Sunset Cove Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, Studio + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

If it's a water experience that you are looking for, this is it! The perfect vacation spot for the family. There is something for everyone - there is a shallow area for the little ones to play and deep water for swimming and floating. There is a floating dock to play on. We have 2 sea otter kayaks, a canoe, and pontoon paddleboat for you to explore the lake. The cabin is at the head of the cove. There is a 125 foot dock crossing the lake. There is an bonfire area with benches and of course, fishing. The clarity of Lake Lure has earned it a high rating for bass fishing.

Nestled among the native rhododendrons and dogwoods of the Appalachian Mountains sets this unique little cabin. Built in the early 1970’s, it is one of the older quaint lakefront homes on Lake Lure. It is truly an exceptional find in that it is set on a 14-acres at the head of Sunset Cove. Also, it is built partially out over the water, which allows an unobstructed view from the porch directly down the cove to the main channel, Chimney Rock, and most importantly the sun setting over the mountains. It is one of the finest views on the lake.

Let us take you back to the earlier, unhurried days of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge area. Leave the busy life behind and return to the days of real relaxation and rest. You can lounge on the deck in the warm summer sun reading a good book, fish from the dock as the water licks at your feet, swim in the cool refreshing water, go kayaking down the cove, or just sit and watch the sun sparkle and move across the water and then sink behind the mountains.

In its own right, our cabin and dock/bridge are famous - if you're a movie buff. In 1983, several scenes from the movie, Firestarter, were filmed on the property. The most memorable being when Charlie and her dad were captured by 'the Shop' while crossing our very own dock. The film featured an all-star cast with Drew Berrymore, Martin Sheen, & George C. Scott.

The dock/bridge mentioned above extends all the way across the end of the cove(approx. 100 feet)and is truly unique. The entire bridge is ideal for the fishing enthusiast. For your enjoyment, we have 2 Sea Otter kayaks are on hand as well as a canoe, and 12 ft pontoon paddle boat - all ready to explore Sunset Cove and Lake Lure. Life jackets are on hand as well.

We invite you to come and enjoy your own private get-a-way at Papa Bob’s Cabin. It is a one-room cabin with a large private bathroom/changing area. You will find a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa. There is a loft with two twin beds. Appliances include a full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker. There is central heat and air and a Weber grill. So, bring a good book, your swimsuit, your fishing pole and come relax.

*******DUE TO TOWN REGULATIONS WE CAN ALLOW 4 adults OR 2 adults & 4 CHILDREN********

PONTOON BOAT AVAILABLE: We have a 1999 Voyager 21' pontoon boat available at your option to rent with our home! It has a 90 hp 4 stroke engine. The pontoon rental is $195/day with a 3 day minimum in. The following rates are with taxes and fees included:

offseason weekend rate $365 (Fri-Sun)

long weekend rate $570 (Fri-Mon or Thur-Sun)

weekly rate is $1275.

It is a great way to get see the lake and surrounding area; go for a sunset cruise, go to Bayfront Grille by boat for lunch or dinner.

In 2006, Lake Lure has passed a regulation that makes it unlawful for boats with commercial licenses (i.e.our boat) to tow skiers or tubes, etc behind the boat.**************

By the way, the cabin's property adjoins 'Ledfords Landing' which is VRBO listing # 28758. Combine the properties if you are looking for a large extended area for a family reunion or gathering (together sleeps 14-16). The large grass field on the cabin's property is ideal for games and gatherings. There is a volleyball net and whiffle balls and bat you are welcome to use but we suggest you bring your own glove. Whiffle ball with the kids is one of our favorites!

About The Owner

Hi,we are Tom, Jenny, Samuel and Isaac Cox. Our Lake Lure cabin has been in our family for over 45 years. We love Lake Lure because it makes you feel that you are a million miles away and the views and peace and quiet turn our focus on the bigger picture, away from the daily details that pull at us. We invite you to enjoy our cabin. Come and relax!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1971

Why The Owner chose Lake Lure

Jenny here, my father bought this property in the 1960's. It has remained in our family and there are precious memories here.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is truly a waterfront experience. Literally built over the waters edge.

Just wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay in your Cabin. Our Honeymoon was so relaxing and most days were spent sitting on the dock and enjoying the view!!! Traveled the lake in the pontoon... and did some fishing. Thank you for the special touches for our Honeymoon stay. We hope to return in the future.

We've lost track of how many summers we've visited Papa Bob's Cabin! We thoroughly enjoy it each time we come. It is so peaceful and quiet. The views are spectacular, and the sun setting over the mountains can be breathtaking. And Papa Bob's gives a front row seat to watch! We love the beauty of nature all around us, and it's always interesting to see what wildlife we see on each trip! There is enough shade to sit on the dock for a good part of the day, for those of us who don't like to bake in the sun! It's pleasantly cool and relaxing. Our family fishes and explores Lake Lure in the kayaks, canoe, and paddleboat. Chimney Rock is close by.....a must see! There are several good restaurants.....we really enjoy La Strada. And Riverside Riding Stables offers fun trail rides (cash only!). The kitchen in the cabin is well stocked, and the cabin is always clean and neat when we arrive. Tom and Jenny are very personable and do all they can to make sure our stay is comfortable. We keep saying we need to visit on a fall weekend to see the leaves! We highly recommend Papa Bob's Cabin as a vacation spot!

Relaxing Getaway

Had a great time at the cabin. A nice getaway from our hectic lives. Lots of fishing and book reading were done. I enjoyed early morning on the deck looking at the lake and drinking coffee. Jenny was very accommodating. We will definitely return.

Fabulous views; wonderful hideaway!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely long weekend in celebration of our first anniversary. Jenny and Tom were THE BEST to work with, going our of their way to make our stay wonderful and relaxing. We kayaked everyday, fell in love with Lake Lure, and had a great hike at Chimney Rock. The lake view with the mountains as a backdrop was just spectacular ... the sunset was one of the most picturesque I've ever seen. Many thanks!!

Papa Bob's Cabin

My husband and I wanted a quick get away in a place we had never been. I had heard of Lake Lure area through family in Ashville. I started looking and stumbled on this charming cabin!! Just perfect for what we wanted. The pictures sold me. Jenny Cox was most helpful in working us in to a small time slot as we could only stay a few days. When you walk in the door the whole front of house is Windows!!! What a view!!! All lake and mountains. This is a perfect place for 2 or a family. There is a loft with twin beds for the younger generation. The owners have provided many things for you do!! Plus there is a bonus as they own larger house next door. This would be perfect for a big family gathering. We toured the surrounding towns, ate at Larkin's and Lastrada. There is a huge Ingle's close by. All roads leading to cabin and around The area are steep at times and hairpin curves are abundant!! My only complaint was that it was still hot!! Got home and first cold front of season came through!! Oh well will go later next time. Thanks to Tom and Jenny Cox for such a charming cabin!!!
