Central Eleuthera House Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom , 1 Bath

Med Point is the best 1 bedroom beach house on the best beach in the best township in Eleuthera. It is a ROMANTIC, SECLUDED AND STYLISH ONE-BEDROOM OCEANFRONT BEACHHOUSE, located on Casuarina Beach and just 100' from French Leave Beach (formally also known as Club Med Beach for the Club Med resort that was located there in the 90s). It is on the point between 2 beaches. No other properies are between it and world-famous French Leave Beach. It is a short stroll to Twin Coves Beach and its superb snorkeling reef. Med Point Beach House is like a lighthouse guarding the north end of French Leave Beach, which is the loveliest and safest beach in Eleuthera. In addition, we are only a 1 mile stroll to the centre of town.

Club Med sourced the best beaches in the Caribbean early in the Sixties, as they were first on the resort scene. They chose French Leave Beach, because it is gorgeous, and has very safe swimming because of all the reefs that protect you from waves. Incredibly shallow and warm, the north end, where we are, is much more secluded than the south end, and as such, amazing for "alone time", and lazy swimming.

Med Point beach house has a huge 1100 square foot teak wrap-around deck facing the beach and ocean, and all the modern conveniences, with a full kitchen, great room, wifi and large sliding glass doors on both sides facing the ocean to maximize your viewing pleasure. It has a KING BED, plus 2 large day beds/sofas in the living room, and a dining table facing the ocean.

The 1 storey house was NEWLY RENOVATED in 2009 by a Governors Harbour's premier designer, with wood floors, Brazilian cherry doors, and white wooden accents. The king wooden platform bed and sofas/daybeds were specially created for Med Point, which has a pale blue and white theme. Comforts include 400 thread-count sheets and Thomas by Rosenthal china. Step outside the glass doors, and you will see ocean spreading away as far as you can see.

There are miles of deserted beaches on both sides, with the famous pink sand French Leave Beach next door. If you love the ocean, this place is it, because you will see, smell, and hear the ocean 24 hours a day. The ocean is right up against our deck, and you can sometimes see grouper fish playing in the surf. Because we are on a point, you can walk the 1 mile to the town of Governor's Harbour, along a sandy road through French Leave Beach.

The drive to Med Point, takes you for about half a mile, on a sandy lane through French Leave Beach, looking out to sea and giant cacti and palms. You will enjoy this splendid view of nature every day, as you go into town.

The famous bar/restaurant Tippy's is close, and there are upscale restaurants such as Sky Beach Club and 1648 Bar and Grill, as well as charming takeouts in Governor's Harbour. we are a walk away from Baccus Fine Foods.

Med Point is also close to Tear Coat Cay, a small island offshore, where you can snorkel; also close to lots of reefs for other snorkeling. The water is gin clear, 100 feet of visibility, and we have seen parrot fish, groupers, rays and other exotic fish. The water is 75 to 88 degrees fahrenheit.

French Leave (Club Med) Beach stretches southward for 1 mile: we are at the northern edge where it is quiet, with fewer tourists. Casuarina Beach, stretches north of us for another mile, and then Twin Cove beach stretches north for another mile or so. All of this can be walked along wide sandy pink beaches with excellent shelling. Or you can jog along the sandy path that is Old Banks Road and have wide vistas of white surf.

The various gardens have coconut and royal palms, hibiscus and oleander and sea lettuce. We have a gardener, Emanuel, who attends to the plants and the beach. Walk off one stairway on the deck and you will stand on a gorgeous coral garden and see the nearby blowhole that spouts 30 feet in the air. Walk off the other steps past hibiscus and palms and geckos onto Casuarina Bay Beach. Turtles nest at night on our beach. Sunbathe on beach loungers and follow the sun around, through the day, on two wide decks.

The house is decorated modernly, in blue and white. Two walls of the house are glass, so that you are bathing in views of blue ocean and surf. There are two huge daybeds/couches for lounging, and a rocking chair to plan for retirement. The kitchen is new, and comfortably supplied, for cooking as you stare at the ocean. Then dine at a beautiful wooden table, staring at the ocean nearby, virtually at your feet. At night, go out on the deck and get a fabulously clear view of the stars. You will hear the ocean all day and night.

French Leave Beach, which you can step onto, is the most famous and romantic beach in Eleuthera. It is very wide, and the water is shallow for several feet, and 25 feet out is terrific snorkelling. Body surfing is fun on windy days in shallow water. Or you can just frolic.

Most people who walk by Med Point, express regret that they are staying elsewhere! They tell us that they would like to spend their next holiday at Med Point.

Christine, the caretaker, can make chicken curry and grilled crawfish and pineapple upside down cake on request. She has worked as a chef at a local restaurant.

Exceptional Property. Prime Location. Great Find!

  • 5 of 5

While seeking privacy, location and amenities for our Bahamas vacation experience, I found Med Point in Governors Harbour. We are delighted with our choice. Everything was seamless and easy. From reserving the property, to having the caretaker create a magical meal for us upon arrival.

The location is central to the island, and is surrounded by miles of secluded sand beach with turquoise water and crashing waves. Med Point is beautifully appointed, clean and well cared for. We felt at home immediately. Simply drop your suitcase and head to the water.

Loved it. We will be back!

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Medpoint for 10 beautiful days. Christine the caretaker was onsite when we arrived and had a beautiful homemade chicken curry with rice and coleslaw waiting for us. Words cannot describe how much we loved our stay. Everything was clean, kitchen is equipped with plenty of pots and pans. No dishwasher but that's ok as we were only 2 and didn't use that much dishes. Make sure to sit on the balcony at dawn and watch the breathtaking sunrise.

The beaches are just amazing. You can walk for miles. I would recommend some "water shoes" if you decide to take a walk on the beach to the lefthand side but still so worthwhile to walk. As for the French Leave beach, what can I say, it's like walking on flour...pink flour!

You will need a jeep or SUV to get around but MedPoint is central to all restaurants. We highly recommend 1648 Bar & Grill as well as Tippy's and Pascals at the Sky Beach Club. We headed to Da Perk for breakfast twice and really enjoyed it. We went to the Rainbow Inn but weren't impressed and it's also a 30 mins drive. Most restaurants are located on the Caribean side so you get to watch the beautiful sunsets.

Friday night, go to the Fish Fry for the outside street party.... Watch out for those Rum Baba's, that's all I gotta say about that...loll

The team at Eleuthera Vacation Rentals were great every step of the way and we will remember this vacation forever!!

We highly recommend MedPoint!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Eleuthera and Med Pointe was the perfect place to stay. It is very convenient to Governor's Harbor - less than a 10 minute drive and probably only 3 miles away. The beach to the left is fine, but there is a house a few hundred yards down the beach which is owner occupied and they also have a little rental known as the Round House which was also occupied. However if you go a very short distance to the right and around the point you have a huge beautiful beach all to yourself. Seriously in a week we saw 4 people on the beach. We also spent time hanging on the porch was very private.

We explored a little bit. The next beach north is called twin coves beach - stunning! Only semi private as there is a house on the northern part of that beach. The next beach north from there is called Sandpiper Beach and that was our favorite. Only 2 miles north of the house this beach is completey private and postcard perfect. I recommend a book called The Beach Book, Eleuthera edition.

We enjoyed meals in the restaurants around GH and had fun at the Friday Fish Fry. We did go to the grocery store and stocked up on breakfast and lunch items. It's an island and things are pricey, but most places accepted credit cards and US cash is good anywhere.

As for the house, is it quaint with nice views. Comfortable and clean. It was short on staples such as salt and pepper, but it did have TP and coffee when we arrived. We did use the caretaker. She was kind enough to meet us at the airport and guide us to the house. She cooked us a delicious meal and had a six pack of Kalik and a gallon of water waiting for us all at a reasonable price. We did have wifi which was easy to hook into with our ipads and iphones.

The one thing I would say is that we enjoyed this very much, but that was because the Alfred House was empty. The Alfred House is the big (sleeps 12) house directly behind Med Pointe. If that house was occupied, our experience would have been completely different. I would definitely consider staying at the Alfred House if you have a large group. Looks awesome. Finally the people at Eleuthera Vacations were very helpful throughout!

Exquisite

Let's say you are a couple, looking for the perfect getaway. A honeymoon even ? I mean something, a place, a nice house with all the making of the ideal romantic vacation. Well you can stop looking. Rent this place. We spent 8 days there, and it was one beautiful discovery after another. The house itself with an open floor design, large windows and airy. It is also tastefully decorated, furnished with a lot a style. Kitchen is practical and offers everything you need to cook your meals. Two large sofas face each other in the living room, and a nice dining table for diner. Outside, a wrap around deck allows you to enjoy the views, and the sounds as the ocean is right there. At times it almost felt as if we were on a cruise the house is so well situated. But that's not the best yet. To the left of the house, is a nice somewhat wilder Atlantic beach. Perfect for strolls. if you go to the next bay, there you find Twin Cove. One of the unbelievable picturesque beach of Eleuthera. We saw turtles there playing in the surf. To the right of the house now ... You have the dream beach ! French Leave. Sand so white, at noon it is almost blinding. Water, clear as gin. It was our everyday routine. Stroll after coffee, then pack two beach chairs (they have two at the house wich are perfect - you wear them like a pack sack) And walk two minutes, tops. Then ... Paradise. Walk for kilometres, or sit down, relax, swim ... The snorkeling is amazing. The things we saw !! Rays, barracudas, all the tropical fish you want. A school of blue angelfish was there everyday, turtles. Unbelievable ! So as you can see we are confident you'll have the same perfect stay we did. One of the owners, Dr. Wilson contacted us, made sure we had everything we needed, and the same can be said of Eleuthera Vacation rentals through which we originally booked. We also appreciated the typical warmth and friendliness of Christine and her husband David, the caretakers. Of course we also managed to leave the house once in a while, for some visits. Actually we did the Island from top to bottom. In the north Harbour Island is a must ! Same with Lighthouse beach at the southern tip. Two very noteworthy meals: Tippy's, somewhat of a must on Eleuthera, and the new and very, very impressive 1648 at French Leave Resort. The rest of our stay we easily prepped our own meals. You are five minutes away from groceries and liquor stores in Governor's. Car rental are easy to arrange, taxi as well. What a beautiful vac

What a great view!!

My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary by spending a week at Med Point House. Everyone was most helpful in answering our pre-trip questions and arranging for our arrival and subsequent journey to the house. Getting to the house was part of the adventure, and we could never have found it on our own without threatening our 41st anniversary. The house was clean and obviously well maintained, although considerable mold was noted on some curtains where water intrusion must have occurred repeatedly. Renters should know they should bring, or be prepared to buy on the island, cookware for the oven and all condiments they might desire as they were not available when we arrived. There is no gas or charcoal grill for use (which we knew in advance only because we asked about it). Bring some movies and books to supplement your beach time. There is a relatively new restaurant, 1648, nearby which was superb. While Tippy's had mixed reviews by some, we loved it. The Friday night fish fry in town was a fly fest to the point we had to leave to eat our food away from the pesky things. All in all, we had a nice time, but likely will continue our search for the perfect island.

Med Point is located directly between French Leave Beach, and Casuarina Beach an idyllic, mile-long, pink-sand beach with only one other house on its entire length. The French Leave Beach surf is very mild, protected by a large reef system that parallels the shore. The water is among the clearest in the world. Just offshore from Med Point is an excellent reef for snorkeling, inhabited by many colorful reef fishes.

The town of Governors Harbour, a mile away, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreigners. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing, is not to be missed.

Med Point is at the north (quiet and more protected) end of French Leave Beach, 7 miles from the airport, 1 mile from the town of Governors Harbour.
