We love this place!! My husband & I (we are in our 50’s), and our daughter and son (ages 29 & 24), stayed at Villa Cherimoya for 8 nights, December 18-26, 2015. When we arrived there was beer, fresh guacamole & salsa in the fridge and fresh cut flowers in the living room. Jose met us at the house the first day to give us a walk through and explain how everything worked. He came by every morning to clean the pool, and to take care of anything else that was needed. It was nice to know we had someone to go to for help if we needed it. We were usually gone when the housekeeper came, but it was nice coming home to a clean kitchen and made up beds. The owners were responsive and very helpful before our arrival, and asked Jose to arrange our transportation to and from the airport.
We were very comfortable in the house. It’s beautiful, clean, well kept and very open and light. We never turned on the air conditioners (in the bedrooms), just opened the windows and turned on the fans at night. When you’re on the balcony it almost feels like you’re in the middle of the jungle (even though there are other houses around), because you can just see a few palapa rooftops and lots of foliage. In the evening you can faintly hear the waves hitting the beach. We had the windows/sliding doors of the living room open anytime we were home and there were surprisingly very few bugs. The birds are a little loud in the morning, but added to the tropical feel.
So many things at this house made life convenient, like having purified water and our own washer & dryer. We sort of forgot about the whole “don’t drink the water” thing, just filled our water bottles before going out. The house is fenced all around, with a locked gate at the front. We felt very safe there and in town. We didn’t have a car or golf cart, walked everywhere, any time, day or night and always felt safe. There were plenty of places to eat, we actually didn’t have enough days there to try all the places we wanted.
Sayulita is a laid back little beach town. Most of the roads are cobblestone or dirt and some were a little muddy when we were there. Don’t expect a resort town with lots of amenities, because it isn’t. But it’s great and the people there are wonderful. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. We had a very relaxed vacation and look forward to coming back. We would definitely stay at Villa Cherimoya again and highly recommend it. We have no complaints. We had a wonderful time there!
The photos of Villa Cherimoya caught my eye right away when searching for a vacation home in Sayulita. In person, this home is even more beautiful than it looks, both inside and out. The modern tropical architectural and interior design are first-rate, and spotlessly maintained. The little things really added up. When we arrived, I found four ice-cold Pacificos in the 'fridge, along with freshly-made guacamole and pico de gallo. Fresh-cut flowers in the living room. Outside becomes inside, from the open tiled showers to the sliding exterior walls. This home was an oasis for our family of four during a busy wedding week this January in Sayulita; both daughters (ages 12 and 17) loved Villa Cherimoya. Wedding guests who visited us were all uniformly impressed (and jealous of our find!) Truly the nicest vacation rental experience we have every had!
My husband and I recently stayed at Villa Cherimoya for a week. The villa exceeded our expectations and is even lovelier than the photos.
It is beautifully decorated; spotlessly clean; has wonderful decks; and is located within easy walking distance of the beach, the center of town, and many restaurants.
We were delighted to discover homemade guacamole and salsa, plus tacos and cold beer in the refrigerator upon our arrival.
The owners are courteous and professional and provided us with lots of helpful information, both before our arrival and in the villa itself.
We highly recommend Villa Cherimoya to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay while visiting Sayulita.
We stayed at villa cherimoya for one week over Christmas 2014. The house is amazing in every way. Open floor plan, modern and clean, tastefully decorated without a lot of unnecessary clutter, fully stocked kitchen, and two large master suites.
The salt water pool just steps from the living room couch, was the cherry on the top. Our kids who were three and six, swam in the pool at least four times a day. The landscaping is Impeccable and the property itself stands on a steep hill which also accomodates another house, all enclosed inside a private gate. Right next door to the property is a very large building which I think houses several condos. They are close enough where you can hear them, especially if a teenager is blasting music ( which was turned down as soon as we asked).
We rent a VRBO most often becasue we like to cook for ourselves. This home has an adequate kitchen, but the stove is very small, almost seeming like the size of a miniature stove. Not a problem for us. The problem was trying to find good food to cook. The town of Sayulita is a typical third world country town. Very very poor and dirty. No real meat or fish market to speak of. The meat and fish we purchased were frozen and re thawed several times over and they tasted as such. We couldn't find fresh fish for the life of us, and I scoured the whole town looking for good fresh food for my family.
There is no real grocery store either, so make sure you either stock up on the way there from the airport, or have a car available so you can travel a half hour to buccairias.
We didn't find one good restaurnt either. Granted we have high standards when it comes to food. Every one in our family actually lost weight while on Christmas vacation, which wasnt such a bad thing ( wink)
My husband did contract ecoli.....aka travelers diahreah. He lucked out and lost 10 pounds. The locals told us it was becasue of swimming at the beach. The local sewer system does dump right into the ocean near where most people swim. So just be careful.
The only negative I have to mention is Jose the house guy. We thought he was very kind and helpful and nice, but we don't particlarly like someone coming into the house every single day, without knocking and invading our private space. We would have just preferred to not be bothered and to be left alone for our stay. We also declined maid service for the very same reason. We simply like privacy.
My stay at Villa Cherimoya was wonderful!
Villa Cherimoya is on the quiet end of town in Sayulita - so a very peaceful place to relax and recharge but only a 5 minute walk to the beach and a 10 minute walk to town and all the wonderful restaurants and shops. It’s a perfect location.
The Villa itself is beautiful. The grounds are exquisitely landscaped and maintained. The owners obviously have very good taste - the interior is very nicely decorated. The design of the house is perfect – good size bedrooms and the bathrooms are really cool. The living room and dining rooms open onto a large deck with a pool! The kitchen is well appointed – we had most breakfasts in and lunches too! So if you like to cook – you’re in luck!
The owners have thought of everything – you can arrange for transportation to and from the airport when you make your reservations. And it is so nice to have someone meet you at the airport after having traveled all day (and drive you to a really nice grocery store on the way to Sayulita)
The Villa really has some special features:
• There is a wonderful outside living area - we had coffee every morning outside under the palapa – and had our cocktails there as well.
• The deck is large and perfect for sitting in the sun (or the cool shade) – accommodated all in our party.
• The pool is long enough to do a little swimming and so nice to take a dip in after a hard day at the beach.
• The Villa is meticulously kept up with daily cleaning by Iris and Jose keeps everything in working order.
• AND the Villa has a state of the art water purification system – no fear of drinking the water when you stay here!
This is really a wonderful place to stay – I HIGHLY recommend it.
My boyfriend and I come to Sayulita every year and each year we rent a different house on VRBO. I have to admit... This was my favorite house of all time! It was just us and another couple and Villa Cherimoya was perfect! There was plenty of room and we had everything we needed right there. The booking process was excellent, Jose was gracious and always asked us if we needed anything and the house itself was beautiful. The flat walk to town was super easy as well. I would stay there again in a heartbeat! Thank you!
