Built in 1780, The Priory is a truly unique piece of property built by the local Lord Kenmare for a French aristocrat fleeing the French Revolution. Inundated with old world character, this property of the O'Donoghue Family is a place of welcome, comfort and intense charm.
Set on the door step of Killarney National Park we have two Courtyard Stone Cottages all of various design and layout. The cottages are tucked into a very beautiful and quite walled courtyard setting.
The Loft and Coachhouse cottages were meticulously restored between 2004 and 2006 and will offer you a retreat in style and comfort.
So if you are interested in hiking, biking, golfing, shopping or want to take a cooking class all this can be arranged. Killarney town centre is 1 km or a 10 minute stroll, in the opposite direction over the river you are immediately upon a pedestrian way snaking its way 2km into Killarney's 11,000 acre National Park, Muckross House & Gardens. A 5 minute walk to the INEC. Ask about mid-season specials.

Bernadette and Tim O’Donoghue met in The Windy City of Chicago a few years back. We acquired the property in 2002. We then returned from Chicago in 2004.
Bernadette was a paralegal secretary and is now a stay at home Mom and an excellent baker, I am an electrician by trade but got into construction during my 14 years in Chicago. I restored several old houses and classic vintage apartment buildings during my time there. I coupled this experience with Bernadette’s keen eye and interior design savvy to create some wonderful finishes and unusual touches. We began the colossal rehab project in 2004 to restore the Priory to its former glory ,it was basically completed it in 2007 or is it ever complete I like to ask myself ?
We pride ourselves in welcoming you into our place.
Tim purchased this cottage in 2002
I grew up in Killarney, where my parents owned a camping site and I truly loved meeting visitors on a daily basis. We have 4 children and we wanted to raise them here in Ireland, so we said we would give it a shot and here we are. When this property became available we realized how unique it was and what a fantastic opportunity it would be to own The Priory.
We are in a key location,a ten minute walk from town but it feels like we are in the heart of the countryside where you cannot hear a sound by night.
You will get a quiet private house to yourself where you can come and go as you please. You can cook when you want and have the full use of the 1.5 acre property on private grounds. You can sit back and relax in the front of the open hearth fire sipping a nice Irish whiskey or reading a good book with the sweet smell of turf burning away.
Each cottage has a Jacuzzi you can slip into and soothe the soul after a hectic day.
You will get the real feel of Irish living and live like we live ourselves while visiting in your home away from home.
We are on site owners who are here to help you in any way you require and assure a wonderful stay. We have invaluable knowledge about the local area from cultural information to hikes, local food joints to off the beaten track drives. We can organize in-house chef, or poetry recital or to a music session.
We like to tell our guests ''We are as near or as far as you wish.'
We had the best time as well and cannot imagine having stayed anywhere else. I need not reiterate what I told you both but the vacation truly came together in your kitchen. Thank You
We stayed with another couple at the Priory for 5 nights. The accommodations were very comfortable and relaxing. Even better, Tim's personal recommendations for places to go and to see around Killarney were especially welcome and beneficial - especially the Gap of Dunloe tour with pony and trap and then 14 mile boat excursion on the 2 lakes and 3 rivers of Killarney National Park. Tim's wife and daughter were also very helpful when I need to find a medical clinic to treat the bronchitis I had developed. A very warm and comfortable property and an even more welcome by Tim and his family!
We had the pleasure of staying at the loft while in the Killarney area this past September/October. Beautiful, clean, comfortable, full size kitchen with great coffee maker. The steam shower was sooooo nice after a long day of hiking. Only downside was the breaker kept blowing when we tried to use the dryer. This place was more than we expected in a VRBO. Within easy walking distance to lots of pubs and eateries.
This summer my family and I had the pleasure to stay for a number of days at the Loft,of the Priory. After camping for two and a half weeks, coming to the Priory was a real treat. What you can never read from the website is the calm atmosphere, the perfect state of the house and the garden, the feeling you are at home when you enter the driveway. Tim and Bernadette have created something exceptional. The first day we were astonished by the space, inside and around the house. In the kitchen you find everything you can think of, then there was the washing machine, the dryer , and the dishwasher, and no need to go looking for detergent. Then you find out that the bath is something like a jacuzzi, and the shower encompasses a steam bath. Then we discovered a drawer stacked with information about things to do, maps etc, and games.
Our days were filled with shopping, walking in the national park, horsebackriding, and playing golf at Killarney Pitch and Putt, all within 15 min driving distance. We often went out for dinner at one of the hotels on the lakefront, and ended every day in front of the fireplace at the Loft, with a good glass of wine. The loft is the holiday retreat we can really recommend, Even our dog was fully at peace amongst the housedogs.
For a week in July, my family and I stayed in the Loft, at the Priory in Killarney. It was more than we could imagine. The photos on line are good, but do not do it justice. This home was huge! We brought our two adult children with us and there was plenty of room to spread out. The house is only a short walk to town and very close to one end of the "Ring of Kerry" drive. Tim and Bernadette were gracious hosts; very attentive to any need we had, with lots of great suggestions. We took advantage of all that the southwest of Ireland has to offer and barely had to drive to do it.
My son and I golfed at a course that was very close to the Loft, and there are many more courses to be explored here. My wife and daughter explored ALL the shopping in Killarney and still didn't see everything.
When we come back to Ireland (and we will), we WILL stay here again. I recommend this property MOST HIGHLY. Quiet, Convenient, Beautiful, and more than a great price...and the dogs were really cute!
We just returned from our stay at The Loft. We loved every minute of our visit. Tim and Bernadette were helpful and friendly hosts. Bernadette had some great restaurant recommendations. The location of the Priory is beautiful, quiet, private, yet convenient to everything. We walked into town each evening (about10-15 mins), and took a cab back. They are easily accessible in front of Killarney Towers. Coming back to the beautiful Loft was so wonderful. We had room to relax and enjoy each other's company. The beds are comfortable, and the showers have great water pressure. It's great having a full kitchen and laundry. This beautiful place feels like home, yet has a magical feeling of times gone by. The only negative is that we had to leave! Do not hesitate to book your stay right away.
My wife and our 3 adult/teen children stayed at The Loft for a little over a week and did day trips to the Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Bantry, Killarney National Park, and other destinations. It was PERFECT for the 5 of us. The fully equipped kitchen enabled us to prepare a hearty breakfast before we ventured out and to keep snacks on hand for the evening. We were usually gone the entire day, then enjoyed the peat fire and the spacious living room when we returned. Large bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms made our stay very convenient and comfortable. The Loft felt quiet and secluded, but was actually close to Killarney's restaurants and pubs and to the roads to the tourist destinations, so navigation was simple. Our hosts (Tim and Bernadette O'Donoghue) recommended some excellent bakeries, restaurants, and routes which made our stay that much more enjoyable. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Loft.
