La Petite Maison is the perfect retreat for any couple or individual looking for a charming residence to return to after sightseeing and shopping in the bustling village of Mendocino which is famous for its beautiful forests, beaches, rivers, state parks, botanical gardens, and vineyards.
We had a nice two day visit to La Petite Maison. The setting is beautiful and the owners are more than accommodating. Mary met us on our arrival. The appointments in the unit are very nice and she couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely touches throughout including providing comfy bathrooms and food items for breakfast. Very restful visit.
Where do we begin. We spent 6 evenings at La Petite Maison and honestly wish we could've stayed longer. Mary was there to greet us upon our arrival. Everything was in order and a welcome change from our hot valley weather. We became fast friends with Mary & Peter, what great hosts they are. The property is even more beautiful than the pictures. A purely delightful getaway. We have not felt so relaxed in quite some time. The cabin is perfect for two, you almost feel like you are in two different cabins as the upstairs is quite different. We loved the decor and the skylights above the bed (to us) were very welcoming. We were able to enjoy the stars a few nights that we were there and woke up bright & early, but don't fret, if you want to sleep in, they have provided eye masks for the guests. Mary & Peter have thought of everything. The property is tucked away surrounded by redwoods and Mary's beautiful garden. There's a pond in front of the cottage where Prince Kermit lives and lots of tiki torches that enhance the outdoor atmosphere. Fortunately for us, we were able to enjoy the wood stove every evening we were there. We prepared a lot of our own meals at the cottage, enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, put a puzzle together and again, just relaxed. Mendocino village is so close, we were able to visit the town, Ft. Bragg, Botanical Gardens, Point Cabrillo Light House, and the ocean all within minutes, but honestly our favorite was being at the cottage. We've stayed at a lot of VRBO homes, but will definitely make it back to La Petite Maison. Date of stay: Jun 23-28th, 2016. Gina & Gary
In every way an outstanding place to stay when visiting Mendocino...with Mary's warm welcome, the beautiful setting, the cozy fireplace, and the charming decor, this was just the perfect place to stay to enjoy the North Coast. Everything provided was wonderful...welcome snacks, a lending library, tiki torches for the garden...plus many, many decorating details which Martha Stewart would envy were she to visit. Everything is thoughtfully outfitted in the kitchen as well so that you can make simple meals to enjoy the beautiful setting at leisure. We wish would could have stayed longer and certainly look forward to returning when we come back to Mendocino. Honestly we were concerned that the property is a little out of town, but it turned out that it was just perfect...close enough to drive in for the afternoon to explore, but a wonderful peaceful retreat to be savored in the mornings and evenings.
My spouse and I came to La Petite Maison for our honeymoon in July 2014. The five acre property is serene and peaceful. The cottage is so lovingly decorated and the perfect size for a couple. The second floor with the bedroom has high ceilings, skylights, and is very spacious. We were able to see the annual Perseid meteor shower laying in our bed and looking above through the skylights.
There are majestic redwoods in the backyard. During the past 13 years we have stayed in other hotels as well as bed and breakfast establishments in Mendocino and La Petite Maison is our favorite. We came again in 2015 and this year for my birthday. We think the La Petite Maison is the best value in Mendocino.
My husband and I stayed at La Petite Maison in March for several days. We are retired, we travel a lot and we rarely go back to the same place twice. However, this PERFECT cottage in wonderful Mendocino has become the exception! (It is truly exceptional!!) This was actually our seventh stay in the cottage. Between our other travels,
we try to get back here twice a year to recharge and restore our spirits. Every great comment that you have read in the other reviews is right. This cottage is utterly delightful, the setting is magical, the entire area is amazing, such much to do right nearby and the hosts are beyond compare!!! Come here to pamper yourself. Be as busy or as lazy as you like, no matter - it will be heavenly!
My husband and I wanted to experience the Northern California coast. We picked Mendocino County and a charming 2-story cottage nestled in the tall Redwoods just outside the Mendocino Village. We have been to many VRBO's over the years but have never been treated so well. Mary contacted us personally to introduce herself and to help prepare us for our visit, i.e., alternative ways to travel from San Francisco; what the cottage offers (which is everything), suggestions based on our travel plans. She had "breakfast goodies" and a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. Mary and charming Peter live on the far side of the 5-acre site and are there for any questions or immediate needs, only if necessary. Come see and experience the area and "home away from home."
