About Margaret Walesiak

My husband and I share the same passion for traveling. We have traveled to many countries and have seen many beautiful places. Day to day demands of my husbands busy and successful business and my full time job pushed us to look for the oasis and a hideaway place where we would be able to unwind and relax. For us, Nicaragua is about warmth, being grateful, being one with nature, taking the time to smell a flower, playing with the kids and grand kids at the beach all day long and just hanging out in hammocks in the company of family and friends. In Nicaragua time slows down. We have four adult children and 5 grand children and all of us love spending our free time in Nicaragua and now that I have retired I can enjoy our oasis at different times of the year and experience their very uniqness.

Margaret Walesiak purchased this bungalow in 2002

Why Margaret Walesiak chose Nicaragua

When in 2002 we took our first trip to Nicaragua we fell in love with this country and it's people. We choose this location for its beauty and tranquility. Playa Remanso is nestled in one of the most beautiful bays along the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. San Juan del Sur is only a short drive by car. Conveniently close for picking up groceries yet comfortably far away to let you abandon yourself to the peace and quiet of Remanso Bay. Us, our guests, family and friends have been enjoying coming here. You can forget about your daily life and get completely lost in the beauty of nature. Why don't you try it and experience it on your own.

What makes this bungalow unique

With an ocean and pristine beach just 100 meters away from our house we enjoy morning / evening walks on the beach and many swims throughout the day. We love morning coffees while sitting in our outside living-room, listening to the ocean and watching the waves. In the evenings, if we feel like it, we take a short drive to San Juan del Sur (7 minutes) where we can have a meal at the friendly restaurant or an evening stroll along the Malacon Blvd. San Juan del Sur is where we buy all the groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables at the local market as well as fresh fish at the Fish Market located by the new port. We enjoy this life and we hope that you will enjoy it too.

Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Mar Y Sol back in January 2016 for one week. This was our first trip to Nicaragua! We had an amazing time! The property was perfect and the pictures do not do it justice. It was our own piece of paradise. The ocean is a short walk and it was perfect for my two children (6 and 9). Both restaurants down at the beach were great with very friendly people. It's a short drive into San Juan Del Sur and having a car would be very beneficial.

My favourite thing about Mar Y Sol was the beautiful outdoor living space. It was so lovely to have a drink on the patio in the evening while listening to the waves of the ocean.

Margaret (owner) was great to deal with as well. She was there during our stay and was a great resource for us having never been to Nicaragua before.

I highly recommend Mar Y Sol if you're looking for a relaxing vacation in the middle of paradise!

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

We (my husband, our three kids and me) stayed here for almost two months. It is a lovely lovely place. The house is beautiful and comfortable, the owners as well as the caretakers are great people and the area is just amazing. The house is so close to the beach that you can hear the waves breaking. There is an open area in front of the house where horses grass at night, the trees are full of beautiful birds and sometimes noisy monkeys. Remanso is an amazing beach and you can also easily walk to Tamarindo Beach. Besides surfing and boogie boarding, we snorkled, fished and played in the tide pools. There are two small restaurants at the beach. We ate and hung out at Slaudy which is a great family run business. When the waves were too big for us we enjoyed watching the Slaudy kids rip them. I highly recommend Remanso and the Mar y Sol house.

Two months in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My family (me, my husband & our 3 month old) stayed at Mar y Sol for 2 months. It was truly 2 months in paradise!!! The house is amazing!!! The photos do not do it justice! We LOVED that there is a huge outdoor area so we could enjoy the feel of being in Nicaragua! Daily we saw howler monkeys in the trees, wild horses, and so many beautiful birds in the trees. And the stars at night...breathtaking! The open kitchen makes cooking more enjoyable because the chef (aka Me) is able to be apart of the pre-meal social conversations, music, etc. The beds are all very comfortable and the rooms are all very spacious. Flor & Fransisco (the caretakers) are the nicest people you will meet and they are always there for whatever you might need! Our daughter fell in love with Flor! The owners, Margaret & Eric, are also amazing! They live right next door and if they happen to be in Nicaragua while you are staying at Mar y Sol...consider yourself blessed!!! They are truly the BEST!!!

We would spend most days at the beach which is just a few steps away! My husband surfs and he loved being able to just wake up and go! It also allowed me the ability to go home with our baby whenever! This made my vacation so much more enjoyable because I didn't have to worry about packing a bag everyday for the baby (which normally includes "everything for any situation that may arise")! There is also a great little family run restaurant (slaudy bar-the one on the left facing the beach) at remanso...the food is amazing and the family that owns/works there are always friendly and helpful!

I give Mar y Sol 5 stars and we will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Nicaragua!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Emily for your great review and feedbacks. Yes, the BAR "Slaudy Brothers", many of my guests eat there, drink there and have a great time. Even at night when they put up a bone fire on the beach, play games and sing songs, my guests are welcome to join them. Margaret. Emily, I am looking forward to make my place available to you and your family again.

Loved it!!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I, an elderly couple, together with our daughter stayed at Msr y Sol for three weeks and just loved our stay there. On arrival we found everything to be just like we saw it on the website. The rustic kitchen very well stocked, the beds in both bedrooms very comfortable. The outdoor living and dining areas were just great.

It is really only a few steps to beautiful Remanso Bay beach and the beach restaurant where we ate the best fish tacos.

Flor and Francisco are always ready and willing to help in any way they can and so is Margaret the owner.(Whenever she is there)

San Juan Del Sur is just 6 kms. away but if one doesn't want to take a taxi for abt. $ 30.00

round trip, car rental would be advised.

We loved what we saw of Nicaragua, it's people and our stay at Mar y Sol beach house.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Trudy and Al for your feedback. It was tremendous pleasure to meet you both and your daughter. I am very pleased that my beach house was a place for you to relax and enjoy as well as Nicaragua was a new site for you to discover and get to know. Yes, you are correct, the prices of the taxi's are quite steep while driving to the beach and back. That is why I always recommend a car rental to my guests unless the stay is short. All the best to you and your family, Margaret

So beautiful, so peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks with our three boys at Mar Y Sol Beach House. The photos do not do it justice!! The warm wind and quiet mornings were my favorite. Every morning I sat and read with my tea and was greeted by Flor who was doing her morning routine. Flor and Franco are very polite and pleasant despite the language barrier.

The beach is a two minute walk away. While somewhat busy in the daytime with surfers and surfing lessons, the mornings and evenings are quiet. Tito is your guy for lessons. San Juan is just a 5 minute drive and you can do all of your shopping there. Our boys fell in love with Panchitta, the neighborhood rescue monkey. Every morning Flor and the boys would go feed her fruit, she is a real celebrity amongst the locals. We saw volcanos, and went zip lining. We shopped and lounged and relaxed. Our two weeks went by way too quickly and we are definitely planning on going back. Thank you Margaret and Erik for the trip of a lifetime!!!

We loved the location, great for our kids. Stayed two families with 5 kids (ages 2months to 8yrs). Kitchen and patio was lovely. The small beach was great with the two small bars.

Level entry from the house to the beach means that surfers don't have to climb, up or down, the hills and can save their energy for the waves. This short distance to the beach is ideal for any age - from a young child to an elderly person. The ocean floor is flat and you can walk in to the water without a fear of sudden drops. Daily breeze will allow you to cool down in the evenings and at night.

House is serviced by drilled water well and this water is drinkable but I would not recommend it due to the high content of salt. Property is wheelchair accessible with a very short distance to the beach.
