Nestled in the hills 30 minutes southeast of Syracuse, right in the heart of Central New York, this lakeside cottage is perfectly located for the weekend getaway or a week-long holiday. Looking for a home base while exploring Central New York? This is the place!
Our property, called 'Tipsnook,' is a charming lakeside vacation rental property located in an Appalachian-like environment. The view of the lake is beautiful, and the property itself is a magical place. Come enjoy some days of swimming, fishing, and kayaking, and then some nights of grilling on the back deck and toasting marshmallows by the lakeside fire pit. Or come visit in the spring or fall to enjoy the lake's serenity by a crackling wood stove fire. We would love to share our little slice of paradise with you.
Nearby is a General Store/public boat launch just five minutes away. You can find a grocery store, pizza place, and cafe nearby in DeRuyter Village. Highland Forest county park is located a few miles away with hiking and biking trails. Cazenovia is close by (10 miles away), a wonderful tourist spot with restaurants, golf courses, gift shops, and churches.
The rustic cottage at Tipsnook has a cozy and quaint interior, which has been recently renovated. It consists of a Bedroom, Living Area, Sleeper Loft, Kitchen, and Bathroom. With a trundle bed in the private bedroom, a futon couch in the living area, and a loft for the kids, the cabin can accommodate up to 8 people.
While at Tipsnook, you will soon discover why frequent visitors refer to the side facing away from the road as the front of the cabin. Step out the 'front' door and you will find yourself at the lake. Out 'back' is a deck, which is great for sunbathing, grilling, and playing games. There is even a good-sized yard leading back to the road with plenty of room for horseshoes, frisbee, or any other game you enjoy.
The main room of the cabin has windows on every side, allowing for lake breezes and plenty of light. Sit at the table with your morning coffee and look out over the water as the early risers set their sails to catch a morning breeze. The cottage is purposefully a TV-free zone to help guests escape, but there is good cell phone reception and we do provide Wifi for your computers and devices. (Make sure to upload some vacation pictures to our community Facebook page!)
While there is a private bedroom in the 'back,' many visitors prefer to drop the futon into a bed and sleep with the windows open and the sound of the waves lulling them to sleep. Visiting when it's a bit cooler? The wood stove will warm you up in no time! Pillows and blankets supplied, but please bring your own sheets and towels (or we can provide them for a small cleaning fee). The loft is a favorite sleeping place for the kids!
The full kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, an electric stove, a microwave, a toaster oven, and most importantly, a coffee maker. Water is pumped into the cottage from the lake, which is filtered and suitable for washing dishes and showering. Fresh drinking water is also provided along with dishes, silverware, pots and pans. And of course, if grilling is your thing, the gas grill is located on the rear deck.
Kayaks (single & double)
Yard games (Bocce Ball, Cornhole, Horse Shoes)
Jigsaw Puzzles, Board Games, Cards
Lakefront Fire Pit
2-burner Gas Grill
Fresh drinking water
Bed Linens & Towels (available upon request)
I'm an Artist, Craftsman, Woodworker, Designer, lucky husband of 45 years, and proud father of 6 boys, all married to wonderful daughters-in-law and starting families of their own. Along with my wife Cathy, we own the property and have enjoyed many years of vacationing with our kids and grandkids at this timeless little nook of the world.
The cabin at 'Tipsnook' has hosted 5 generations of our family over the past 90 years. Originally, it was a simple screened-in deck used for playing cards on summer evenings by original owners Dick and Warena Grime and their family, who owned a nearby cabin on the property. As their children grew and had families of their own, they converted the deck into a quaint cabin to accommodate guests and family. Their oldest daughter Meg married Tip Cornue, and the two eventually purchased the place... now known as Tipsnook.
Over the years, the cabin was expanded and updated. Meg and Tip had four sons, who had 14 children of their own, and now a fifth generation (16 kids and counting!) is growing up with memorable family vacations here. I am Meg and Tip's oldest son, now the 'Keeper' of Tipsnook.
Many family members have moved away, but we have all taken Tipsnook with us. It is a place of family and retreat, of celebrations and peace, of play and contemplation. Our tight-knit family still meets up here a few times over the summer, but when we're not using the cabin, we happily rent it out to our extended family and dear friends (many of whom come back again and again), as well as new friends who are just discovering Tipsnook for the first time. Come enjoy our little nook of the world. We'd love to share it with you!
There's a magical atmosphere here, a true escape from the everyday hustle and bustle. Most people who rent from us come back again and again.
Over the years, Tipsnook has hosted families looking for some time together on vacation, published writers looking for that quiet place to finish a book, couples looking for a romantic getaway, bridal showers, artists, hikers, parents visiting their children for college graduation... and on and on.
If you're looking for a place with all of the modern conveniences, you may be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a peaceful escape, yet close to everything the Finger Lakes has to offer, you will not be disappointed. Tipsnook provides all of the basic necessities in the cottage (no TV or AC); but the outdoors is really what you'd come here for - lakefront, kayaks, paddleboat, firepit, and hammock. A perfect escape.
We came up here for a weekend getaway with our dogs. The cabin is small but cozy. We had rain one day but enjoyed reading by the fireplace and listening to the waves and storm outside. The previous day, we'd had PERFECT weather to enjoy the lake. We took the kayaks, sailboat, and the paddleboat out for a spin. The lake is on the small side, which was great for us! There were a few larger boats on the water, but they made sure not to come too close to us. Although we were there in early June, the water was warm enough for swimming. If you are into fishing, we saw a ton of large bass and perch---- and my husband swears he saw a catfish.
The cabin had everything we needed and Don & his son were very accommodating. The neighbors were all very friendly and welcoming. We would love to come back.
Cabin is what it said! The owner was great we had to change our plans and he was very forgiving! Great for two people .
I love the cabin! We have stayed here more than once, and look forward to it again next year! love the access to the town, the owner is Wonderful! and neighbors are incredibly wonderful. Makes me want to stay much much longer!
My friend and I stayed here with our two toddler boys. Overall we had a great time! I look forward to staying again. The owner was very helpful and informative also! Druyter lake is a beautiful place to be!
My husband and I stayed here last September and had the most wonderful time! I can't speak highly enough of our vacation. The location is beautiful and private with easy access to the nearby town of Cazenovia. Plenty to do but we also had the best time just hanging by the crystal clear water with our 2 golden retrievers. We also met 2 of the neighbors who were incredibly friendly but also respected our privacy. Don was very accommodating with everything and checked on us to make sure the heat was okay when the temperature dropped. The cottage itself is kept very clean and it was convenient having the wifi access. We also loved having the paddle boat and kayaks to use. We are already planning a trip back here next Fall! Thank you, Don!
On a pristine lake under beautiful Central New York skies, this rental property is half an hour from Syracuse. It's also 15 minutes from the quaint village of Cazenovia, a good place for shopping, golf, and dining. Nearby Highland Forest county park offers hiking and biking trails. Three other state forests are nearby. Also close to the Finger Lakes.
