Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved the Bungalow and the property Tulemar. The staff was excellent, the beach beautiful, and the bungalow very nice. We saw lots of wildlife on the property, more than in the National Park. We plan on going back.

Tulemar Bungalows, Ocean View, Private Beach, Resort Pools, Family Vacation!
average rating of 4.9411764 based on 18 reviews

Awesome resort! Would recommend it to everyone.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at the Tulemar Resort. The four of us, including our daughters age 7 and 9, stayed for three nights. The beach was great, with tons of shade, lounge chairs, boggie boards, and kayaks to use. The sand was lively with very few rocks or shells. We would drive down to the beach (although you can take a shuttle or walk, although it is a steep walk back up) and hang out there for a few hours or the full day. There is a beach bar and food service at the beach.

The bungalow is quite private with trees surrounding it. We were treated to a group of squirrel monkeys outside our bedroom window eating mangos from the tree on the first day. A sloth was in a tree next to our unit on the last day. We also saw Howler monkeys and capuchins on the beach hike at the resort. An agouti was often wandering around as well.

The unit is steps away from the resort restaurant and a family infinity pool. We ate all of our suppers at the resort restaurant. The view from the restaurant is fabulous, sunsets from there were stunning, the service was great, and everything we tried was delicious.

I would highly recommend this resort. The beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. The only thing that could have made this experience better is if we had up graded to a unit with a porch.

Owner's Response: Hello Christen; We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed the resort, the beach, and the bungalow. I know the kids (and adults) all love seeing so many animals on the premises. We do have another villa with two terraces that you might want to try on a return trip. We hope to see you back again soon!

111 was the ideal vacation retreat...thank goodness because it rained the whole time!

  • 5 of 5

Tulemar was lovely and unit 111 was spic and span clean, stylish and the perfect retreat for our rainy, rainy, rainy! week in Costa Rica. We visited several resorts for meals and drinks and we were so glad we chose Tulemar, even though the others had their pluses. Best of all at Tulemar was the private beach with friendly staff to assist with anything ie. free kayaks, towels, etc. David-- the beach manager-- was so friendly and just wonderful. And our housekeeper, Sondra, did an excellent job. Frank, our concierge, wasn't anyone to rave about. As he showed us our unit upon arrival & we asked questions, he seemed disinterested, unless we wanted to book activities through him. VRBO/Tulemar said the concierge would be "checking in on us" during our stay, and we never heard a word from him after checking in. Considering it was pouring rain 5 out of the 7 days, it may have been nice of him to give us a text to perhaps suggest some rainy day activities. We found our own eventually, including the mangrove tour, which was in a covered boat so the rain wasn't an issue.

Very, very nice!

  • 5 of 5

Several of the reviews for this property convinced me to rent the place for a few nights. To tell the truth, it's a amazing. The bungalow is not only on a private property, isolated -but very close- to the local shops and restaurants of Manuel Antonio. It is also amidst the jungle! The sound of the local fauna will gently wake you up, and the rain on the shingles rooftop at night will provide a relaxing sleep. Everything was in working order too, well-maintained and we had room cleaning service every day. The place has also a secluded beach, where the kids had a blast with the kayaks, the boogie boards, the hermit crabs, the monkeys and the sloths - yes, all in the beach. The staff was very helpful and attentive at all times. Julie from the rental company also was great in her response times and was a deciding factor for us to choose this place. This is one of the few places I would most likely stay at again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your informative review of our Luxury Bungalow and the resort. We're so glad that you have a great visit and took advantage of the fantastic beach with the kayaks and boogie boards. The resort is a great place for families with children! We'll be happy to have you back any time and I will reserve a bungalow for you; or maybe you would like to check out Casa 405 with 2 bedrooms, terraces, great ocean view and full kitchen, also located in the Tulemar Resort! Pura Vida!

Tulemar Bungalows perfect Costa Rican experience!

  • 5 of 5

My family visited Costa Rica for the first time in August 2016. We booked Tulemar Bungalows based in all the positive online reviews. We could not have been happier with our choice. From the very beginning, Julie at Green Coast Rentals was so helpful with answers about the property, activities in area and amenities. Frank, our concierge, arranged a car for us upon our arrival at the airport and met us at the property to show us our room and answer any questions. It is about a 3 hour drive from San Jose airport but our driver made it go by fast by pointing out sights, telling us about the area, giving us tips on what to do and see and even stopping to let the kids see the giant crocodiles at Rio Tarcoles. We had bungalow #111 and it was absolutely amazing. It was spacious, clean, private and the views out the windows were really did feel like we were nestled right in the trees. The kids were thrilled that there were monkeys outside our windows on the very first morning! The Infinity pool by the restaurant had amazing views and was well maintained. We may have been there at a less busy time but, we walked along the path down to the beach and the kids found their favorite pool with a waterfall and had it all to themselves for hours! We spent an entire afternoon with boogie boards down at Tulemars private beach. They have boogie boards to use, food & drink service, and towel service. The kids LOVED playing in the waves here. We went to several different beaches while in Costa Rica and this was a favorite. It's quite a hike down to the beach and back up to the bungalow......we didn't mind the walk but they also have a shuttle service if you prefer. There are really good restaurants and grocery stores all within walking distance. We didn't pick up our rental car until the end of our stay at Tulemar but never needed it. The only time we took a taxi was when we went to Manuel Antonio National Park for the morning (only a 10 minute ride). We would very highly recommend Tulemar Bungelows to anyone staying in the area and we would most definitely stay here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. A lovely way to see an amazing country. Staff were great, accommodations in good condition. Private beach was a real treat. Wildlife everywhere, great views, and in a nice area. Would recommend the rain forest tour with guide for anyone who wants to see the wildlife - you can do it by yourself but you're going to miss 90% of what's lurking right in front of you. Resort has enough recognizable food to keep middle-school children from starving, but plenty of great native food in the immediate vicinity also. We felt pampered and relaxed the whole time.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Jeremy. We are so happy that you enjoyed the Bungalow and the Tulemar Resort. Did you have a chance to try the kayaks or boogie boards at the beach? This is a great amenity of the resort, so we hope you took advantage of it! If you are planning a return trip, remember that we have villas that will accommodate up to 12 people and depending on what villa you choose, include ocean views, private pools, terraces, and even an outdoor gourmet kitchen and entertainment bar in one of them! We hope to have you back soon. Pura Vida.

We stayed in bungalow 111 which is steps from the main restaurant/bar/pool, a short climb down/up from the family or adult pool. Once you check out the south and north beach trails by taking a hike for the views, the shuttle to and from the excellent private beach (Press 1 for Beach Attendant, Press 2 for Beverage Service) is quite welcome. The hills are steep. The resort grounds are their own nature preserve (howler, squirrel and capuchin monkeys, sloths, iguanas, geckos, macaws and too many birds to list). There is a troop of capuchins which run morning security checking all windows and doors for a quick snack. You can watch them settle for the local mangos and assorted plants right next to a pool or walkway.

Frank arranged great tours for activities. Mike's guided tour of Manuel Antonio was amazing. He pointed out more details than we would have been able to have seen on our own. The views through his spotting scope were fantastic and provided some amazing photos. Pablo and his crazy skipper provided an unforgettable cruise through the mangroves with very upclose and personal interaction with the wildlife. Quepos is a quick ride on the local bus service (just remember to tell the driver to drop you off or you are along for the ride all the way to Manuel Antonio).

An amazing stay and trip.
