About The Management Company

My name is Lois Houston and I am originally from Philadelphia (The City of Brotherly Love). I have thoroughly enjoyed living in Washington, DC for over 25 years and plan on retiring here. I continue to enjoy the tourist sites and the many interesting and historic places that Washington DC and nearby Virginia and Maryland have to offer. I love bumping into famous people here like Senators on Capitol Hill and even see the President's and Vice President's motorcade racing through the city. Since this property is conveniently located near the METRO, it truly simplifies travel to the numerous sites. For example, the White House, The Smithsonian Museum, The Kennedy Center, The Spy Museum, Mount Vernon and countless other places. My desire is that my guests will experience the joy that I have experienced, while staying in a very comfortable home. My desire is to provide an immaculate home with fine accessories at an affordable price. My ultimate goal is that my guest will consider staying in my home each and every time their visit brings them to the Capital City. Therefore, I warmly welcome the opportunity to receive honest feedback, via e-mailf from every single guest that enter my home. Of course I encourage your reviews also.

The Management Company purchased this apartment in 2008

Why The Management Company chose Washington DC

Washington DC has been my home since 1986 and I do enjoy such a transient city where one has the opportunity to meet so many people of so many diverse backgrounds. I take great pride in living in The Capitol City where one has the opportunity to bump into law makers, senators, diplomats, students from all over the world and many other interesting people. My 20 plus years living in Washington DC has provided me the opportunity to provide a comfortable home in a convenient location at a reasonable price.

What makes this apartment unique

This Home is equipped with the following amenities: Iron and Ironing Board, Shopping Cart, hair dryer, coffee pot, toaster, microwave, few periodicals (compliment of the owner other valued guests), umbrella, fine china and many other items for your convenience. Great residential location for an on-the-move vaction

  • 5 of 5

This residence was fantastic for our family vacation to visit Washington DC. Its proximity to the Metro subway and vibrant residential neighborhood gave our family a taste of what living in DC would be like. The apartment's layout and furnishings are intended to maximize the number of people who could sleep in the apartment. Therefore, the space was great and abundant for our family of four who ate fast breakfasts and left for the sights early each morning, and only returned to shower and crash at night. When entering the apartment, a full-time resident would likely use the first room as a living room rather than a master bedroom. Likewise, the bedroom upstairs has an an adjoining space that a full-time resident would more likely convert to a study or walk-in closet rather than use for bunkbeds. Therefore, while the two sleeping areas, two full bathrooms and a kitchen/laundry area were awesome and abundant for an on-the-move, 4-person family like ours, a 6-person family who intends to spend time watching TV, preparing big meals and generally hanging out at the apartment will find the space too small. If the property owners could increase the heat on the water (we never turned on the cold faucets when taking showers), the space would be perfect.

Excellent Location - Comfy Nights Sleep

  • 5 of 5

The location of this home is perfect. We were a two minute walk from the Columbia Heights Metro rail station. We were also just a blocks walk to a variety of restaurants and grocery stores. We went fully expecting to use the kitchen but honesty there were so many restaurants to choose from we ended up eating our each meal and topping it of with cupcakes from sticky fingers (winner of cupcakes war _yummy) but for those who choose to cook at home the kitchen is clean and well maintained. There is plenty of space in this home. We ended up only using the upstairs two bedrooms and bathrooms for our family of 4. There was plenty of room for 4 more. The beds and pillows were excellent quality and we all slept very well each night. The home gave us the opportunity to experience row house living and the character and charm of this beautiful 1900's home. The property manager was welcoming and ensured our stay was comfortable and all our needs were met. All the staff including housekeeping and maintenance went above and beyond to see that the home was everything we needed for a wonderful vacation stay. I would recommend this stay to anyone wanting to experience true DC living.

Fabulous location

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is in a great spot. Lots of local, wonderful food/restaurants; Target and grocery store close by, and the Metro a 5 minute walk. The Salvadoran Restaurant was awesome, as was the Laotian place and the pizza place. The apartment itself had lots of room and had everything we needed. The bunk beds are great if you have 2 kids of different genders! The owner was very gracious and allowed us early check in and late check out, which made our trip even better. We also received our deposit back quickly. Our only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars was that the WiFi was really not usable, and the noise from the apartment above. It was particularly ironic when there were signs all over the entry lobby and our unit telling us to be quiet--and we tried very hard--when the upstairs frequently sounded like a herd of elephants and we could hear almost entire conversations at times. Given the rental agreement threatens loss of deposit if you are too loud, we felt a bit paranoid, having two normally noisy, big kids. But we would totally stay here again.

Very Nice Apt!

  • 4 of 5

The description per the app was accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities. The Apt was clean and well-maintained. I would recommend this property to your friends or relatives traveling in the DC area. My Family and I loved the fact that it was in close proximity to a subway station, that made the site seeing easier.

Great location - near Metro, Target, grocery store, and restaurants

  • 4 of 5

My family of four (2 adults and 2 teens) drove up to DC during Christmas and spent a week here. The home fit our needs but there were some issues that would keep us from coming back. The layout of the rental is "different". Like previous reviews state it seems that a single family home was turned into 2 separate rentals. You enter the rental property through the bedroom that has the king size bed and small couch. From there you enter a small hallway that has a bathroom and leads to the kitchen. The kitchen was adequate for the 4 of us but a larger family might find it a tight squeeze. There are stairs (steep and narrow) in the kitchen that go up to the second floor bathroom and bedroom that has a full size bed and a partition that separates it from the bunk beds. The unusual part is at the other end of the hallway there is a door that leads to the other rental apartment. That made my kids feel a little uncomfortable while sleeping upstairs. They could hear what was going on in that rental if they had the bedroom door open or were in the bathroom. My husband I slept downstairs in the king bed where unfortunately you can hear every sound from the upstairs rental and when someone is coming or going from duplex since the bed is up against the entry door into the rental. The bedroom door is just a interior door and does not create a sound barrier. There were 5 people renting the upstairs unit and they had a dog. We could hear them several times throughout the night (11pm, 3am, 6am) taking the dog out and going up and down the stairs. We could also hear every time someone went to the bathroom, got up for a drink of water, had their alarm go off, or answered their cell phone. Also lots of creaking floors above our head and dog barking. We understand it's an old home so we dealt with the noise but this alone would keep us from renting again. We also had the same issues with the washer/dryer(not drying). Keep in mind that there are no closets available to use or gathering area (we all piled on the bed to watch tv together). What this rental does offer is an awesome location that is less than a 10min walk to the metro, Target, Giant grocery, and lots of restaurants. Off street parking is available with a permit ($20), the first 2 nights we could not find parking and used the lot in Target and then moved our car when space became available. We used the metro to go everywhere. Rental was clean, we felt safe and enjoyed having the kitchen to cook some meals

Cozy and Convenient

  • 4 of 5

I would recommend this property. It is in a nice area of DC, and close to the Metro. The building is 110 years old, and there are issues that come with a residence of that vintage. As long as you are flexible enough to deal with them, this place is very comfortable. We were there during a cold spell, and the heat wasn't keeping up -- but once the thermostat was adjusted (maintenance person had to do that), the place was very comfortable. Also, there were space heaters in the closets that could be used. As others have mentioned, the floor plan is unusual for an apartment, as the building was most likely was a single family home and has been divided up into a number of apartments. I didn't mind that the door to the place opened on to my bedroom -- it is that way in a hotel too! The washing machine is one of those that serves as a dryer too. I have found that this type of machine never actually dries the clothing, and that was true here as well. After 4 1/2 hours of drying, we gave up and draped the clothing over the heat registers. The photographs are pretty accurate. The "den" with the bunk beds is really just the end of the upstairs bedroom -- where most people might put a sofa or chairs to look out the window. We were able to get around and see everything in DC by taking the Metro. Meanwhile there are many restaurants nearby -- most of them locally owned. We enjoyed a restaurant called The Heights right near the Metro (excellent trout!) We also enjoyed Red Rock Pizza and Room 11(purple carrot soup and curried cauliflower) -- only a block away.
