Our Vanderhorst Plantation home is in a quiet residential neighborhood behind the second security gate. It sits on a very nice wooded lot with a lagoon view from the screened porch. This professionally decorated home offers you a peaceful retreat away from the responsibilities of everyday life. This home offers a chance to curl up with a good book on one of the many porches, take a five minute walk down a beautiful boardwalk to the beach, cook dinner on the grilling porch and enjoy your meal on the screened porch overlooking the 5th green of the golf course.
The master suite has a sitting room, a private porch, and its own laundry area. All bathrooms are new or newly remodeled and each bedroom has its own bathroom. There is a stunning kitchen and eating area and another laundry area on the main floor. It's a perfect family home - spacious and comfortable yet has all the privacy you might want as well.
If you do decide to venture away from this elegant retreat, you can head to Charleston which is just 40 minutes away. You will find restaurants, fine antique shopping, museums, horse-drawn carriage rides, and the Charleston Tea Plantation. You can take a ferry to Ft. Sumter or visit the famous USS Yorktown at Patriot's Point in Charlestown Harbor. Whatever you decide to do, I can guarantee that it will be a memorable day.
Kiawah Island offers everything you need to make your vacation as carefree and enjoyable as possible with 10 miles of beaches, 30 miles of bicycle paths, and 5 top golf courses. Freshfields Shopping Village offers great shopping, dining, and a grocery store when you want to cook in, sit back, and enjoy the sunset from one of the many porches.
Wanted to let you know what a wonderful vacation we had in Kiawah. This is a great house. We all enjoyed imagining how the remarkable renovation transfixed this property. We came across the house book and were amazed by the photos. The best thing about this house is the ability to provide space for a large group. No one felt crowded and having a bathroom for each bedroom is a real luxury. Kudos to the architect, contractor, designer, and most of all the owner for executing a great vision. We had such a wonderful stay that we are hoping to return and stay for an entire month next year.
We had the best time @ Kiawah and the Gathering Place was perfect for our family. Beautiful home and decor, spacious for multiple families yet very open with a great flow to the main areas of the home. Not on the beach, but close enough to walk...we had no problem with multiple families and 8 small children. We actually loved the location! The owner was very helpful and responded to all our questions promptly despite using a management company.
Even reading all the glowing reviews of "The Gathering Place" couldn't have prepared us for the reality of this wonderful home. It was truly a magical holiday escape for our entire family, from the spacious well-appointed rooms, to the lovely walk to the ocean's edge, to our morning coffee enjoyed while observing the sea birds and ducks in the nearby pond. Had the temperatures been in the 60's, we would have been out on the fabulous deck! My husband particularly enjoyed the sitting room in the master suite. In the words of Douglas McArthur, "I/We shall return"! Too many adventures yet to live.
We really enjoyed our stay at this home on Glen Abbey and its beautiful and peaceful setting. It is an outstanding, large home with excellent amenities and lots of space for everyone. We had eight adults and one infant so the large living space (5 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms) was a welcomed advantage over other places we had stayed previously. The home was very clean and well-maintained.
It took a while to determine how to access all the remarkable features, but the amenities worked very well for our group. There are three HVAC thermostat controls which was great to accommodate the varied needs of the group. The beach is close by and quite convenient. The garage access provided a great storage place to put our rented bikes out of the way of parking. The outside deck and screened porch areas are excellent, but we were not able to use much due to somewhat cooler weather. Great kitchen area for large family meals and game night times. There are TV's conveniently located in almost every room although they are seldom used when our family is at Kiawah.
We enjoy going in quieter post-Labor Day times of year and it certainly is quite a peaceful and relaxing getaway. Thank you for the opportunity to use your home for our family's vacation - it was appreciated by all. We would certainly recommend this property to others.
The pictures cannot do this home justice. It was so much more than we all expected. Our family enjoyed this week together to celebrate my birthday. What a great place for family to gather and also have the space to be alone. All the rooms served as their own private getaway. Enough space for the five families, and a couple small children. Great family times on the island too! Beaching, shopping, Oyster roast, Ghost tours in nearby Charleston, golfing, biking, etc. were enjoyed by all. When coming back to the Gathering Place---the great times did not stop. Cannot say enough about this wonderful home on Kiawah Island. We left a few beach items to add to the other items this home also offers. Only seemed right to offer some small tokens for others to use and enjoy. (beach chairs, toys, cooler on wheels) Thank you for this time in your lovely home. It will definitely be on our list for our next visit.
House was perfect for my family, everyone had their own bedrooms and bathrooms. It was great to have everybody in the same house and not have to go to different locations when kids went to bed.
An easy walk to the ocean.
This was our second time staying at this property and, once again, it was perfect. The home is exquisite and very well equipped. We had our immediate family for the week and other family members in and out during the week. The bedrooms and bed arrangements are wonderful for accommodating larger groups. Obviously we love the property and consider ourselves very lucky that it was available for our vacation!!
