About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

You will begin your Mahana tropical experience when you open the front door! From our ocean front condo on the 11th of 12 floors, you will see windows that go from the floor to the ceiling, & wall to wall in the living room. The Pacific Ocean is right there! On closer inspection, you will see the islands of Lanai'i to the south, Molokai'i to the north, beach going north towards Honokowai or south towards Black Rock. The lanai is fully fronted on the Pacific Ocean with access from both the living area and the bedroom through large wall to wall, ceiling to floor sliding-glass lanai doors. In the bedroom, this allows for a total view of the ocean when you wake up! This gives you the guaranteed view! Now the second part of the Mahana experience is the sound! Open the lanai door (either one of them!), and hear the Pacific Ocean kiss the beach that is literally a stone's throw away! A true delight for your senses!

Although a complete remodel was finished in January of 2011, we make various upgrades each year to keep it at its Premium Level.

There is porcelain flooring throughout the entire unit with custom built-in cherry wood and granite cabinetry in the kitchen, the bathroom, and the living room, as well as custom soffit light features in kitchen and living area.

This is one of the few resorts that is on a sandy, swimming beach with DIRECT ocean front views and central A/C. The views are to die for, whether you are sitting in your living room, getting a snack in the kitchen, on your private lanai, swimming in the ocean, at the ocean-front pool, or relaxing in the hot tub!

At the Mahana you will experience an upscale boutique resort atmosphere on Ka'anapali's scenic North Beach, yet the quiet surroundings provide uncommon privacy. Breathtaking Pacific Ocean views, including the beautiful islands of Lanai'i to the south and Molokai'i to the north, seem to meet you at your living room floor to ceiling window. Each morning will start with this wondrous view as you gaze out your bedroom ceiling to floor window. From the lanai, you can enjoy many tropical sights and sounds as you enjoy your morning coffee or your sunset-watching libation. These glorious views are also your backdrop while enjoying the pool, and the pool area BBQ grills. Miles of open beach beckon you to snorkel among the pristine coral reefs, take a walk (or run!), or just lay back and soak up the sun – be sure to have the sunscreen handy! Shopping and dining are nearby, and the famous Whalers Village, with its eclectic blend of boutiques and memorabilia shops - there's even a whaler's museum - is just a short drive or walk away. With the Mahana's central location, golfers will enjoy the closeness to Kapalua and Ka'anapali's golf courses.

The restaurant 'Duke's Beach Grill' is just next door - a few minutes walking distance - serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with ocean front views! Or, you can take a short drive into historic Lahaina town for sightseeing - on land or sea - for restaurants that will satisfy a great number of tastes, and a selection of shops that will help you find that great reminder of your wonderful Maui vacation.

A boardwalk starts just outside the Mahana, and ends at the Hyatt Regency – about 3 miles away. It goes through Whalers Village in the heart of Ka'anapali. On this walkway, there are parks, water activity rental kiosks, and restaurants, so driving isn't a necessity for a myriad of activities.

FREE PARKING with NO RESORT FEES! With 24 hr. self-check-in! No waiting at the Front Desk! Keypad lock - no keys to carry or worry about.

About Judith Philipps

We came for a one-time Hawaiian vacation, fell in love with Maui and The Mahana, and decided to make it a permanent part of our lives! We call Cody, WY home, with all its beautiful mountain scenery and Yellowstone Park just an hour away, but the view of the Pacific from the comforts of our own chairs keeps calling us back! We love to travel, but a part of our winters will be spent in this wonderful condo on this most beautiful spot of Maui! We hope that you will love the experience, and deem it a delight to return to again and again!

Judith Philipps purchased this condo in 2010

Why Judith Philipps chose Maui

Maui has been voted “Best Island” by readers of Conde Nast Traveler for more than a dozen years. Maui has endless activities for vacationers, from fabulous beaches to fantastic dining and nightlife. Come see all that Maui has to offer!

Helicopter tours are an excellent way to take in the views of the whole island, including incredible waterfalls, sea cliffs and forests you would be hard pressed to view on foot. For those looking for closer views, you can take an ATV tour, or check out the Zip Lines at Kapalua or the West Maui mountains. Of course, there is the 'Road to Hana', but Hana is not the real objective. The road curves, the waterfalls, the incredible views of the ocean, the many bays (Nuaailua Bay at Keanae and Aunty Sandy's banana bread), or Waianapanapa State Park with its beautiful black sand beach are the main attractions. If you’re curious about what goes on above and/or under the waves, snorkeling or scuba tours are a great way to view the incredible variety of life that lives under the surface of the ocean. If you don’t want to get wet, there’s even a submarine that can take you into the deep while you view its mysteries from the comfort of a dry cabin. Of course, there is always a sunset cruise around the island for a very memorable evening! But the perfect ending to any day on Maui can be found right on your own private lanai - your 'Home-Away-From-Home", where you can kick off your shoes, and still see and hear the ocean! A Tropical Delight!

What makes this condo unique

The Mahana is unique in the fact that it is within feet of a beach, and has private lanais looking directly at the beach and the Pacific Ocean. Located on the northwest side of the island, it is at the north end of the wonderful Ka'anapali Beach. That means that all of the benefits of Ka'anapali Beach are within walking distance - great snorkeling, the Boardwalk, restaurants, and Whaler's Village - to name a few - but you are in a quieter, more relaxed setting. The Mahana is not far from Lahaina. Once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom in the early nineteenth century, Lahaina was also a historic whaling village during the whaling boom of the mid-1800’s. Today, the city blends its rich history with today's many modern activities creating a wonderful tropical paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Aloha Judith,

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely condo with us. From the moment that we walked in I knew that we had picked the perfect place to celebrate our 25 year wedding anniversary. The view from your lanai is absolutely stunning. Your condo provided everything that we needed to be comfortable and we felt at home away from home. The Mahana grounds are very nicely maintained and it is very very quiet. We enjoyed listening to the ocean at night with the breeze. We prepared some great dinners on the BBQ grills by the pool. Our favorite spot was Kahekili Beach Park just down the path. The coral reef there is perfect for snorkeling and your beach chairs were very comfortable! Thank you for a relaxing vacation. When we return to Maui we will for sure return to Mahana 1117.

Amazing Views!

  • 4 of 5

We were able to see whales and sea turtles from the deck. The sunsets were awesome. The bed was extremely comfortable. The unit was well supplied with most anything we needed,

though we didn't use the stove while there.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay and I would recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful Condo--Beyond Expectations

  • 5 of 5

This condo gave us a fabulous place to celebrate an anniversary and retirement. The view is even better than can be seen in the photos. The living area provided great views from inside through floor to ceiling windows and through the sliding glass doors that made the view from the balcony visible from inside. Sitting on the balcony was so beautiful it was difficult to leave for other activities. One evening we had a picnic on the balcony and took pictures of the sunset.

Every part of the condo was wonderful with plenty of room to relax. It was perfectly clean and thoughtfully well stocked with paper goods, etc. The building itself was also fabulous. Though the parking lot was full, the privacy was amazing. The unit was always quiet, we never had to wait for an elevator, and rarely saw other people. Even the of walkway from the elevator to the condo provided breathtaking views of the mountain of west Maui. The location is perfect. It is convenient to shopping, beaches, golf, and restaurants, but far enough away to be quiet. A minor problem with the television was fixed immediately. Everything is well maintained. It is obvious the owner cares about the comfort of her guests.

We loved our stay here, highly recommend it, and considered it a perfect place to stay.

Owner's Response: Mahalo nui loa for your wonderful words about 1117! I couldn't agree with you more on the views from the lanai - each day (and each part of the day!) brings a different experience - and it is hard to go anywhere else! I am glad that your anniversary/retirement celebration was more than you expected, and that the television situation was taken care of quickly - Leanna is a wonder on how quickly she takes care of almost any problem in the unit! Many thanks to her and her staff for their care! -- Judith

An amazing vacation! The view from the 11th floor NEVER gets old!

  • 5 of 5

All I can say about this unit is "WOW!" It is remarkable. It was a great place to have our nine-day vacation in Maui.

Our primary reason for coming back to Maui was to cheer on the Wisconsin Badgers at the Maui Invitational basketball tournament in Lahaina. It was everything I could have hoped for. The gym is so small and so intimate – I felt like I was on the court! While the games were great to watch, sitting in the gym between games watching shoot around from close range was very exciting, as well. On top of that, I met NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton (he calls games for ESPN), ESPN commentator Jay Bilas and the voice of the Badgers Matt Lepay while I was there. You can just tell that everyone is just so happy to be in Maui – all the people I met were very friendly. The Mahana was in a great location for going to the games at the Lahaina Civic Center, too. It was an easy five-minute drive. All in all, I couldn't have been happier with how my experience with the Maui Invitational went. An amazing experience I won't soon forget.

There was plenty of other great experiences while we were in Maui. I am an avid golfer, and the courses in Maui are unparalleled. My wife and I went to Kapalua's Plantation Course (about 10 minutes from the Mahana), and it was an absolute treat. This is the course the PGA Tour pros play in January, so it was awesome to (try) playing the same shots as them.

When we weren't watching basketball, golfing, hiking, snorkeling or shopping, the Mahana serves as a great home base. Such a relaxing place. On many nights, we stayed in for dinner and enjoyed the beautiful views from the lanai. We bought some steaks for one night and went to a local fish market on a couple other occasions. There are really nice grills on the property, and our unit had everything else we needed to grill out. Throw in the fact that within two minutes of dinner being done, you can be down walking on the beach, listening to the waves crash, it’s pretty amazing. If you want to just relax, this is the way to go!

I highly recommend anyone looking to come to Maui to stay at the Mahana 1117 unit. You can tell the owners take amazing care of it. Everything was so clean and so thoughtfully laid out. And did I mention the view? :) Thank you to Judith for sharing her condo, and to Leanna for making sure everything went smoothly.

Owner's Response: Mahalo nui loa, Mike! I'm very happy that your experiences on Maui were so good. Your time in 1117 was great news, and I'm excited about your information on the Maui Invitational - it sounds like a great basketball setting! No matter what you have planned for the day, it is really nice to come home to the tropical setting that you can see and hear on the lanai - the ocean with all the sea life, and the crash of the waves just below your balcony. It sounds like you were able to find a lot of things to do, and places to go that were located close to the Mahana. All in all, you were able to enjoy a variety of events and adventures. Again, mahalo. Judith

Spectacular condo!

  • 5 of 5

When my husband and I planned our trip to Maui, we did not hesitate to stay, once again, at this remarkable condo. Although we only had six days, every moment was incredibly spent in luxury. This condo has everything you could possibly imagine -- beautiful views and beaches, well-stocked -- especially the kitchen, and a lovely master and bath with a large walk-in shower. It is immaculate, current, and simply spectacular! Its ideal location allows for daily excursions, relaxing on the spotless beaches, or merely enjoying tea on your private deck while watching a pod of playful dolphins happen by. Due to the quiet location, I found myself easily writing the next chapter of my book with views of Lanai and Molokai before me and the crashing of the North Pacific below me. Any questions or concerns were both immediately and professionally addressed. If you're fortunate enough to book a vacancy, I personally would not hesitate. For this condo and location has truly been a cherished place for us -- and one we hope to return to again and again.

We loved this condo. Clean, well appointed, AMAZING views. Quiet, beautiful beach right out front, great snorkeling. We saw an octopus! Great location to shopping, restaurants. Loved the solar shades and tile floors. Bed was very comfy, shower was big and great to wash off the sand from a day at the beach. Cocktails and sunsets every night, amazing......

Owner's Response: Mahalo, Scott! I am very happy that your time at the Mahana was so nice. I try to make it a relaxing, tropical, home-away-from-home experience! One you'd love to come back to. An octopus - that is super! They are quite elusive, so to actually see one is a great treasure. Watching the ocean - above and in it - are one of my great joys! Morning can easily slip away while trying to catch a glimpse of whales (in season) dolphins, turtles, and/or flying fish! Aloha! Judith
