We love the beach, shelling, swimming, fishing & bicycling. Dolphins can be seen swimming along the shore. Red Sox & Twins spring training games and the Edison & Ford Estates (all in nearby Ft Myers) are fun outings too!
Wendy purchased this house in 2009
The beach is so close & uncrowded. Captiva is a 10 min drive away. Fun restaurants & shops, bike trails, wildlife cruises & preserves are nearby. The neighborhood is quiet & friendly. You can hear the waves at night from the open master sliding glass doors.
We love the views of the private pool area from so many of the rooms. The palms and bougainvillea surrounding the pool are so tropical! You can hear the waves at night. I love the sliders that open to the pool from the master bedroom.
Love the area and your place. Had a great time watching the waves go in and out. Very relaxing. We had a wonderful time!
This is a fantastic home. Wendy was wonderful to deal with throughout the process, very accommodating and helpful re recommendations for things to do, where to eat, etc. The beach is beautiful and wonderful for shelling. It was very private-most days we were the only people on the beach for a long way. The beach is a short walk and the beach cart makes it very convenient. The house is so nicely decorated and comfortable. It is an ideal layout for vacationing. There is plenty of room so everyone has their own space and privacy but the open layout makes the shared space cozy even though it is quite spacious. We loved the family room off the kitchen with the breakfast nook for hanging out and looking over our shells. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and has tons of storage. The furniture was very comfortable as were the beds. There were plenty of towels-bath and beach. We also enjoyed the lighthouse beach very much (different kinds of shells, lots of sand bars and a lovely view of Fort Myers). The photos and descriptoins don't quite do the house justice. It is even nicer than it looks! The property was spotless and the lanai with the gorgeous pool and landscaping is visible from most of the rooms, giving it a tropical feel. It is a quiet street and neighborhood. We have recommended this property to friends. We enjoyed dinner at Trader's (excellent food), the Sanibel Thriller boat ride and the Cabbage Key Captiva Cruise, and appetizers at George and Wendy's. Also the sunset at the Mucky Duck on Captiva and shell crafting at the Community House on Mondays. We preferred Bailey's for groceries (and their excellent coffee bar and bakery!!). It was a very relaxing time for us as a family and we plan to come back!!
If you are looking for a vacation rental, you really can't get any better than this! As soon as we walked in, we loved it! The house was so nicely appointed, clean, comfortable and spacious. The outside pool and deck area is just wonderful, and that is where we spent most of our time. The location was just a short walk to the beach, and also a short drive to all the restaurants and shops of Sanibel. The only thing we were sorry about was that we were only staying for a month. We all could have used more time in this lovely home. We truly had such a wonderful and relaxing vacation, and
hope to be back next year.
We have had the most wonderful chilled holiday imaginable in this house. It felt like home from the moment we stepped through the door. Our two-year-old was happy instantly and stayed that way. Wendy has done a fabulous job on the furnishings, which are stylish, practical and comfortable all at the same time, and the pool is a good size and happily private. Outdoor dining within the lanai was a real pleasure whatever the weather, indeed perhaps best of all whilst watching the lightning in the distance!
Thank you both, Bob and Wendy, for creating an environment so synonymous with the island and for your valuable local knowledge and suggestions. We will be back!
Island Escape is the perfect name for this place. The recent renovations were amazing and made everything fresh and new. It was so nice and clean. I love the breezy island decor. As soon as you enter, you feel so welcome and relaxed.
I especially love the location. Being so close to the beautiful beach is amazing. We all enjoyed riding bikes or walking on the pathways and exploring the area.
The pool/lanai is amazing! We loved the sitting area beside the pool and the passthrough came in very handy.
We had fun checking out some of the quaint restaurants on the island too. I would highly recommend Island Escape to anyone! I can't wait to come back!
This is a perfect house for a vacation. Tile floors, big kitchen, garage, books, toys, puzzles, sunny, airy - Perfect. Bed was comfortable, pool was perfect. We bbq'd every night. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was new and clean and well taken care of. The whole house a nice serene tropical feel to it and we enjoyed every minute of our stay there. The house is large and would hold 6 or more people comfortably with plenty of privacy for all. We would definitely choose this house again for another Florida vacation. We rented bikes and rode all around the island and down to the beaches. Found fabulous shells that we of course had to bring back home! Thank you for a great time!
'Island Escape' is a 5 min walk to the Gulf beach, famous for shelling. You can often see dolphin swimming along the shore, and the sunsets are gorgeous! Periwinkle is 5 min away where many interesting restaurants and shops are. You can explore delightful Captiva Island, just 10 min away. Many water sports rentals are available, such as windsurfing and parasailing. You can explore close by Ding Darling Wildlife Reserve by Tram Tours or on your own. Tarpon Bay also offers cruises with a naturalist guide and kayak & canoe rentals. Historical & Shell Museums, live theaters, cinema, library and the lighthouse are other local attractions. The hike & bike trails that cover the island are also close to 'Island Escape.' The marina offers cruises, dolphin watching, fishing and boat rentals. Across the causeway, Ft Myers has many attractions, such as the Edison and Ford Estates, and the Red Sox and Twins spring training games. You can do it all, or you can relax on the quiet & friendly beaches!
Other Activities: We love the beach the best. Shelling quickly becomes an addiction! The Ding Darling Wildlife Reserve tram tours are fun because we enjoy learning about the habits and quirks of the many birds, animals, and alligators. Bring your binoculars! Biking or walking on the bike trails is always a family favorite. Sometimes we even spot an alligator along the fresh water canals! We like to take company to Doc Fords, Key Lime Bistro, Pink Flamingo and the Timbers restaurants. There are more I could list- each has it's own unique ambience! The men like to fish off the beach or rent a boat to go out for grouper or snapper. While at the marina stop in & soak up the view at Gramma Dots. We like to rent kayaks on Tarpon Bay and paddle around the Mangroves. Wear polarized sunglasses to better see the activity under the water! Other favorites are water sports rentals, cruises, two live theaters, shopping, spas, and parasailing. [You Only Live Once!] Then, back to the pool or beach with a good book :)
Golf: Golfers on every level can have a good time here. The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club has water on all 18 holes. Touring pro Mark McCumber redesigned it in 1995 with an emphasis on chipping. The Beachview Golf & Tennis Club has waterways, open fairways and lush palm & fruit trees. Both are 14 min drive away. Make reservations at least 4 days in advance.
