About David Colin
I was born and raised here in Rome. In the late 1960's, my father was one of the founders of the American University of Rome (AUR), and, indeed, the apartment was the administrative office and classroom (and impromptu party space) for AUR over a number of years. So, the apartment has been in my family for almost 50 years. Although I now live near Washington, DC, where I am an economist, I come back to Rome as often as possible. Despite all my time here, Rome continues to be a fascinating city that always has more to offer. I hope you find the Eternal City as welcoming and wonderful as I do.
David Colin purchased this Apartment in 1992
Why David Colin chose Municipio I
This apartment has been in my family for more than 40 years, was completely remodeled and furnished in late 2010, and is now available for rental as a self-catering apartment. Upon booking, I will send you a detailed information package on the apartment, the neighborhood, restaurants, and sights. We offer one complimentary airport or train station arrival pick-up for our guests, and an English-speaking greeter will meet you at your arrival. Linens, welcome snacks and beverages, utilities, wifi, taxes, check-in/check-out, and end of stay cleaning are all included in the price. Additional car service or cleaning/linens can be arranged.

Very comfortable and attractive apartment. All needs have been thought about, owner is very responsive to any problems, and it truly becomes a "home away."
The Spanish Steps Apartment is stunning. The location is bar none. This was our third stay at the property and would stay no where else on future visits. David is the consummate property owner and provides every bit of information a tourist would want when visiting The Eternal City. Thank you, David, for another wonderful trip and lasting memories.
The apartment is well located in center of Rome in a nice building. It is exceptionally well equipped and well documented, both for using the apartment and advice for almost any needs nearby. The owner and manager are very responsive. We look forward to our next stay.
Delightful holiday haven
David has taken a lot of care to make a traveller's roman holiday experience a delight. This was the first trip with our children and it felt like home away from home. The apartment was beautifully presented, comfortable, clean, organised and provided detailed instructions and information about how to use both its amenities but also local sites and attractions. The beautiful artwork and dozens of books on rome are special too! Everything is neatly labelled and includes board games for the kids, welcoming supply of coffee and other food supplies,. It was perfectly situated to enable us to walk to all the main sites, grocery stores around the corner and the air conditioning was great after the July heat. We definitely recommend David's apartment and hope to stay again on any future trips to Rome. Thanks David!!!
In the center of it all!
We arrived early in the morning to this beautiful, spacious apartment. The kitchen was stocked with everything that we needed. The AC was wonderful since we arrived during a heat wave. The apartment is truly within walking distance to all of the major sights. We walked to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, The Colosseum and museums. We took a short taxi ride to the Vatican. There are so many restaurants just feet away from this apartment. I can’t say enough about all the amenities within this apartment. The apt. manager brought bread, butter, ham, orange juice, water and wine upon our arrival. There are board games, movies, lots of guide books, an iPod full of music, a laptop with printer, umbrellas, yoga mats, and so much more. The owners have truly thought of everything that you might need. We loved staying here and hope to come back one day.
Comfort and Affordable Luxury Close to Rome's Best
An excellent place to stay for both getting around Rome and relaxing after a fun day (or night). Spanish Steps Apartment is close to so many sites, great restaurants, excellent drinking establishments, and, in general, the beauty of historic Rome. Especially for those who love to walk as the way to get to know a city, 30 minutes by foot gets you to the Colosseum, the Trastevere neighborhood for food and drink, St. Peter's in the Vatican, the beautiful Rome Zoo/Borghese Gallery, or even Termini train station. Closer in, even, are the Jewish Quarter, Piazza del Popolo, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona. The Spanish Steps, of course, and the Trevi Fountain are so close that you can easily pop out in the morning or late at night when the crowds there are thin and enjoy them quietly.
What I also loved about my stay is the ability relax and spread out after a day out and about. Nearby are two grocery stores so you can put together your own apertivo. The apartment comes with a nice bar so you can mix your own cocktails. And I also really enjoyed using the small but thoughtfully appointed kitchen to try my hand at making Roman dishes. It was no problem to put together a nice three-course meal of artichokes, spaghetti carbonara, and veal scaloppine--everything I needed was there. In particular, thanks to the owner for having sharp kitchen knives! This is not to be taken for granted at rental properties!
The photos really represent the apartment well--it is clean and modern. The beds, too, are very comfortable and you can definitely get a nice rest after a long day out.
Finally, I was very impressed with all the research and helpful tips. Books, binders, and even a tablet are loaded with info that helps you find great places to eat and drink or leads on tour guides, etc.
I would happily return here! Thanks to the owner for making this property such a lovely rental home!
In the heart of the historic center, between the beautiful Spanish Steps and the famous Trevi fountain, the apartment is within walking distance of many of Rome's most famous sights and surrounded by restaurants and world-class shopping. Walk to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Capitoline museums, and even the Vatican. Excellent access to metro, taxis, and bus stops, and a good supermarket is around the corner. All the wonders of Rome are within easy reach. The area is upscale and safe, perfect for the traditional evening stroll after a fabulous meal, while enjoying an unforgettable gelato!
