About Mary Jo
My husband and I found the cabin in 2000, it had been neglected for over 20 years. As a general contractors ,my husband, Don had a vision of what the old 1930's cabin could become. We added glass tile back splash in the kitchen, granite counter tops, refinished the original hardwood floors and added comfortable furnishings, all the amenities you need to have a wonderful vacation. Why Mary Jo chose Palomar Mountain
I have been traveling to Palomar Mountain since I was a child. My family camped at the State Park every year. The State Park has great hiking trails. My family was so happy when we bought the cabin, now we will be able to have family reunions on the mountain again. Our cabin is situated in the back country of Palomar on 3 acres, very quiet, great for naps and bird watching. I'm sure you will enjoy our cabin and the Mountain as we have for many years.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our cabin is located off the main paved road on a private dirt road. Our dirt road has been regraded and surfaced. I drive a Volvo S40 and have no problem getting in and out(always drive slowly on dirt roads). If you are coming to stay in Nov. you should have an all wheel or 4 wheel drive, just in case it rains or you get some snow. Our property is off the beaten track and that is why people enjoy it. The Cabin is a Very Quiet place to be. While you are there enjoy Hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, deers walk thru the property, watching the stars at night of the deck, worm yourself in front of the wood burning stove, travel up the the historic Palomar Mountain Observatory (Hale Telescope)

Great cabin in the woods
Beautiful cabin away secluded in nature! Our pups loved playing on the trails and chasing the neighboring pups around. Beautifully furnished and the wood stove warms the whole house on autumn nights. If you are taking your pups, just note that the Palomar Mountain State Park does not allow dogs on their trails, but there is some hiking close to Julian. The drive to nearby Julian is spectacular too.
Very nice and enjoyable!
A great place for a honeymoon. Definately want to go in the daytime.
Quiet and great view
Great cabin. Very comfortable and quiet
In our 15 years together, this was our first vacation REALLY away from it all. We often go to beaches or sight seeing in popular cities. How would this go for us? Rustic and buried in trees on the outside, but with modern finishes and convenience on the inside. We left our home ( 100 degrees ) and arrived to find blue skies and 72 degree weather with a gorgeous breeze coming in from every window. So much green and only the sounds of birds and crickets at night. We brought our telescope and planned our trip around a moonless night. It was breathtaking when the stars began to appear after sunset. The Milky Way was clearly visible to the naked eye. Cool and crisp mornings. So nice to have fresh air instead of conditioned air. There is a farm up the road (out of sight) with 3 friendly dogs. Bronson, Katy, and Baxter. Katy joined us on our walk through the woods. There are no leash laws, so be aware that the dogs will run out to meet you. Lots of tail wagging and barking. We talked to their owners and apparently the dogs have encouraged mountain lions to leave the area. Remember this when you hear their barking. Be warned that the dirt road to the cabin is not for sissies. I wouldn't try it in the dark, because it is REALLY dark at night. And your car WILL be dusty when you leave. But if you crave an escape from traffic and noise and neighbors ... if you want to feel the breeze as you lay on the sofa and read ... if you want to grill dinner as you watch the stars appear .. then this is a great place for a getaway.
Very clean, cute , and secluded
Very cute cabin with just about all you need. Cute and comfortable with nice upgrades. Getting to the cabin takes some patience and good driving. Definitely not met for a sedan. We drove our Lexus SUV, but it was pretty hairy coming and going at night. Drive slow and take your time. Our recommendation is if you bring your Apple TV, bring an hdmi cord. And a speaker for your music.
Wonderful getaway cabin
Secluded, quiet, and JUST what we were looking for. We loved our stay! Thank you, Mary Jo. You made us feel very welcome.
There are many hiking trails on Palomar Mountain and around our cabin. You can go Fishing at Done Pond in the national park with a fishing license. The hiking is endless in the park. The Palomar Observatory is perhaps the world's most famous astronomical observatory. Since the 1930's it has been, and continues to be, a center of astronomical research.
Be sure to visit the Observatory.
