My husband and I purchased a small cottage on Pond Street in Charlestown in 1995. We fell so in love with the location, area, sunsets, views and more but did grow out of our little cottage (with 3 small children growing), so we purchased the property next store! We have two houses on this property (both with the private dock, 3/10's of a mile to the beach). We spend most of our time just taking in the views, the sunsets, kayaking, shellfishing, bird watching, walking the beach and relaxing calling this our 'little piece of paradise'. We have been renting our cottages since 1995 and happen to have a few openings this year as a result of a few of our long time renters having grown children now and evolving summer plans.
Lauren Classey purchased this cottage in 2000
We chose this location because of the beautiful sunsets on Ninigret Pond and its proximity to the ocean as well as surrounding areas to visit. The private dock and entrance to Ninigret Pond couldn't be more convenient and the unobstructed views of the water, boats, wildlife and sunsets are phenomenal. Charlestown is 10 - 15 minutes away from Misquamicut, Narragansett, University of Rhode Island, Point Judith - Block Island Ferry, Wakefield and Wickford (a cute little seaside town) and 20-30 minutes to Stoninington, CT, the Newport Bridge, Foxwoods Casino, TF Green Airport, Mystic Aquarium and Providence. It's just a really great location!
We and our guests enjoy kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, shell fishing, blue crabbing, bass fishing, surf fishing, walking on the beach, biking, beaching, cocktail hour on the deck watching the sunsets, reading, listening to the birds, floating in the pond, sitting in the dock, sitting on the deck, lawn games, local restaurants, Ninigret Park (where there are tons of things going on such as free weekly summer concerts, Frosty Drew Observatory, disc golf, nature trails, festivals and more), hunting for seashells and heart shaped rocks, General Stanton's weekend flea markets, Friday farmers market, all the unique little boutique's in the area as well as tons of golf courses nearby. We also enjoy the proximity to the Block Island Ferry, the fresh seafood either caught in Ninigret Salt pond or getting it from the boats in Galilee.
For the second year in a row we had a marvelous October vacation at this lovely cottage. Lauren and Mike did not treat us as renters, but as welcomed house guests. It is an exquisite location and we loved the deck and its wonderful view and on chilly evenings the fireplace was wonderful. Our hope is to return again in October of 2017.
I know that I'm late in writing this review, however wanted to express how impressed I was in the rental, view of the water and most importantly, the owners. Lauren and Mike made us feel welcome from the time we arrived until we left. I would highly recommend this vacation home to any family looking to get away and enjoy the beautiful area.
Having a large, active family with everyone going in different directions, it has been difficult to bring my family together this year. This small cottage provided a perfect solution that offered great outdoor activities including clamming, crabbing, fishing, kayaking, nearby beach, clam/ice cream shack and most of all, great memories.
I have been coming to this beach house for the last few years with my girlfriends. I want to thank the owners, Mike and Lauren, for sharing their little piece of heaven. I always find the house to be clean and very welcoming like a home away from home. No matter if I stay on or off season it's always an enjoyable experience. The pond is a beautiful gem whether fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the beautiful view and sunsets. I can't wait to return this spring.
I have been going to this cottage for the last ten or so years. I usually go for a weekend in the spring with my girlfriends and then in the summer or early fall with my family. My favorite time of year here is the early fall. The days are warm, the sunsets are amazing and the stars in the night sky are breathtaking. I love sitting out on the spacious deck enjoying my morning coffee, reading a book or just watching the birds. I also love exploring the pond in the kayaks (my five year old nieces favorite activity)! The beach is within walking distance which is a huge plus in the summer. Westerly and Newport are just short drives from the cottage too. I am so glad I found this property and couldn't ask for anything more perfect then the time I spend here.
I have been renting this beach house for the past 3 years and I can't wait to return again this year. The location is perfect, right on the salt pond and an easy short walk to the beach. The front deck is my favorite spot, I like to go get coffee from the bakery (1 mile away) and sit on the deck in the morning and watch the water. The owners take great care of the property and they recently updated the outsdoor shower and the lake is great for kayaking. I really can't say enough about this cottage.
The cottage has amazing views of Ninigret Pond - the birds are beautiful (part of Ninigret is protected), the channel to get to the ocean is right in front of our dock so there is also great boat watching.
