We love coming to Bolivar for the relaxation and getting away from everything. It is so peaceful to sit on our deck in a deck chair or in the hammock and watch and listen to the waves or see the sunset. We live in College Station, which is about 3 hours away and come down as much as we can.
Miriam Gerdes purchased this house in 2010
We have loved coming to Bolivar for many years. The tranquility of the area and the friendly people had us coming back again and again. Now that I have a child, I wanted a place (not too far away) where he could learn to enjoy the beach as much as I do. We were very saddened when Hurricane Ike came and demolished the area and are excited to help in revitalizing the Bolivar Peninsula.
We enjoy the peace and quiet of Bolivar, while Galveston is just a short ferry ride away. The restaurants on Bolivar Peninsula can't be beat either! The beach is a tenth of a mile walk from our house along a paved neighborhood street. The beach is wide and quiet in 'our' area. You will find some surf fishers and families but usually no loud parties!
This property was a great fit for our family of 10. It was spacious and just a short walk to the beach. It was clean, and well stocked. The restaurants were in close proximity and we also enjoyed being able to grill and cook breakfast for everyone during our stay. At night we enjoyed star gazing and relaxing in the hammock/patio furniture.
It was nice and quiet in the beach houses nearby as well which was nice since we did not want the crazy loud party scene. We will definitely return soon-highly recommend.
We went last min and stayed the weekend. great fast friendly people and responded quick. Again was a last min booking but well worth it. Everything you need pretty much there and didn't skip a beat. Had a great time with family and was a great place to visit. Will deff return soon. If you are looking for a decent priced good place to be this is it.
What a nice place -- it felt so much like home and we were so relaxed. There for Thanksgiving week, and thoroughly enjoyed the home and all it offered. So well stocked! It was so relaxing and just a few minutes drive to local restaurants and stores. Thank you, Miriam, for helping us find fresh crab meat -- above and beyond! I would definitely return (maybe in a warmer month) and would highly recommend this property!
We jumped on the chance when cabin became available and I'm glad we did. The perfect weekend getaway! My husband is leaving for two months and I'm pregnant with twins...So we needed something to do not too far away. Beautiful cabin! Plenty of room! Great distance from the beach! Great location off 87! Perfect! Best of all was the gracious owner who worked with us on such short notice. Thank you AGAIN! Can't wait to go back!
The beach house was beautiful and spacious. We traveled with our two small boys and their grandparents. The beach house was so open and clean, a wonderful place to spend vacation. The beach was just a short walk. My son and I would take an evening walk to the beach. He's 5 and said he wanted to stay forever! The house was so comfortable and well stocked with things we may have forgotten. Great communication with the owner. Instructions for our stay were extremely well explained in the emails. Thank you for such a great time. Wonderful memories made. Would definitely come back again!!
We had a wonderful time. The beach is a short walk away. Even my 3 year old could run to the beach without tiring. House was very comfortable and so well stocked. Loads of kids toys and so much to do. Loved just watching the ocean from the hammock. Neighborhood was very safe and friendly.
Our house is located just 5 miles to the Bolivar ferry which will take you to Galveston. Galveston has many restaurants, live theatre, music, antique homes to tour, Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn water park and much, much more.
Crystal Beach and the Bolivar Peninsula has a small public golf course and a small seasonal water slide that is also a hit with the children. There are also two playgrounds in the area.
Birding and nature areas are close by, including an Audubon Trail. Fishing is big in this area, both by boat, in the surf and at 'Rollover Pass.'
The best thing though is the BEACH, BEACH, BEACH! Fishing, Skim boarding, walking the beach, collecting shells (not exciting shells, but there are shells), chasing and/or catching crabs, flying kites and much more. There are also businesses in the area that rent jet skis (in season) as well as golf carts.
