Why David L. Wallace chose Highlands
We have had a vacation home in the Highlands/Cashiers area since 1997. We live in Florida and really want a getaway from the summer heat. We also miss the snow in winter, and this area has never disappointed us. The dining is wonderful, and we never get tired of the variety of restaurants.

Perfect Highlands Getaway
My family and I were beyond impressed with the cottage. It provided the perfect home base for exploring the Highlands area, and was a relaxing and luxurious destination in its own right. Its location is perfect - five minutes from Highlands, it's close enough to head into town for shopping or a bite to eat, but is far enough outside of town to feel secluded and remote - we spent the first evening of our stay with our kids fishing off of the dock while we watched a pair of ducks diving for food on the lake, and then we popped into town for a meal. That mixture of rural seclusion and the perks of downtown so close to each other is hard to find. The amenities of the house itself provided everything we could ask for. If you can think of a kitchen appliance or gadget, it's in the cupboard. Every room has surge protectors to help charge devices, including usb equipped ones in our bedroom. There were spare blankets, linens, and throws galore. Everything is modern and up to date; my family travels to Highlands to experience the waterfalls, the hiking, and the wild trout fishing, but at the end of the day it's also nice to have modern amenities. The house is equipped with fast, far reaching wifi; my kids enjoyed a rainy evening watching movies on Netflix through our Roku (which we used in lieu of the provided Apple TV) in front of a warm fireplace while my wife did a little business online on her laptop. We could take it for granted that if we needed something it was already there for us. The house itself is spacious enough that our family of five barely used three of the four bedrooms; the furniture was comfortable and modern, including a double recliner couch that my children fell in love with, and hardwood floors, granite countertops, and ample lighting dominate the decor. The outdoor deck is wonderful; we took almost every meal on the full dining table, and two rockers and a couch provided the perfect place to sit and watch the lake. The lake itself would be enough of a draw to bring us back to this cottage, even if the house weren't so lovely and the location optimal. My family spent every evening sitting around the firepit roasting marshmallows while my kids pulled crappie, bream, and bass out of the lake not ten feet from the fire, and we paddled around and fished from the provided boat each day we were there. We plan on visiting again soon, and have found our home away from home in the mountains. I couldn't recommend more highly - it's perfect.
Perfect place for a family get away!
The house was exactly as posted, no surprises. Fire pit was used nightly, perfect location and stocked "dry" wood. Large, well equipped kitchen and plenty of sleeping spaces for our large group. Only two bathrooms but it did not pose a problem the entire vacation. The house was well clean Linens and towels were stocked including soap, toilet paper, paper towels, we literally were able to just walk in and start our vacation. There is so much to see and all within 30 minutes of any direction we will definitely have to come back. The owner was super fabulous to work with and was available by phone immediately if we needed anything, which we did not. Highly recommend this home - we will be back
Wonderful property. Well equipped, convenient to town and plenty of space.
The owners are very nice and have the kitchen well equipped if you wish to eat in. Very nice roomy front porch to enjoy the view of the lake and the fresh mountain air. Certainly hope to come back and visit again.
This is our second stay at the Cottage and we were not disappointed. We love the location - off the highway and secluded, yet close to Highlands and Cashiers. The home was very clean when we arrived and very inviting. We loved the large porch overlooking the pond and once again ate all of our meals here and enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness of this location. Our dogs were happy with the green spaces and loved exploring. David is very accommodating and we appreciated all he did for us. Thanks David for another wonderful vacation in beautiful Highlands at the Cottage. Hope to be back next year! Jim and Diane, Baton Rouge
Home away from home
Lovely home to enjoy family and friends. Lots of room for everyone. We were all able to relax and become refreshed. Fishing was fun in Sparkling Lake.
Great property in fantastic setting.
This is the second time that we have stayed at this wonderful property. All bedrooms are nicely appointed and extremely comfortable. We especially enjoyed our time of relaxation on the Deck overlooking the Lake at the end of a long day of sightseeing and for drinking coffee in the morning.
