We live in Northern California which is also a beautiful part of the world.
Victor Becerra purchased this villa in 2010
We built this house because we love the area, being so close to both the ocean and the jungle. It is a magical location, very relaxing and very out of the way.The entire house is hand built, from the tile work to the cabinets to the paintings. It is a very unique property and our guests have loved staying here.
I stayed at Casa Perla del Mar with my daughter for a week enjoying greatly the area and the immaculately kept luxury accommodation at Casa Perla del Mar. Wonderfully quiet with ocean views from the upper level and a welcome trade wind that flows through the house when glass doors are left open. Italy, the house cleaner and superb cook brings into the home a sweet and gentle feeling daily ( except Sundays). I also liked very much the layout of the house as it is setup with a kitchen on each level were one to travel with another family. The interior of the house reveals details as you would expect from a talented designer.
Down the road is in my opinion the best cenote we visited ( we also went ot dos ojos and gran cenote). Also two convenient restaurants are just a 3min drive down the rather private road serving excellent meals after a long day of fun. Xel Ha is a must.
I recommend without reservation a visit to Tulum and a stay at this abode. Top Marks!!!
I spent Christmas week with my wife, three daughters, and a family friend at Casa Perla Del Mar. it was a bit unnerving committing to a rental property and the travel related to getting there just from visiting a website. This is the first time I have ever experienced a property being better than advertised! My family is not easy to please and they were just delighted with the cleanliness, spaciousness, and charm of this gem near Tulum. Beautiful views from anywhere in the house. Relaxing well maintained gardens and pool by an attentive staff, all on a secured roadway with very few cars driving by. We loved the local restaurants just up the road with great food and friendly staff.
For activities we snorkled at the Gran Cenote, spent a day at Xel-Ha theme park, and visited the beautiful beaches of Tulum. There are lots of shops to visit and the grocery stores were very American friendly.
The owner was very responsive and great to work with. He provided great advice on how to prepare for the trip and made it a no nonsense experience. I have already recommended this property to my family and friends. It was a family vacation that we will never forget.
My vacation stay was wonderful and remarkable in many ways. The villa was luxurious and I was able to do my water aerobics in the pool warmed by the sun. The villa had amenities that I never thought would be available in Mexico. It was also a short distance for many day trips. The service provided by Italy and Elias was warm and professional. I was able to see several thunder and lightening storms from the second floor balcony facing the jungle - a real treat for someone from drought-stricken California. It was a vacation that I will never forget.
I stayed at Casa Perla del Mar for a week this May with my significant other and our two friends. The moment we arrived that Sunday evening we were like kids on Christmas - ecstatic to open each door to see what it looked like in person. The images on the site are very representative of the home, but seeing it in person is far superior. We instantly cracked open a cold one, took a dip in the pool, and vacation time was in full effect.
Watching the sunrise and being walking distance to the ocean was one of my favorite aspects of the home. We went for a walk every morning. Down the street is Blue Sky Restaurant, which has delicious pizzas (we too thought it was odd to have pizza in Mexico but totally worth it). Also on the same street was a local dive shop where we took a fishing charter. And yes we did catch a fish -- a 70 lb. marlin! The home is a short drive to all the other activities we wanted to do and it was very easy to get around.
Italy, the caretaker woman, was incredible and it was fantastic to have one meal a day prepped for us (we supplied the groceries, selected from the menu and tipped at the end of the week). While my Spanish was rusty it was pretty easy to communicate.
We felt extremely safe at the home as well as everywhere we went in Tulum.
Tips: print directions in advance like they mention on their website. You definitely want to rent a car. I wish there was a way around the required car insurance policy (I’d research more because maybe I missed something) but you don’t want to rely on taxis if you stay here. Brush up on your Spanish and/or download Google Translate or other similar smart phone apps to assist with communication while at the house and throughout Tulum.
Disclaimer note: I stayed at the Casa Perla del Mar home as a trade for assistance with PR efforts; however, the opinions are solely my own.
The house is in a great location outside the congestion of Tulum, but within an easy drive to the beautiful Tulum beaches. The beach across from the house is difficult to swim in and it was windy when we were there, but the cenote down the road and the beautiful house, make this an ideal place to stay with family and friends. We took walks on the beach to the calmer cove to snorkel and saw a sea ray along with fish. Miguel's Dive shop at Casa Cenote made sure we had a great diving experience there and at the Dos Ojos cenote. Very cool! The food cooked by the staff at Casa Perla was fabulous. We had a great ceviche and kabobs, enchiladas and eggs. They were very accommodating for meat eaters and vegetarians. The instructions, recommendations from the owners were spot on for meals and activities in the area. They really have a great reference book waiting for you. I felt very lucky to be able to stay at such a relaxing, beautiful place with some great friends.
We flew into to Cancun on a Sunday evening, rented a car and drove about an hour and half to Casa Perla in Tankah Bay (15 min from Tulum). Driving in this part of Mexico is a little different than the States because there aren't any on/off ramps just turnaround points in the center of the highway which took a little getting used to along with the giant speed bumps every 15 miles or so called "Topes". When you see this sign, SLOW down, I almost launched our rental car several times.:)
There were six of us (4 adults, 2 children) and we arrived at Casa Perla at night after driving down a gated dirt road lined with oceanside villas for about 10 min. The house was beautiful: very clean, well appointed and so comfortable. We were all pretty tired after traveling all day so we jumped in the car and drove a few minutes down the road to Blue Sky pizza...the food was great and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The next morning we opened the drapes and BAM the view of the ocean was simply stunning!! However we noticed big mounds on the sand throughout the beach. It was kind of strange at first until later that evening at sunset we noticed a nest of baby leatherback turtles hatching out of the sand and realized it was nesting season which explained the mounds of sand!! We were amazed!! No one was around, just us watching nature at it's best! The baby turtles ran out of their nest and hightailed it to the water. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences any of us have ever had, especially for our two 6 year old children. Throughout our 6-day stay at Casa Perla we were able to see two nests hatch and on our last night witnessed a giant leatherback turtle come ashore, dig a giant nest, lay her eggs, cover them up and make her way back to the water. It was simply amazing!!
We were also able to enjoy Italy's cooking everyday...she was very helpful and an amazing cook. I speak a little Spanish so I used google translate on my laptop to communicate with her much of the time. Also, Victor was always readily available and helpful to us via the internet.
We also enjoyed the nearby town of Akumal along with it's restaurants and beaches as well as the Tulum strip with many of it's amazing restaurants (La Zebra was our favorite). We had a great time at the Gran Cenote and Tulum Mayan Ruins (all about 20-25 min from Casa Perla).
We had the most amazing vacation! We'll definitely be back and will no doubt be staying at Casa Perla!
Tankah Bay is only 7 km from the ruins of Tulum and the town of Tulum as well. The ruins of Coba are only a fifty minute drive from Tankah and the world famous ecological park of Xel-Ha is only fifteen minutes away. There are a multitude of cenotes in the area, which are large aquifers, both subterranean and surface level where you can take a refreshing swim in the heat of the day. Playa del Carmen, with all its shopping and nightlife is forty minutes away and Akumal, another beautiful beach town famous for turtle sightings only twenty minutes away. Tankah Bay is surrounded by a coral reef that can be reached either by boat or by kayak; a wonderful snorkeling experience.
Casa Perla is located 50 meters from the water's edge and in May through November, you can experience one of nature's miracles. Over 150 Leatherback turtles come to nest and hatch on the beach in front of the house. The leatherback is an endangered species and these turtles have been nesting at this same spot for hundreds of years.

This villa is very spacious and can accommodate two families with each family occupying a floor each. This way, there is complete privacy while at the same time having access to their own kitchen , bathrooms, etc.
Rental rates reflect full occupancy of the house. For those smaller parties of two or four, consideration can be given for a reduced rate, depending on time of year.
