About Cynthia Brown

I am a retired professional from the high tech industry of Silicon Valley. My husband is a retired accountant. Motivated by our desire to share with others the natural beauty of the redwoods and creekside setting of our weekend getaway home in the Santa Cruz mountains of California, we started renting it out in early 2011 to vacationers. Since then, we discovered our true passion in creating aesthetically pleasing, practical and comfortable "home away from home" living spaces for others to enjoy. During our annual visits to my in-laws in southwest Florida, we fell in love with the vibrancy of the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and the beautiful beaches. Subsequently, we established other rental homes in Hollywood.

Cynthia Brown purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Cynthia Brown chose Santa Cruz County

My family was camping in the redwoods and we fell in love with its natural beauty, the activities it has to offer in the immediate/surrounding areas as well its proximity to the rest of the Bay area. We feel very happy to own a piece of this tranquil setting and we invite our guests to come and enjoy it.

What makes this cottage unique

We come to the cottage to relax, enjoy and re-rejuvenate. My favorite thing to do is just to sit and take in the spectacular view and soothing sounds of the creek. If we felt like hitting the beach we drive into Santa Cruz.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a perfect place to stay! We loved the patio and the creek in the back, and spent most of our time Redding outside. Everything was clean and well taken care of. Very private and quiet area.

Relaxing, comfortable and beautiful cabin with amazing surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

My brother and I stayed the night and it was amazing! The cabin is very comfortable and in a great location. The deck basically hangs over a beautiful creek and the trees are incredible! A perfect place to wind down with family and friends.

I would definitely recommend it to friends and family! I'm not sure when I'll be back in California, but I would definitely like to go back to this cabin!

Great house located in the heart of the woods! Loved the location and the scenery!

  • 4 of 5

The house was in a beautiful location. It had amazing scenery, perfect for relaxing. It wasn't too far from town and check in/out was a breeze. The house itself was a little dated but everything worked well for our use. We would definitely stay again!

Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time in this amazing home. The views and creek really made this a unique find! We were in town for a wedding and this was such a good choice over a hotel room.

The owner was so accommodating with my two young kids and our dog. It was really helpful to have the high chair and pack and play available. Thanks for a memorable vacation.

lovely little cabin; needs TLC

  • 3 of 5

my two children and i stayed at this cabin for two nights recently. the setting is lovely; there is a stream right below the house that provided my 10 year-old nature girl with much happiness. the house itself was nice, but i agree with other reviewers that it could use some TLC. it is rustic, to be sure.

this is not a good property for more than a couple of people. my 14 year-old son slept on the twin bed, which is down below the loft in the living room area. there isn't privacy in terms of separate rooms. the two bathrooms are a bonus, however. it was chilly in the house, although the heater did work--but it took a while for the house to warm up. this was fine with us, as we prefer cold to hot! the renter did provide linens and towels. the bedding was all great; the towels were older and had some holes in them. the shower was tiny (just a box, really) and the water pressure and temperature were weak. we made do but that was a disappointment, especially because it was chilly at that time of year.

there are other houses around you, but all in all it is pretty quiet, or at least it was when we were there in april. it was a 20 min. ride into santa cruz, and henry powell state park is right in felton center, so that was great.

all in all, it was a nice place to stay. i hope that the owners put some love back into the place to make it more sustainable. at this point, paying over $200 bucks a night to stay there seems a bit steep.

A cozy cottage

  • 4 of 5

I love the "A" frame of this cozy, little cottage. It opens up to the view. The View while sitting in the main area its just lovely and it has a nice medium sized deck to sit out on as well. It rained while we were there and it was just beautiful. Tranquil and relaxing. There are stone steps down to the creek, but they were a little slippery because of moss, leaves, and the rain of this weekend. In my head we were closer to the creek, maybe just a few steps, but its more that 25 plus steps down. The handrail going down to the creek was helpful but not super safe in some places, There is a queen bed upstairs, a small twin in the living area (a little out of place) and a futon. I can only see four people staying here. We had a little problem with the heater. I was told we probably pushed the buttons too many times so it locked us out. There was old food in the stove from the previous renters and a tea light candle already burned upstairs (they ask for no burning of candles). They want you do empty the dehumidifier, which was full upon entry, so we did, but couldn't that be something the housekeeper can do as well? We only stayed 2 nights. The handrail going up to the loft also seems a little unsafe, not sturdy. Not a good place for disabilities. Again. all basic needs met, lovey little cottage, and could use updating, but its a cottage. We had a nice weekend getaway. The neighbor was a friendly man, and he did let us know that he loved Jesus.
