We loved the cottage. It was clean and comfortable, well stocked .we loved everything about our stay. The owners are wonderful host .always quick to answer any questions we had. Our children loved the beach ,and the animals. We would highly recommend this is it cottage. Thanks for making our time at the cottage so wonderfull.😊
You can't beat being on the ocean and having an entire beach to yourself. Great for playing, exploring and just decompressing. Close drive to major attractions and activities. Definitely a 5 Star.
However, the cottage and amenities is where it goes downhill, as they do not live up to the expectations of the web site. The cottage is tired, hard to find a comfortable chair to sit in or a comfortable mattress. Furniture on the deck was fine, but once inside, you wonder, why are they keeping this furniture? We were surprised to find the bedrooms in the basement (not identified on the website) and the pillows , mattresses covered with plastic.
The outside fire pit (chiminea's) are surrounded with chairs from an elementary school, only good if you are 5 years old, or weigh 50 lbs. Other lawn chairs barely pass and would have been a good garage sale find, ten years ago.
The owner is very attentive and informative. However, we were surprised when she attempted to charge us more for our pre arranged family that stayed overnight. Plus, when she was unable to complete our ETF, she showed up at our door at 6:30 and conveniently blocked our cars in the driveway with her two barking dogs in her truck,. NOT COOL!
We enjoyed our time in PEI, the ocean, the food, the people and just relaxing with family. Very disappointed with the cottage and the owners attitude.
Considering the expectations of the website and the money we paid, we were short changed.
By all means go to PEI....but skip this place, or just lower your expectations.
The cottage is a short walk to the shared access to the beach. (Shared by the very friendly neighbour). The grounds are beautiful and the owner was there almost every day of our stay tending the gardens. This is good but it did have an impact on privacy. The owner is very dedicated and eager to answer any questions and provide anything you might need during your stay. The drive to Basin Head was well worth it. The beach was beautiful.
We very much enjoyed our stay at this property. It is spacious, quiet, away from it all, yet close enough to everything you may want to see or do on the island. No need to stay in "tourist central" if you don't want to! Sharon and Roy put a lot of work in to their property and it shows (among other things, the flower/vegetable gardens are impressive). They are very warm, friendly and helpful too...we bought fresh lobster to cook and realized we had no appropriate pot for cooking them - one quick call and Sharon ran her stock pot over to us faster than I could blink! I could list many more ways they were helpful as well.
Thinking of local attractions, the Cardigan Lobster supper was some of the best food we've ever had, and the Cape Light was terrific too. Other highlights we enjoyed nearby were hiking to Boughton Island, golfing at Brudenell/Dundarave, the beautiful hike at Greenwich Dunes (be prepared and take your beach gear - both beaches are spectacular and it's $20 for a day pass), the beach at Basin Head (GORGEOUS), the drive (stop at the Bluefin in Souris for the best mussels on the Island) up the the East Point Lighthouse. If you want take-home fresh seafood, the vendor at St. Peter's Bay Landing was wonderful and they pack it well for travel so no worries. Further afield, all of the coastal drives are do-able and beautiful and lots to see/do along the way - we especially enjoyed the drive to Cavendish (enjoy Cow's Creamery ice cream once there- it really is the best). Golfing at Crowbush we highly recommend. If you would like to take in a world class ceilidh, go see the Richard Wood Trio on a Saturday night at Stanley Bridge (it means a bit of a long, late drive back to the cottage, but absolutely worth it).
There is so much to see and do on PEI that two weeks wasn't even enough time. We would love to visit the Island again some day. Definitely recommend This Is It Cottage as the place to stay.
The owners of this cottage were delightful. Very friendly and helpful. And when we left a traveling bag, they arranged for friends to bring it to us!
The cottage itself was clean and had every pot needed for cooking and 3 sets of dishes - very unusual in our long experience of renting. And the owners invited us to use their vegetable garden which meant we had daily fresh greens.
The bank of the river was too steep to take our kayaks down but there were spots to put-in close by. Or you could use the owner's kayak. The table and chairs on the wharf were ideal for dinners.
We recommend this cottage.
We had such a great time at this clean, bright and well maintained cottage/home. The owners lived close by and were so hospitable and warm we felt right at home. The scenery was beautiful and there was lots to do for the kids. The beach was a short walk down a soft pathway. We would gladly go back and tell all our friends about "this is it cottage"!
Hike to Boughton Island at low tide, clam digging, South DeGros Marsh Beach, walk or swim, Launching Point Beach, Morrison's Beach, Brudenell River Horseback riding, Panmure Island Provincial Park, Cruise Manada Seal Watching (Montague), Bird Watching on site.
