My favorite place is Asheville where I owned Acorn Cottage B&B. I fell in love with the cozy, unique property that has the best of both worlds: the quiet peacful atmosphere of the mountains, but convenient to town.
It's absolutely amazing how close the house is to everything there is to do in the area, but how quiet it is! You actually feel as if you are miles from town - but you aren't!
I love sitting on the porch listing to the tree frogs and crickets at night. During the winter I enjoy curling up in the recliner chair in front of the fire with a good book and glass of wine.
For a marvelous mountain view, a short walk up Breckinridge Pkwy near the house reveals the magic of the area.
I love the diversity of cuisine in the Asheville & Weaverville area less than a 10 minute drive from the house.
This place was like stepping back in time. We couldn't believe how convenient the house was to everything we wanted to do, yet it felt like we we out in the country. It was private, quiet, neat and clean. Just what we wanted.
First of all the floors sloped down hill. It was very warm in the house when we got there. We called to inquire about the ac. After we were told about the AC units just needing to be turned on we notified her they were not in the windows. She attempted to get someone there but was unable. We opened the windows to try to get in some cool air to go with the ceiling fans. Around midnight we were awaken by noises on the roof moving from one spot to the other. Not knowing what or who was up there we closed the windows. There went the cool air. These noises went on all night.
The next morning the housekeepers came out to put in the 4 AC units. As they were leaving they asked how did we like the "Bumps in the night". We told him that we didn't know what is was and it made for a very sleepless night. He told us that it was a mother raccoon and her babies. I have nothing against nature but this should have been disclosed in advance and the property owner should have them relocated. Knowing what was on the roof at night and the noise from the AC units did make sleeping better.
The price was ok but I would rent here again.
My wife and I stayed in this wonderful cabin for a week for our anniversary and loved it. Along with all of the usual cabin features, we really enjoyed the attractive and secluded setting near the city, the porch overlooking the pretty yard, and the gas fireplace. We had more than enough space for the two of us. The cabin was clean and well-maintained. The owner was very responsive to the few questions we texted her. We also appreciated the good highway access and nearby grocery stores, drug stores, and restaurants (like Moe's Original BBQ -- yum!).
We rented here for seven weeks after relocating from CA, it was the perfect little cabin for us to explore NC before we found a long term rental. The owner was very thoughtful in providing everything you'd need to be comfortable in kitchen and bathrooms. It was very affordable and close to everything. We especially loved the little TV room at night...cozy & quaint. The caretakers were very helpful when we needed anything. The only two things that made this a 4 instead of a 5 was....noticeably sloping floors but the house is old so can't be prevented. However, I had a sprained ankle so I noticed it more, and if someone was disabled you'd need to know this in advance. Second, the fireplace was a big attraction for us, and after the second week it didn't work anymore. We contacted the owner, she did call out a service guy, he was suppose to bring back a part but never did. During our raining snow days we really missed it. The house is plenty warm without it but we did miss the coziness of the warm fire. We'd recommend this to others and liked the privacy and charm.
Great location and proximity to Asheville. The cabin is quite rustic. The floors are drastically uneven and feels like you are walking on a moving boat. In some areas we had to hold on to the walls to steady ourselves. Very similar to Mystery Hill. The cabin was not very clean: cobwebs, dirty dishes in the cabinets, and dirty counter tops. The faucet in the shower has come away from the shower wall and we had to place a washcloth over the shower head to prevent it from spraying water backwards onto the wall and ceiling. I appreciate the price of the cabin, but I was expecting a bit more quality to the rental.
Cabin Laurel is a fantastic find! Private, yet close to downtown, and fully-equipped, it was the perfect place to stay for our eight-day trip in January. It is a cozy home away from home, with a nice kitchen, washer and dryer, and better than home, a gas fireplace! The layout of the cabin is ideal for a small family and it is nicely decorated, neat and clean. Sharon is pleasant and very well organized - all of her instructions are easy to follow and understand. Sharon's cabin is an unbelievable value and we will most definitely give Sharon a call when we travel to Asheville again!
Situated in an established neighborhood built in the 1940s-1950s, Cabin Laurel is just 10-15 minutes to Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, and downtown Asheville and Weaverville for wonderful dining and shopping options.
