Beautiful, comfortable more than we expected!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this stay and this property was better than expected. Ample and comfortable sleeping spaces. Plenty of seating and table space. We were pleasantly surprised with all the kitchen had. Great kitchen to cook and visit in. The outdoor view and porch were story book perfect. Our family felt at home immediately. The rental company was great! Good communication, readily available and very nice. We would recommend this property to large families, a couple of families vacationing together or anyone who enjoys luxury inside and out!

awesome house, awesome location, needs a little TLC and cleaning

  • 4 of 5

this place was really great for a family vacation... had everything we needed/wanted... I would just say that the house has clearly been used a ton and could use a little refreshing... deck is really worn out and needs stain/seal, fire pit area had trash laying around, there are a lot of areas in the house that could use dusting/cleaning.. but overall it's a really great property... finally, the property managers are very strict and the rules/instructions seem almost like they assume you will treat the place horribly and are scolding you before you even have a chance...

Owner's Response: This is a very well used and loved home. It definitely has a rustic quality but not worn out. We thoroughly clean the home after each guest but because it is made entirely of rounded wood logs they can catch a small amount of dust. We are sorry you felt our rules were strict. We unfortunately do get many people who choose to disrespect our properties, so we try hard to ensure we protect our homes for our owners and other guests. Our rules are really simple common sense and nothing above what any other property manager or hotel would ask.

Great Isolated Cabin Just Outside Purgatory Resort

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin for a 4 day ski/snowboarding trip up to Purgatory Resort. Arrival was simple: directions were accurate and the short, private road off of the 505 was nicely plowed. The cabin was nothing short of fantastic, so much so that a couple of friends that bailed at the last minute ended up coming up a day later. I didn't catch that WiFi/Internet wasn't provided but it didn't matter much. Between the fire in the living room, theater room with TV, the surrounding winter wonderland and the hot tub we actually enjoyed being in more or less internet seclusion (Note: T-Mobile and Sprint didn't seem to have any coverage, Verizon had full LTE and voice).

The cabin was fully stocked for those prepared to make their own food in the wonderful kitchen. Every bathroom had a nice assortment of advil to tooth paste and the washer and dryer down stairs was rather handy at quickly turning our clothes to be ready for more snow the next day.

Pay attention as local food choices are a bit limited past 7 PM leaving you with the Sow's Ear (a bit higner end, reservations required) or a local Pizza Joint called the Olde Schoolhouse Cafe which cares not for hospitality but right up the alley if you're in the mood for decent pizza and a few beers at a local dive. Stop in Durango to stock up before heading up to the cabin to save yourself 40 or so miles and remember that Needles Country Store is a nearby shop for quick essentials.

For the 4 of us that crashed at this cabin we couldn't be happier. I've stayed in Durango and Purgatory Resort a few times and this was hands down the best for a group of people. The only downside is that you have to take your shoes off when entering, but honestly... the charm and easy access to mud rooms at each entrance made this a breeze. Just bring some slippers as the stairs are a bit slick!

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying here for our anniversary weekend and we could not have been more thrilled. The views were stunning and the home is amazing in every way. We certainly did not want to leave! The kitchen is a dream to cook in and I could not stop staring out the windows at the mountains. The hot tub was great to soak in at night under the stars. The media room was lots of fun and we got to enjoy some playoff baseball on the big screen. Our kids (6 and 8) joined us for one night and we had a blast together. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a secluded retreat that will take your breath away. We are locals and will definitely be back to stay at this home again!

Not what we expected

  • 3 of 5

We were so excited to stay at this house but when we actually arrived our excitement disappeared pretty fast. The garage is too small for a full size SUV so we had to leave our car outside. It was 5F when we arrived. The fridge smelled so bad we didn't want to use it at all. It was hot on the main floor but it was freezing on the second floor where all of the bedrooms are located. We had a 4 year old with us so we had to use all the blankets we had plus the once we have brought with us. We rented this house for 4 nights but left after 3 because of how cold this house was. There is no cell phone connection at all. Oh and in case you have to get up in the middle of the night you will wake the whole house up because of the squicking floors. They said there will be coffee filters but we didn't find any. The only good thing about this property is the location and the views outside , they were gorgeous. We were dissatisfied with our stay and the amount of money we paid for this place.

Owner's Response: We really wish you would have called us the first day to let us know of these items. There is a second thermostat for the upper level bedrooms that it sounds like you missed turning up. We also have back up supplies such as coffee filters we could have pointed you to. This is why we state in our arrival directions to call us with any concerns or questions, we are here to help. The fridge was thoroughly cleaned the day before your arrival. This is a very rustic cabin made from real wood logs so yes the floors do squeak, it is one of its charming quirks. When you choose a rustic log cabin you have to expect it to be just that. We have not had any other guests complain of not getting cell service but the home is in a more remote location, which as you mentioned is one of the highlights. Sometimes you also need to turn your phone off and on again so it connects to a closer service tower, something not everyone knows to do. I am very confused as to how your SUV did not fit in the garage. It is a full garage that has fit multiple cars and SUVs of different sizes over the years so that issue sounds like "user error". We are sorry you did not think to give us a call to help as we could have made your stay much more enjoyable.

Cindy jester 116 rendezvous, Amarillo texas

  • 5 of 5

Cindy jester, 116 rendezvous, Amarillo Texas. We give the lodge a five star! When we drove up we knew we had hit a home run, beautiful place, everything you could think of for comfort in a mountain setting. The home was spotless, all the modern conveniences in a spectacular cabin atmosphere. The views were breathtaking and easy access to any activity Durango and silverton has to offer. Our bucket list adventures included Atv at silverton, train and ziplining . We will recommend this place to everyone and can't wait to come back. The whole process was easy with the property managers. Thank you for our stay.
