WOW..YOU WILL HAVE THE GREATEST EXPEIENCE.
The location of joe and Janine's place is for sure the number one appeal. It is perfect with our toddler. We use a packnplay they supply, and set it up in the shower, which works out perfectly while we enjoy the rest of an evening after our child is asleep.
The kitchen is small but well stocked with everything you might need. We stayed for two weeks, and only ate out 4 times. There is a grill and a skillet, so we were able to cook eggs, rice, tortillas, potatoes, anything we needed. The grill is perfect for all meats. The refrigerator is good sized, as is the freezer-plenty large to store all we needed for 2 weeks.
It is a basement apartment of a three story home, and you can hear the waves and see the ocean from the apartment.
This area of the north shore is protected by a reef, so even when pipeline was getting triple overhead waves (which was a 20 minute drive to go see), the beach here is perfectly swim able. It is a great Kiki beach.
There isn't a day that goes by that many turtles are spotted. We also saw humpback whales from our place.
This is or second time back to joe and Janine's, and it most definitely won't be the last.
We went to Hawaii to visit our daughter and son in law who lived on the North Shore. We were looking for a place to stay that would be close to them and we found a gem of a place when we found Joe and Janine's lovely place. We stayed in their loft apartment with its own entrance street side and doorway to the beachside. It had its own porch to sit and enjoy the magnificent view, a kitchenette with full size refrigerator, microwave, electric skillet, toaster and K-cup coffee maker which was perfect! Bathroom was clean with nice tiles and the layout was ideal with double sink area separate from the shower and toilet. The living room/ bedroom had a sitting area, big screen tv and a very comfortable king size bed which after a big day of hiking was most appreciated. Our hosts Joe and Janine were warm and welcoming, making sure you had everything you needed - I needed an iron and they brought one up... very accommodating. Best of all is the location! Gorgeous views, the ocean just steps away providing a true island experience. We enjoyed hiking out to Kai'ena Point and seeing Albatross and Monk Seals. My favorite was early morning coffee on the beach followed by snorkeling and seeing and swimming with 7 large sea turtles. We had an amazing vacation making memories we will never forget. Thank you Joe and Janine for sharing your piece of Paradise! Betty and Stuart , Lakeland, Florida
I have visited the island of Oahu 3 times, and have stayed in different areas of the island each trip. This amazingly beautiful hideaway was my best choice yet! If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this is your place!!! It is a hidden gem. It is both private and quiet.
We arrived late at night (almost 12:00 am) and Janine was waiting to welcome us. She even left fresh fruit in the room for our first breakfast. The kitchen is well stocked with all of our cooking needs. The bathroom had everything we needed, as well!. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they provide snorkeling gear, boogie boards and other beach toy for small children. The outdoor shower is amazing and beautiful to use after a swimming in the ocean or having sex on the beach (yes, I just said that). Joe and Janine went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, enjoyable and memorable! The only bad part of staying here was the leaving! Will we be back? YES!!!
This place really is paradise. It is exactly as in the pictures and more. The apartment had everything we needed the bed was comfortable the bathroom had the necessaries. But the highlight is the location. Nothing is better than beach life. We swam in the water from sunrise to sunset Sometimes accompanied with our new BFF's the 6 turtles that reside in the water. An amazing experience
Beautiful. Just steps away from the beach you can view the easternmost point to Waimea Bay. You can also see the turtles that live there right from your home.
Comfortable. Joe and Janine were excellent hosts. They were able to give advice as to where to go, shop, and see, yet they gave you space to explore on your own or just sit at the beach and chill.
Paradise. The sunrises were colorful and the sunsets over the ocean were memorable. A couple were covered in clouds, but the sky always gave a good show. There is a pod of turtles that allow you to swim with them; along with the coral and colorful fish it was truly a paradise to snorkel in. (Equipment was there for our use.)
Home. Located in the lower level of their home, it is steps away from the beach. They made us feel at home - down to bringing us fresh fruit, letting us use the laundry, and trying a different coffee pot so we had our morning fix.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. My husband even called it a "Grand Slam" as it has everything we hoped for and was completely away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and the Pipeline beaches. We were able to see many of the sights, but we left a few for the next time we travel to Mokuleia/Waialua/Haleiwa area.
If you are going to Hawaii and want a true island experience, stay here!!
This was my second time to Hawaii and staying at Joe and Janine's house made me not want to leave the island!
Steps to the beach. SO MANY TURTLES!! We snorkeled with the turtles and all the reef fish every morning. There is clear, clean water at their part of the ocean with calm waves perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. Joe and Janine were great hosts. Even though you are staying below their personal home, they are not intrusive or disruptive in any way. Pictures do not do this place justice! The space is bigger than it looks. Perfect for two people, or two people and maybe a couple of small children. The bathroom is large and the shower is too. Not much of a kitchen, but honestly there is no need for one.... just relax and enjoy your time here...you will want to spend all your time outside! There is a full size refrigerator, conventional oven, electric frying pan (which we never used), keurig. We ate cereal and fruit for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and went less than 10 minutes to Haleiwa for dinner every night. The keurig is perfect for coffee, but Haleiwa has plenty of great coffee shops you can quickly grab coffee at if k-cups aren't your thing. Kaena Point is close by which is a great easy hike with stunning views, Dillingham Air Field for hang gliding, skydiving, and airplane tours. After a few days on the North Shore, we had to end our trip in Honolulu. I snorkeled at Hanauma Bay in hopes that it would be as great as what I experienced on Joe/Janine's part of the beach....it was beautiful....but nothing beats having those turtles outside your door....We will be back...... we loved it here!! Thank you Joe and Janine!!
sky diving, plane rides, horse back riding, ultra lite rides.ZIP LINE,picturesque enclave away from Honolulu, this is it. This is where people come to get away from the crowds and relax. Only 9 minutes to the historic town of Hale'iwa (site for 'Baywatch'), with unique art, shopping and restaurants, and just 15 minutes to Waimea Bay and Botanical Gardens.
The famous North Shore surf breaks are within a 15 minute drive, including Pipeline and Sunset Beach. There is a wide variety of excellent restaurants and great water sport activities right here.
For the golfers, Turtle Bay Golf and Tennis Resort is just a 30 minute drive, and Kahuku Golf just 40 minutes away.
There are no hotels in Mokuleia and almost empty white sand beaches go for miles in both directions. It is also a site for the TV Series 'Lost'. Sky Diving and Glider Rides are offered just down the street and kite-surfers will entertain you with their antics on the waves to the West at Mokuleia Beach Park.
