Come explore a small piece of paradise in Downeast Maine. Whether it's the classic Maine rock beach on Pigeon Hill Bay great for beach combing, the grass marshes and Blueberry fields of Carrying Place Cove, a canoe or Kayak trip to Abbot Island, a swim in Carrying Place Cove, a hike up Pigeon Hill (elevation 371ft), a bike trip or hike into the Petit Mann Point Wildlife Refuge or to All Souls by the Sea Chapel, there is a no shortage of exploration to be done. After getting to know the area, take some time to sit back and relax on the deck, soaking up the sun, listening to distant sounds of the ocean, wildlife and lobster boats. There is of course always a chance of an occasional car to bring you back to civilization. In evening watch for Deer, Rabbits, Raccoons, Owls etc from the deck as they make there way across the marsh, the animals at dusk serve as an amazing back drop for spectacular sunsets over Carrying Place Cove. There are very few places on the Maine coast to where the sun sets over the ocean ! (see a photo in our gallery) At night take a minute to view the Milky Way Galaxy from one of the darkest points in the eastern United States. For the last 50 years our family and friends have come to enjoy this unique spot on the Downeast Maine coast, we've now decided to invite anyone who'd like to come and explore this area, to be part of our hidden gem.
Of course even in a rural setting like Downeast Maine, it's always nice to have the comforts of home ! For the occasional rainy day or after dark the cottage has a large library, lots of puzzles and board games, a 32in HDTV with Direct TV, DVD Player, and a computer with dial up internet (sorry board band isn't available in our area). The layout is an open style, the front door enters into a sun porch area, which doubles as the second bed room, there is a futon and dresser, also this is where the desk, computer and printer are located. The sun porch opens into a large kitchen with lots of counter space, a stand up washer and dryer and a kitchen table that seats four. The kitchen looks out over the deck and Carrying Place Cove. On the other side of the kitchen is the living room, there is a fold out sofa, lounge chairs, the TV, Stereo, DVD player, and several book cases. Off of the Living Room is the bed room with a full size bed, the bathroom, and heading to the back of the house the family room. This is the largest room in the house and was originally a screened in porch. It was closed in about 20 years ago, the family room has a large futon, some book cases, closet space, and a large table looking out a bay window over the backyard to the water and a gas fireplace in one corner, which does a great job of taking off the chill of a spring or fall evening. Out the sliding doors of the family room, you'll find a deck, with lots of sun and a vibrant smell of roses thanks to a huge rose thicket just to the right of the deck, some out door lounge chairs and a gas BBQ grill round out the deck.
My name is Steven, my parents bought this property in 1964, I currently handle management and up keep duties, for several family properties. I'm originally from Brockton Mass, have lived in Boston, New York City, and Portland Maine. Currently, I spend my winters in Portland and summers, at least the last four in Bar Harbor. I have a 2 year boxer named Tyson. I enjoy hiking, bike riding, swimming, and boating. I'm excited to be able to share a place that is special to me with other people. This is only the second year that we've offered rentals for this property. We are excited to invite others to share in our small piece of haven on the Maine coast.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1964
My parents bought this unique property in 1964, for just under 2,000 dollars. Needles to say, a fair amount has changed since then, but the reasons to why they bought it have not. They wanted to be on ocean, they wanted to be able to escape everyday life, even today, that hasn't changed, nor as the area around us. Our cottage and land is surrounded on two sides by water and on two sides by large tracks of either federally protected land, or large land conversion areas. One of the truely great things about this area is that from our back deck, you see the same view and amazing sunsets that my parents saw in 1964, and that view will never change !

Me, my husband, my Mom and Dad and our dog stayed here in August, 2011. It is very quaint but well maintained and very clean. We enjoyed many hours on the deck taking in the beautiful scenery. Steven was very professional to deal with and everything we could possibly need, and more, was at our fingertips. We enjoyed a bbq and had a very relaxing vacation and felt at home there. We didn't get to do much hiking but there are a few trails. Steven left us with a long list of things to enjoy in the area. We had an awesome stay. The only thing you may find disappointing is that there is not actually 2 bedrooms. One bedroom is actually what is shown as the dining/family room but that was fine for us. No complaints.
Our cottage is located on Petit Manan Point in Steuben Maine, this a very rural area with a friendly tight knit community feel. Most of the properties around us are seasonal second homes, many are not used very often, even the heart of summer. This gives our Cottage a unique relaxing feeling of seclusion, which can be so hard to find, even on a vacation! It's a great feeling to just sit on the deck or in the cool grass in the middle of a July afternoon with a book, and hear nothing but the birds, wind, ocean, maybe a dog barking or lobster boat off in the distance. Want to do more then waste a day away the deck ? Take a short walk, under a mile and enjoy beachcombing, berry picking, fishing, bird watching, boating, multiple hiking tails, Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge. Want to do a little more, drive an hour or so, maybe less in any direction for an amazing day trip adventure to Acadia Nation Park, Mountain Desert Island, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Schoodic Peninsula, Campobello Island, West Quoddy Head, Fort Knox, Donnell Pond Public Reserve Land. Don't want to have a plan ? Follow RT 1 and explore the towns and villages of Downeast Maine like Winter Harbor, Milbridge, Cherryfield, Columbia, Corea, Machias, Lubec, Prospect Harbor, Jonesboro, Adison, etc. There is more information about hikes, things to do and day trips in the location section on the listing
