About Joe Moffitt
Your hosts are Debby & Joe Moffitt. We have always lived in Middle Tennessee and feel fortunate to be so close to so much natural beauty. Joe is a retired school administrator and we still operate a nursery - Shangri La Farm - primarily selling daylilies. Together, we have 12 children and 30 grandchildren.
Joe Moffitt purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Joe Moffitt chose Rock Island
After looking at river/creek property for several years, we found our dream spot near the headwaters of Rocky River. It is located close to our primary residence and is a favorite spot when children and grandchildren visit. As much as we love this place we call home, we also love to travel. As we have done that, and used a variety of accommodations, we have discovered that our favorite places to stay are similar to what we built overlooking Rocky River. Our idea of a perfect getaway - is just that - a getaway: from the traffic, the crowds, the noise, and the lure of tourist traps.
What makes this Cottage unique
The location is a real plus. Rock Island State Park is about 15 minutes away. Cumberland Caverns is about the same. Driving just a little bit longer will take you to beautiful Fall Creek Falls State Park. As fun as those destinations are, there are not words to describe the picturesque Rocky River farming community, the sounds and sights of nature, and the calming effect of the river as it ripples by. We think you'll love Little House as much as we do! Leave your cares behind and come recharge at one of the prettiest little spots on earth.

Everything was great. My wife and I enjoyed our stay. Very nice for peace and relaxation. Very beautiful.
These nice folks were great guests.
Little House on the River is a little piece of heaven on earth.
We loved our stay the only thing we couldn't figure out was how to the heat and air system worked. We turned the heat on and the smoke detector went off probably because of the dust burning off but we were scared to turn back on. It was a little late or I would have contacted Joe. The property is super clean inside and outside. Amazing views by the river!
Thank you for taking such good care of Little House. I totally forgot, with the season change, to turn the heat on for the first time and let it go through that cycle before you got there. Please call me anytime though, no matter how late, when there is a concern.
Absolutely Loved it....
Actually, it is a very neat, clean place with a wonderful back porch for sitting facing the river. It's a great place to read, watch birds and squirrels, and listen to the whisper of the water over the rocks. The owner is great to communicate with and has gone out of his way to make people feel welcome. It is about 9 miles from the closest village along a small river. I love it there and surely want to return.
Great anniversary concert getaway!
What a gem of a spot in the peaceful mountains of Tennessee. My wife and I enjoyed staying at the picturesque little house on the river while we were in town for a concert at the Cumberland Caverns. (absolutely incredible venue)
The tranquil setting and trout inhabited clear waters made for a relaxing time. At night we had a campfire and gazed up at the Milky Way! A short drive to some pretty special natural wonders with good hiking, including the rock island falls and then into McMinnville for a decent meal. This place is great for seclusion, with only one other cabin near by and some cows in a pasture on the other side of the river. A very charming, clean and relaxing location for a getaway! We hope to be back in the near future. Thanks for allowing us to stay!
Thank you for taking such good care of Little House while you were there. It restores my soul to be there.
Great relaxing location
Very nice property with running stream. Nearby to whatever might be needed.
Best feature is access to the river. A little tree trimming could greatly increase the wonderful view. Will return.
Rock Island State Park is close by and it offers a lot of outdoor activities: fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, swimming, etc. Fall Creek Falls is a little further away and offers these options: swimming (including a pool) hiking, canoeing, paddle boating, bicycling, horseback riding, golf, tennis, etc. Cumberland Caverns is a short drive if you'd like to do a little spelunking. Links to all of these are at our website, along with several others.
