Mount Desert Island is a small island that is located off the coast of what is referred to as 'downeast' Maine where hundreds of coastal islands lay amidst the swells of the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The panoramic view from the summit of Cadillac Mountain is where the first light of dawn touches the American continent each morning. This beautiful and unique island offers spectacular scenery and is host to an infinite display of natural wonders along its rocky shoreline, sandy beaches, granite summits, and mountain-framed lakes. Acadia National Park, the jewel of downeast Maine, presents the visitor with a gift of unparalleled beauty. Tall coastal mountains tower over plush cathedral forests of spruce and pine trees. Inland the meadows and marshes, lakes and streams meander through fields of wildflowers and miles of groomed carriage paths and hiking trails. The island's rich history as both a working fishing community and a busy tourist destination, allows the visitor to experience both the serenity of nature and the attractions and activity that the island community offers.
The Corson Cottage is located near the fishing village of Southwest Harbor on the quiet side of the island, while only 12 miles from the busy and popular tourist area of Bar Harbor. The cottage is near local shopping and restaurants and only minutes from the entrance to Acadia National Park. Shore dinners of fresh Maine Lobster and Blueberry pie abound. Also nearby are several beautiful lakes where Kayaking and Canoeing are readily accessible as well as many spectacular hikes along well-kept trails that range from a 'walk in the park' to challenging climbs. There is a public golf course within walking distance from the cottage
The Corson Cottage is a large roomy pine cottage that was built in 2002. It has its own private patio and yard and it sleeps four people comfortably. There is a sleeping loft in addition to the downstairs. The downstairs has a bathroom, sleeping area, and galley kitchen. Out back facing the woods, there is a private brick patio. The cottage is clean, bright and perfectly maintained by the owner
Minutes from the beach, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor shopping district.
We enjoyed staying at the cottage for five nights, and found it to be a good location to explore Southwest Harbor and the rest of Mount Dessert Island as well. The cottage is clean and cozy with all you need to eat in if you so choose. There were only two of us, but the loft has two twin beds so two more people could have come. We hiked , ate lobster, and had a wonderful time . I would recommend the Corson
I stayed at the Corson Cottage in mid August and found the place to be a great central location for visiting Mount Desert Island and all it has to offer. The cottage was extremely well kept and had everything you would need to stay for the week. I was able to rent for just 3 nights , even though usually weekly, due to an opening. I am very glad I was able to. There are plenty of places to visit/hike all around the cottage. It is just a short drive to the shops/restaurants in Southwest Harbor. It is a short drive to Bar Harbor or Bass Harbor. The apartment has an upper level which has two twin beds. Downstairs had a queen bed which was very comfortable. There is a porch out back where you can sit or grill (just make sure you use bug spray in August). Mary was helpful with information when I asked but did not bother you at all. I would recommend this cottage for any visits to the area, great value.
I have stayed in many places in the 25 years that i have been visiting the Acadia region but nothing gives me greater joy than staying at the Corson Cottage. It is lovely, clean and highly efficient. It is located on the quiet side of the island and I love that as it lends itself to privacy, serenity, exploration, and gorgeous views. The downstairs is is bright, open, spacious for two people and I love the indoor fully functional bathroom, also very clean. Upstairs is accessed by a black wrought iron spiral staircase where 2 twin beds make for an inviting place for friends to join us. Parking is easy on the semi circular driveway and last minute groceries can be easily access by the grocery store which is walking distance from the property. If its very early in the season or late (I've been there for both) a small heater in the living room takes that Maine chill out of the air and reminds us why we all love to be in Maine as frequently as we can. If downtown Bar Harbor is for you its a short car ride or if you have forgotten a "must have" and downtown Southwest harbor doesn't fit your needs, Ellsworth is a short 25-30 minute drive. Id love to make this area my home someday and hope I can find a place as nice as Corson Cottage.
Great time in Acadia. Loved the trails for hiking-all levels. We canoed in Long Lake, ate out in the Harbor and it was only a few minutes from Bar Harbor. The cottage was very clean, cozy, and comfortable. We will be returning in the fall. Owner was very accommodating, and helpful.
We so enjoyed our stay at Corson Cottage. It was superbly clean, bright, and well appointed - we lacked nothing. The cottage had lots of room in an amazing location. Mary was so warm and welcoming, and took such good care of us. The cottage gave us plenty of privacy and a nice yard to walk our two small dogs during our stay. There is just so much to do nearby: Acadia National Park, shoreline, shopping, dining, tons of sightseeing, boat tours - too much to list. We hope to be back in 2012!
