Architect wife, Real Estate agent husband, built this dream home after re-locating from Mill Valley, CA. with their 2 children. We bought the property because of the great views and the spectacular sunsets won our hearts.
Nina Le Baron, AIA purchased this house in 2004
This house was designed as our private residence.
Privacy, seclusion and spectacular sunsets. Very quiet location makes you feel you are away from it all. Roche Harbor is only ten minutes away for great waterfront activities and dining and grocery store. Enjoy wildlife viewing right out the window with bald eagles nesting in the trees out back and deer roaming daily. We would be happy to send you more photos of the interiors upon request.
Four couples came together for a Thanksgiving Family Reunion. This home was perfect for us. The location is very private with great outdoor space and water views. With two dishwashers, two sinks, and a professional stove/oven, the kitchen couldn't have been better to prepare a wonderful traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The large Sub-Zero has a refrigerator with plenty of room for groceries.
Can't say enough positive things about Beth & Gary, your property managers. They were extremely responsive and helpful.
As another reviewer noted, some additional instructions about how to work things around the house like the fireplaces, heating system and TV's would be helpful.
We had a fabulous time and your wonderful home had a lot to do with it.
Would absolutely recommend this property.
We stayed for a week in early October, the views and tranquility of this place were awesome. The house is about a 20 minute drive from Friday Harbor and isn't hard to find as long as you don't let my wife navigate. The architecture of the house is certainly as described, a modern and interesting blend of craftsman meets the orient. The layout with the two masters on different levels is nice for multiple families, as in our case we were traveling with friends, three small children, and a dog. We put the kids off in the upstairs wing of the house and took that master and let our friends have their privacy downstairs. The steam shower in the upstairs master was a nice feature. We found a few things around the great room that we needed to move out of reach from the kids but generally very family friendly, and the gated part of the yard down and around from the deck also makes the place dog friendly as other reviewers have noted. The kitchen and BBQ were pretty well stocked with basics and great for prepping meals for seven, although some non-stick pots and pans would have made cleanups easier. Our kids loved looking at the deer from the big window seat and all enjoyed curling up there with a cup of coffee or a book to enjoy the view. Bit of a bummer that there was no TV anywhere in the common space to catch a football game, but it seems to be by design and we didn't really miss it. Overall a great time, but as another reviewer noted, some additional instructions about how to work things around the house like the fireplaces and hot tub would have been helpful as it is a modern house with a lot of buttons and switches and we weren't able to figure those things out. The hot tub never heated up, however the management couple did offer to come out to help, but we decided we'd rather just spend time alone than having people at the house working on things. Cell phone and internet service was also spotty at best, but hopefully that's not why you go to the San Juans. Overall a great place to stay.
We celebrated three 5Oth birthdays during our stay. This property comfortably accommodated seven adults, allowing for both comfortable public space to share and private quarters in which to retreat. The kitchen is well appointed for summer cooking and dining on the deck while taking in the view of sunsets over Mitchell Bay was delightful.
Three families were together for our annual summer getaway. The Mitchell Bay property is so much more than a house. Six adults, one two year old toddler, and one two year old boxer had plenty of room to spread out, relax, enjoy daily walks to Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm, sun, and the beautiful view from the expansive window seat overlooking Mitchell Bay. This home radiates a beautiful energy. Amazing art is throughout the house and invites a closer look. With two dishwashers and two sinks, the kitchen was a dream to prep, cook, and clean up in. Evening dinners and bbqs on the west deck were fabulous. Must also mention the large Sub-Zero refrigerator-plenty of room for groceries! Our boxer Emmy loved the dog beds and water dishes. Her favorite spot was the large doggie bed under the kitchen counter. Thank you Nina and a big thank you to Beth & Gary, your extraordinary property managers.
Your beautifully designed home was perfect for our San Juan Island vacation.
I just wanted to let you know what a lovely home you have on Mitchell Bay! We all had a very relaxing and wonderful stay! Your home is beautifully decorated and the layout was perfect for just relaxing or entertaining! We had absolutely everything we needed to prepare and enjoy meals in the amazing kitchen since we like to cook and eat most of our meals at home. We couldn't have asked for anything more, it was all fabulous. Hopefully we can do it again next year!
We just returned from an extraordinary trip to the San Juan Islands. What made it so special was this fabulous house and it's incredible location on Mitchell Bay. Every morning we would greet the family of deer that came into the back yard off the deck. When we weren't lounging on the deck, we were enjoying the restaurant equipped kitchen, large enough for 8 chefs! The Master Suite was truly a highlight, as well. This is a keeper for next year!
We are located at the backside of Mitchell Bay facing West for Beautiful sunsets on the private deck. A short walk down a path leads to the bank of Mitchell Bay- great for clamming or picnicking. Enjoy a nap in the hammock by the fire pit up by the house. Nature galore with bald eagles in the surrounding trees, deer wandering through on a daily basis and lots of bird life. We are close to English Camp, Mount Young, 350 acres of open space trails on Mitchell Hill. Roche Harbor is a 5 minute drive with a Spa, shops, artisan booths, 3 restaurants and a grocery store. The Roche Harbor Marina has kayak rentals, and bike/moped rentals with Suzie's Mopeds. An Alpaca farm and country store is also down the street. Friday Harbor is a 15 minute drive away. The closest Public Beaches with 'sand' are Jackson's Beach, and at American Camp (the biggest). Watch whales from the shore at the County Park- great for picnicking at sunset too! Most of our shoreline is rocky (we call our island the ROCK), so there are not many private sandy beaches. Enjoy the best of the Pacific Northwest here!
