About Tom and Lucinda

We live in Miami, Fl but we love the mountains and the friendly people in Tennessee. Tom grew up in in Switzerland and Lucinda grew up in New York state. Together we have traveled to many countries for hiking and beach vacations but the Smoky Mountains and the Florida Panhandle are top on our list. We enjoy all the outdoor activities that both areas offers and the warmth of smaller town living!

Tom and Lucinda purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Tom and Lucinda chose Tennessee

We chose the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area for a number of reasons. It offers great recreational activities year round. It has something for everyone- from kids to seniors. You are close to everything but still feel like you are far away. The area has wonderful scenery, national parks, mild weather and friendly people. Plus the area is centrally located and easy to get to from many states. You can return to Eastern TN year after year and still find new things to do!

What makes this cabin unique

You will enjoy the closeness to Cades Cove, Smoky Mountain Park, Dollywood, shopping, all activities, restaurants and other attractions. In addition, when you are in the cabin, you will feel like you are a million miles away from it all! This really is a bit of paradise!

Guestbook comments from the owner

After such a tragic beginning - the first cabin we rented burned to the foundation - we were offered a stay at the owner's luxury 6 bdrm cabin and it was definitely luxury! The view was incredible and nothing was left to the imagination as the cabin was amply stocked for a huge crowd. My brother and his wife joined us and we accomplished our 'mission' and learned where we do and where we do not want to live, although with shortcuts to avoid tourists! I could not be more grateful to Tom and Lucinda who made our 50th anniversary and my 74th birthday celebrations possible.

Wonderful spring break.

  • 5 of 5

My family of 11 enjoyed the spacious area of this house. This has been our 4th visit to Gatlinburg, 3 of those we have rented this house. There have been several upgrades every time we come and we were so glad this year that this house was spared from the fire. The view of the mountains is wonderful and I could sit for hours watching the mountains change. Our 11 consists of ages 1 3/4 - 71. That includes a couple of teens. We sat at the table and played card games at night and for breakfast we sat at the same table and watched the mountains change. It is close to downtown Gatlinburg - which we feel has changed for the worse, the craft loop - which is very interesting, and Pigeon Forge. We also visited the Aquarium, Tuckaleechee Cave, into the Park to wander some trails. Our youngest children called the house "Our Adventure House."

It has been a good and relaxing week, and everyone is very reluctant to leave to go back to reality. Tom and Lucinda are perfect hosts and when we return to the Gatlinburg area, we will definitely try to reserve this house.

Owner's Response: Hello Cynthia Thank you for staying once again at Smoky Mountain High and for making it your home away from home! We appreciate that you noticed the upgrades. As with any home, upgrades are a part of life! We try to make the cabin comfortable for all our guests and provide amenities that they will enjoy. We are thankful that Smoky Mountain High and Mountain View Retreat were spared during the fires. We sad that we lost All About View but we know it could have been worse. We hope that you will consider staying at Smoky Mountain High again in the future (or one of our other homes in FL & TN). It is always a pleasure having you stay at our cabin! Warmest regards, Tom and Lucinda

Owner's Response: Hello Elisabeth We would love to welcome you back next year. Every year we update appliances or do other improvements at the cabin. Just before your arrival we had the kitchen cabinets sanded and re stained as well as the stairs. We do our best to maintain a high standard. The one thing we can not change - the unobstructed views of the Mount Le Conte and the Smoky Mountains..... Thank you for staying with us Tom + Lucinda

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at Smoky Mountain High. We are glad that tourists keep coming to the area - as you saw - there is no sign of any of the recent fires in the area of the cabin and Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are still in full swing and your support by visiting is appreciated. We are thankful that Smoky Mountain High was not affected - we did loose our 3 bedroom cabin in Pigeon Forge to the fires unfortunately. Tom + Lucinda

A breath of fresh air!

  • 5 of 5

After our original cabin burned and the company we were using cancelled our reservation and booked another group we were in a panic that our trip may not happen. That's when I came across Smoky Mountain High and I'm so happy I did! The cabin was beautiful, the view is amazing, and I spoke with Lucinda on the phone a couple of times and she was so kind and helpful! The group who stayed before us left a note about the cable on two tvs on the lower level not working, but between the hot tub, pool table, Pacman, games and puzzles we were too busy to watch tv anyway! I hope we can return to this cabin next year!

Owner's Response: Hello Lauren We are so happy that we were able to accommodate you and that you enjoyed Smoky Mountain High. We agree that the views of Mount Leconte are amazing from all 3 decks as well as from most rooms in the cabin. Thank you for coming to the area. As you saw, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are doing great after the fires. In many areas (like when you are at our cabin), you do not even notice that there was a fire. The Smoky Mountains are still as beautiful (and fun) as ever!! Even though there is so much to do in the cabin, we still want all of the 8 TVs to work. Once we knew about it, it was an easy fix with Comcast sending a signal to the boxes. We appreciate you taking care of our cabin and hope that you will return to one of our TN cabins in Gatlinburg or houses on St. George Island, FL. All the best, Tom and Lucinda
