My wife and I are free lance artists. I am a musician and she is a designer of beach towels. We built this cabin ourselves and put our heart and soul into it. Every detail, down to the bookshelves was done by hand. We travel for work often. The rental of the cabin is our supplemental income. We have two children who have grown up here and it was an ideal childhood environment. We hope you enjoy it.
George purchased this cabin in 2005
The perfect distance away from NYC. The way the property is situated near enough to a local village and far enough into the woods is just right. Also the fact that the stream and pond is here is a big plus for us.
Privacy, the pond, living next to nature, our garden, the frogs at dusk in springtime, cross country skiing or hiking trails..the list is too long.
We had a wonderful couple days with extended family in George and Katy's lovely house. The surrounding mountains were covered in a lovely mist in the mornings as we enjoyed coffee on the deck of the guest house. All ages had a good time here, including teens playing badminton and canoeing around in the small pond, some seniors who were having some mobility problems, and all in-between who congregated in the large living room (10 easily gathering in a conversation circle) for evenings catching up with relatives. Our family of 4 slept in their unique guest house (a cabin with large screened porch surrounding a "vintage" travel trailer). The beds in the trailer were very comfortable and with all the windows it was just like sleeping out, minus mosquitoes!
George was very helpful and available in case we had any questions or problems. There was plenty to do in the area - hikes, villages, coffee shops, museums, etc.
My only complaint is that the morning sun shone on the pond but not the house, and then the hot afternoon sun shone on the porch! (I'm sure this is a huge plus in the winter, but not in the summer!)
So, George and Katy, if you could only turn your house 180 degrees it would have been perfect! (Maybe on a lazy susan?)
We will definitely be back and I would recommend this house to anyone, larger groups especially.
Firstly I would like to thank George and Katy for letting us rent this beautiful cabin. We had one of our best weekend here. Everything about this place was awesome. The place itself relaxes your mind and soul . It was so peaceful and relaxing. It was away from the city yet had all the necessities like free wifi , a fully equipped kitchen , a pond , bbq pit , Netflix account , clean bathrooms and rooms.
I loved the welcome that Katy setup for us by stacking up cold beers in the fridge for us to enjoy. ( thanks Katy ).The one thing i liked the most was that there was no disturbance at all from the neighbors and we had full privacy.
Thank you once again and we will see you soon.
My experience started with an email. George responds to me quickly and we start a conversation. Super friendly, funny and completely thorough with his description of the place. Everything was handled professionally and I never felt like I was just another customer. We pull up to the property and Katy greets us. Shows us around the house, explains how to use the fire stove (which might be the most amazing invention ever) and tells us a little about the surrounding towns for dinner, drinks and breakfast.
The pictures posted do not do it justice. The house is a true log cabin. Real trees make up the walls. The fresh air was amazing. I cannot rave about this property enough. We were three kids under 7 and 6 adults who were all comfortable. And there was room for another couple if need be. The fees were beyond reasonable and the actual rental price was extremely fair. I never ran out of wood and we were there on a cold weekend. George and Katy, thank you so much for allowing us into your home. We look forward to spending some time there again.
Thank you, George, Katy, and family for a wonderful stay at your beautiful cabin. We enjoyed the quiet and the beautiful view over the pond, as well as the BBQ and fire pit (an easy walk to the other side of the pond.) Working out payment was easy and my deposit was refunded promptly after we left. Thank you, again, and I hope we can visit in the future.
My friends and I had a wonderful weekend in this lovely cabin. It is absolutely charming and intimate yet still comfortably accommodated our group of 8. Loved the smell and the warmth of the wood burning stove. The porch is perfect for sitting with coffee and looking out onto the surroundings. Inside, the property is well-maintained and cozy. There was clearly a lot of thought put into the construction of the home, in the way that it perfectly overlooks the pond, and the arrangement of the furnishings. We didn't do too much exploring -- a little hiking and some grocery shopping (there are stores reasonably close by). The area was beautiful, though. I will say that the beds were not the most comfortable we've ever slept on, but that hardly mattered in the grand scheme of things.
My family and I loved this cabin. It's secluded enough that you have quiet and privacy, yet close enough to main roads and town that it's accessable. The wood stove is awesome and heats the house increadibly. The cabin and property were clean and well maintained and just as advertised. George was very helpful with details and tips about the area. Would recomend it and look forward to returning.
We are near Howe's Caverns, where you can explore caves or go zip lining, We have several horseback riding facilities close by. As well, farmers markets and organic farms that sell to the public are all around. Behind the property is state land for hunting and hiking. Our family loves to explore the near by waterfalls in the summer and the many cross country skiing trails in the area in winter.
