcome to stay for a week (or more!) or just come for a weekend of rest and relaxation. Our doors are always open for you!

Girls weekend away

  • 4 of 5

House was nicely equipped with standard kitchen supplies (utensils, cutlery, plates/bowls, glassware), soaps, toilet paper, and towels. Overall the house was clean and functional, the property was charming, and the bedrooms were very cute!

Only downside was that the air circulation in the upstairs floor wasn't great, and there weren't any ceiling fans to use. Windows seem to be permanently shut (or at least very difficult to open), so we couldn't get any breeze in the rooms. Also, the wall lights didn't turn on, and there weren't any switches to turn on lights (most likely because it is an older house and this wasn't an option back then). Not necessarily a deal breaker, but in the hot heat of the summer, it would be nice to have.

One neighbour was very unfriendly - this isn't an issue with the house per say, but still an unpleasant experience nonetheless. Our group (which majority was 50+ in age) was outside chatting at 8:45pm and she marched over to us saying that we were "SCREAMING" and was very rude. Meanwhile, there was a house down the road with music blasting all night.

wedding family gathering

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home with comfortable beds, ample common space and practical kitchen. We only had snacks and breakfast here, but it would have been quite comfortable to share a meal together. There were 8 of us sharing 4 bedrooms. It was an easy walk to the town's main strip, the shore line and our wedding venue. I'd come back in a minute if I could talk a few friends into coming to the area to enjoy a Shaw festival play or a wine tour.

First timers

This is the first time we ever rented a vacation home anywhere. What an absolutely fantastic experience! This home is located just one or two easy blocks from everywhere - live theater, town, park, Fort George. Just a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all. The home is cozy and comfortable. We walked everywhere. Thank you for filling our hearts with wonderful memories. I would recommend this house to everyone. It is well maintained property. Both the Grill on King and the Irish Harp restaurants are excellent reasonably priced restaurants just a block away. Do not forget Taylor bakery on Queen St. For that special treat. Fort George is an excellent presentation of history.

Car: recommended

Abigail House is the best location for the people who like to park their cars and walk, hike or bike!

Located in the historic old town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. One minute walk to Queen Street, the main shopping, theatre and dining area!. Three minute walk to the shore of the Niagara River where it flows into Lake Ontario. Watch the sunsets from the landmark gazebo!

This is a family friendly location because parks are close with playgrounds, swimming pool, tennis courts and the military museum with the self interpretive walking trail through the historic Commons.
