Fuente de Hierro is the name of the farm whose trees are one hundred years old. Even the Arabs stopped here on their journey from the coast to the Granada mountain range to collect water. During your stay on the farm, you will be able to enjoy two 150 m² habitable spaces, equipped with underfloor heating and a climate control system. Depending on the sun, choose a place between the south, the east, or the west with a roof terrace, pool or barbecue. The top floor can also be rented (5P). You can access the ground floor from the large car park, as well as from the dining room, living room and southern terrace. All of the doors and closets in the kitchen were made by a carpenter from Vélez-Málaga for the Finca Fuente de Hierro . The farm is full of natural earth colours. The walls have been cleaned to give them a touch of rustic style, as they were originally. You will always be the only guest.

About the property

Marico, Fuente de Hierro

Finca Marico and Finca Fuente de Hierro are two villas independent from one another, each with their own private pool (200 m from each other). You will always be the only guest. The pool is 10 m x 4 m with interior lighting. Swimming at night is an unforgettable experience, in which you can see the flickering stars. The romantic Finca Marico is located on a 3.5 hectare plot of land with an Andalusian style that sleeps two to seven people. Through a 150 m path (lighted) from the house, you will arrive at the private car park, which is sheltered by eucalyptus and cypress trees; it is not visible from outside. You will have a 40 m2 pool available (only for you, illuminated), as well as a washer, a dishwasher, bed linens, towels, a kitchen with four gas burners, an electric oven, an oven, a microwave, a granite worktop, complete equipment; all without additional costs.

Finca Marico combines an outdoor Mediterranean life with bourgeois comfort. The buildings are located on the south side, connected by terraces, gardens and a pavilion with vineyards. Finca Fuente de Hierro (about 2000 m²) is located at an altitude of 790 metres and has two floors. The ground floor is 150 m2 and the first floor is 140 m2. You will always be the only guest, and you can bring from 10-15 people maximum to enjoy your holiday. In the spacious and diverse terraces, you can retire as you like and enjoy the peace, or gather with other family or group members to socialize. The pool at Finca Fuente de Hierro is 9 x 4 metres, with interior lighting and heating. You will also have available a counter current system. The Finca Fuente de Hierro, as well as Finca Marico, are equipped with air conditioning. Especially for the in-between season and the winter months, the underfloor heating system is very delightful. This is powered mostly by the sun through thermal solar panels. The house includes bed linen and towels. The two kitchens are fully equipped. The washers include powder detergent and guests with children appreciate them greatly for washing clothes, so they are fresh the next day, which lightens their luggage.

Sierra de Almijarra / de Tejeda natural park offers hiking routes (maps are available in the living room) and Baviera Golf offers golf on the coast. This is the ideal place to be for your holiday, whether alone or in a group, and for the most demanding. Here, you will find peace and relaxation being the only guests. Our beloved administrator, Alejo, will attend to you. In all of the washbasins there are soap dispensers with pH balanced soap. There are also soap dispensers in the shower full of pH balanced aloe vera shower gel.

Finca Marico and Finca Fuente de Hierro s feature a high-speed internet connection and Wi-Fi. The telephone is a VoIP telephone with a simple mode of operation. Calls from Germany are a very low cost (and normal price for local calls). You will also have the option to call German fixed lines for 2 cents a minute. German wireless calls cost 17 cents a minute.


You can travel in car or a plane by flying directly into Malaga and later by renting a car at the airport. You will be able to find detailed information in the brochure and the information folder that we, with much pleasure, will send you. Our administrator will welcome you and show you the finca. If your arrival is delayed, the administrator will be waiting, and if you arrive during the night, everything will be lit up and open. The administrator will go the next morning. He will be present on the finca for a few hours, depending on the weather, various times per week to water the plants, clean the pool and to tend the garden. Cheap flights are found through Ryanair, Condor, Airberlin, TUIfly, Easy Jet, GermanWings, Lufthansa, and Iberia.

Granada (Alhambra) is 2.5 hours away; Seville is 3.5 hours away; Ronda is 3 hours away, Cordoba is 2.5 hours away; Toledo is 5 hours away, Gibraltar is 3 hours away. From Algeciras, it is 3 hours to Ceuta or Morocco. La Axarquía (Rincón de la Victoria until Nerja) has the most temperate climate in Europe. The location between the sea and the mountains creates a constant temperature that allows the cultivation of olives, almonds, wine, persimmons, avocados, sugar cane, mangos and papayas.

Why Ralf Hansen chose Axarquia (Costa del Sol)

Since I was born in a similar Mediterranean climate in Ciudad del Cabo where I lived until I was 8 years old, here, in northern Germany, we missed the delightful Mediterranean weather. Where could you find a better place than Andalusia to build a Mediterranean house? The delightful climate, the stunning landscape, and the plants and flowers on the hillsides of the mountains have captured us. The air is so fresh and the silence is deafening. I, myself, can recuperate completely from the intense professional world, in a short time in this refuge. I can recuperate my strength and compensate it with work in the countryside, the house and technology. I invest a large part of my time on the maintenance and development of both villas, which I simply enjoy, as well as to see how my flowers and trees grow. As every year, I am still able to improve the houses and facilities, as well as figure out how I can integrate the latest modern technology in those facilities. Why not control the plant watering by iPhone? Watering takes a lot of time to complete and the systems (pumps, hoses, valves, relays, regulations) should function in a way that every plant obtains a guaranteed amount of water, especially during the summer months. Therefore, there we were, 20 years ago, with friends on the balcony, looking down towards the valley and we thought, how lovely would it be to automatise everything? We passed the thought off as something utopic and dreamlike. Now it is possible - amazing, right? Often, nights are more than you expect, since there is so much to tell underneath the stars. Because, with a good red wine, manchego cheese cut into slices and stars, no one will want to go to bed early. I also sleep better in my house on the farm. A huge breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice gives good luck to the start of the day for everyone! Discover for yourself, the beauty of this royal, enchanting oasis.

What makes this house unique

The view towards the south of the valley, to this extent of the Mediterranean, on clear days without humidity (evaporation) allows you to see Africa, and the Rif mountain range across the sea. It is better than television! You will have the option to go on daily hikes through the mountain range. Behind the gate, to the left, and after 500 metres, you will be in the natural park and entering the mountains. Be it through sinuous hikes or through hikes accompanied with wooded trees (Incona, State) you will be able to arrive at 1800 m or even more, above Maroma. You can walk for hours, always discovering something new. When I return to the finca, this created idyll delights me. I often do not wish to go far because there is always something to do in the house: read, write, water, plant, prune, replace, renovate and improve things. I like when everything goes as planned and is in order. After a few days on the finca, when I need to get out, I also go on excursions and there is much to choose. Between five to fifteen kilometres there are beautiful, tiny villages with Arab influence (for example, the village completely destroyed in the Civil War and newly constructed in 2005, Acebuchal, which is reached across from a river). For full-day excursions, you can follow the Seneca Route, the Romans and the Arabs. All in the course of one day! Including Gibraltar Tarifa, Ronda, Malaga, Cordoba, Granada, Alhama de Granada, the Alpujarras, Almería y Nerja. Oh, there is so much to say and tell and not enough space here! After work, why not go to Nerja for a coffee and cake in the afternoon, or to the huge Venetian ice cream parlour (the others are not so good), followed by a visit to the Balcón de Europa, a mile away. Alternatively, you could simply eat outside. Therefore, you can recover peace through different means.

  • The ample bathrooms are tiled to the ceiling with beautiful northern Spain tiles. The shower area contains mosaic style tiles, which have very little height difference from the entrance. Only a little wave of tiles separate the shower area from the bathroom. The floor heats during the winter and during the in-between season, it is kept at a temperature enjoyable and warm in accordance with the weather. The spacious bedrooms have air conditioning that can be adjusted with a remote control. You will have a VoIP telephone available, in which minutes will be billed separately. German landline calls are toll free and you will also be able to receive calls from German landlines. In each bedroom (first floor) there will be internet plugs. The master bedroom (ground floor) has a DVD player and television. In the bedroom that leads to the garden (ground floor), you will find a television.

  • The bedrooms (as well as all the house, ground floor, upper floor) can be maintained fresh individually in summer because air conditioning is available in the four big rooms. You will have the option to adjust the air-conditioning with a remote control. We provide sheets and towels. Free washer use is provided. You can easily wash towels, bathroom linen and your children´s clothing when you wish. Free washing powder for two washes is provided. You will be able to dry clothes on easily collapsible drying racks (2) on the terrace. The racks, as well as the iron and ironing table are found in the storage closet (access from the outside) behind the ground-floor kitchen.

You will find a radio and CD sound system in the living room. Both bedrooms have satellite TV. There is pleasant reading available alongside of the fireplace. Do you like to play music? There is a piano available for playing. Both bedrooms (ground floor and upper floor) feature a private bathroom and face towards the east. One can start the day with sun and summer and the bedrooms stay cool. Both bedrooms (ground floor) contain built in wardrobes with drawers and a hanging bar. In the upper part, suitcases and other large articles may be placed. The entire house has automatically controlled underfloor heating. It heats and maintains a comfortable temperature of about 22 °C (the bedrooms are cooler, while the bathrooms are warmer). The heating system is powered by a thermic solar energy system and on cloudy days, by an auxiliary heater. If the outside temperature exceeds the inside temperature, the heating system automatically disconnects.

Fantastyczne miejsce na cudowny odpoczynek

Szczerze polecamy Finca Fuente de Hierro na wakacyjny odpoczynek. Dom jest bardzo wygodny dla dwóch rodzin lub większej grupy znajomych, wyposażenie jest idealne, wiele drobiazgów kuchennych, wszystko co jest potrzebne do codziennego życia. Każda sypialnia ma klimatyzacje, bezwględnie konieczna w tym klimacie zwłaszcza latem. Dom jest położony okolo 800 n.p.m i dzięki temu nawet w gorące dni upał nie jest odczuwalny. Dodatkowo jego położenie jest idealne dla osób ceniących ciszę i spokój ( około 50 m powyżej jest granica Parku Narodowego) a także dla tych, którzy lubią klimaty prawdziwego życia, co mozna doświadczyć w licznych otaczających "Pueblas blancas" Canillas de Abaida, Competa, Archez, Salares z uroczymi knajpkami, serdecznymi mieszkańcami i fiestami. Dla tych co szukają ochłody w morzu blisko jest do jednej z najładniejszych płaz w okolicach Nerji czy do tez potoku Rio Chillar. Około 1,5 -2 godzin do Granady, 2-3 do Sevilli, Cordoby czy Giblartaru. Ralf jest bardzo sympatycznym właścicielem, otwartym i serdecznym. Rozmowa z nim była przyjemnością, gdyz zawsze chciał "przychylić nieba". Chcielibyśmy jeszcze kiedyś spędzić wakacje w tym niesamowitym miejscu.

Fantastic Location - superb villa - helpful owner

This is a fantastic villa - actually 2 villas one above the other - in a beautiful location. We stayed as a family of 12 (2 grandparents, 2 children and spouses and 6 grandchildren) and had a fantastic time. Both villas had excellent facilities with top range equipment. The upstairs villa is on the same level as the lovely pool, which was where we based ourselves most of the time. The downstairs accommodation is entirely separate with its own entrance, veranda, large kitchen etc - in fact it is probably larger than upstairs but we used it just for bedrooms mainly and focused family activities around the pool, kitchen veranda and barbecue terrace.

The location is beautiful but is also fairly remote. This has its bonuses and downsides. The journey is on very winding roads climbing the mountainside and is not for the faint hearted! It took about 40 minutes from the beach at Torre del Mar. But except the last 500m it is tarmac all the way, with wonderful scenery to enjoy with steep valleys and incredible mountains. So don't anticipate a quick walk down to the local bar!

However nearby Competa (10 minutes by car) is a lovely mountain village with various plazas, great restaurants (try La Taberna) and several shops and supermarkets that will keep you going. We enjoyed visiting for the Grape Treading Festival which attracted thousands of visitors from the area and was a great day with local people. The nearest large shopping is at El Ingenio just off the E15 1km north of Torre Del Mar, with an Eroski hypermarket, many shops including C&A (remember them!) and several family restaurants.

The owner, Ralf, is the most helpful owner I have come across! From the beginning of booking to the day of departure he was nothing but obliging. He even purchased an additional outside table during our stay so that we could all sit as 12 people together for meals. With frequent emails and a call from Germany when we arrived to make sure all was well, he was never intrusive and always helpful and courteous. He simply wanted us to enjoy our time there and nothing was too much trouble.

Any downside? The villa says it is 5 bedrooms but the 5th is just a single and had no air-con. But I think Ralf is considering air-con for it as well.

All in all a wonderful villa. Highly recommended!

Beautiful, peaceful location.

An excellent Finca set in a beautiful location. The house comes very well equipped, with pretty much everything you could think you would need. We were very well welcome and looked after by Ralf, who even arranged a new table to be bought for the terrace so we could fit our entire family at meal times.

The surrounding area is beautiful and there are amazing views from the Finca, even being able to see the mountains of Morocco. We visited the local town Competa a few times and would highly recommend La Taberna restaurant in Competa.

I would highly recommend staying here.

Superb Finca, wonderful holidays

Magnificent Finca, perfectly equipped for wonderful holidays, everything you may need is there, readily available.

The house is located in a calm spot in the mountains, with nice "white villages" nearby.

Perfect for families with children ( 5 in our case) that will spend most of their time in the swimming pool.

We appreciated the two houses which allowed each to have a certain independence.

The owner's main concern is his guests well being and he ensures everything is just perfect.

We shall return...

Maison magnifique, parfaitement equipée pour passer de merveilleuses vacances.

Au calme, dans la montagne, entourée de villages blancs. séjour parfait avec 5 enfants qui ont bien profité de la piscine.

Nous avons apprécié la disposition des deux maisons qui permet à chacun d'avoir son intimité et son indépendance.

Proprietaire tres attentionné. Nous reviendrons

Excellent accommodation in the middle of nowhere

Although initially it was a bit difficult to find Finca Fuente de Hierro, but it was very much worth the effort. It is a great house, more than completely furnished and with a excellent swimming pool. We enjoyed the house itself, the impressive views, the swimming, BBQ in the evening and fantastic hikes in the hills around the house. Ralf Hansen is a true host and in the meantime the house has been made more easy to find. Very much recommended

The Marico and Fuente de Hierro villas are independent from one another. Each has their own ground and private pool. Finca Marico is located 750 metres above sea level, and Finca Fuente de Hierro is located 790 metres above sea level. They are located near large cultural cities east of Malaga at the Costa del Sol to the south of Maroma (2065 m), and 400 m from the Sierra de Almijara/Tejeda nature park, between the Archez-Salares, Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta Moorish wine villages. Enjoy the Mediterranean views (10 straight kilometres on a mountainous motorway 23 kilometres from the coast). Malaga Airport, where you have the option to rent a car, is 78 km away. In Canillas de Albaida and Cómpeta, you will find a place to buy daily necessities, restaurants, and there are many Costa del Sol touristic centres in La Caleta, Torre del Mar and Vélez Málaga. There are also golf courses (Baviera Golf). The sun and temperate mountain breeze create an enjoyable dry climate. Here, you will find perfect peace. Behind, like a backdrop, the tall trees guarantee silence.

Other activities:

Jog through the sinuous paths between the mountains, hike with views of Granada or walk and enjoy the stunning natural park setting. The company Salamandra in Cómpeta, also offers, for example, mountain biking, kayaking and caving (visit their website).
